That's still stupid as hell. Also, you should have experienced some kind of economic cataclysm considering that Japan would have to cut out all of the nice things that they are spending on in order to facilitate massive military spending. My military spending is supposedly a little over $1 trillion, so good luck spending around $1-2 tril and slashing everything else.

 

Not to mention that your soldiers aren't very trained and aren't really competitive with other militaries whatsoever.

Well unlike the United States, I'm not involved in two wars in the Middle East, nor am I spending billions on wasteful and unnecessary programs that probaly won't work. Also noting again that Japan does not have a terribly crappy military. It is within the top 10 most powerful militaries, up there with the United States and most western European countries. It's much cheaper to fund a defensive army (machine gunes and artillery don't cost that much) than to fund an offensive army fighting a never ending war. Besides, I've checked it over with Archi's spreadsheet and found that I can easily afford it, with a twenty billion surplus (this is after the spending, so I really actually don't need the money). Why would I have to spend 1-2 trillion?

As for the military, these punishments are necessary in order to maintain discipline before the eyes of the Enemy. They have always been a reality of the US military throughout its history, and people are educated about the military code of law before they sign up for the military. Only a fool would commit these crimes. Also, psychological evaluations are conducted before hearings that will likely involve an execution afterward in order to weed out the people that are suffering from a mental ailment. Those who are found to not be mentally competent are of course spared.

 

However, if a person starts going berserk and starts to shoot up their fellow men, then they will be shot on the spot. There's really nothing you can do in that situation but to put them down since they are only an endangerment to both themselves and their comrades.
