Sexting: Your Views?

I was watching the news the other night and I saw that a student got expelled from school for sexting. I was just thinking, what is TIF's views on sexting?

I don't receive picture messages on my phone. Most of the people I know have sent or received pictures of their or another's junk. I don't really have a problem with it. Not exactly the smartest thing, since a lot of people will end up seeing your junk (which is generally not impressive), but I don't care.

I aim more for live shows anyways.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Well I would guess we wouldn't allow it

But really...

Text, ok it is pretty offensive to my morals, but words are words, you can read them in perfectly reasonable books....Live and let live.

Pictures are more complicated and should not be entered into as lightly....but its not like we can stop it now...We have given people camaras and they are gonna use them.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I personally think sending pictures of your junk to others is kinda weird, but it really shouldn't get someone expelled.

It's just a freaking picture. If that sets somebody up, go tell all those people that post porn/hentai on the internet. *coughdeviantart/youtubecough*

*sigh* People and their hormones these days.

I don't see anything wrong with it, except the time and place. Not really the best place to be checking your porno messages, in the middle of class.

That's a pretty good point, it's really the same as that, only it's someone you know. Plus, there's a good chance that two people in a relationship will end up getting closer than pictures. ;)

I dunno, its more a novelty. You get a girl to send you her nudes, you show to your friends and your friends show you the ones they got.

This. I've seen the jubblies of girls I don't even know because my friends show me them. They don't send them to anyone else, but it's still the same idea.

I also love how everyone so far has used "junk" instead of any other term for genitalia.

Firstly I only hear of it with people that aren't legal. That is a huge problem. Secondly what's the point in receiving nude shots during class or elsewhere? I don't understand it at all.

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

Sex is normal it isn't anything new. The way we express ourselves with one another is just evolving along with us, so for me I don't personally have a problem with people sexting as long as they aren't engaging in an illegal activity.

I've done it, the first time I was pretty much pressured into it, and since I've gotten a lot more comfortable with my body. Honestly I think nudity is way too taboo and sure a lot of underage people do it but I personally think it's because of the thrill of disobeying the 'rules' or because of the bit of exhibitionist in each of us.

I regret doing it, but probably not as much as I should. The only thing I'm worried about is if the pics get out, but I'm not on bad terms with anyone who's seen them (as of right now...) so I'm currently not too worried.

Really people put too much of an emphasis on how BAD it is. Because you say it's BAD that makes teens WANT to do it....forbidden fruit theory in action right there. And there's a lot of taboo surrounding sex, nudity, and sexuality in general, and that makes it mystic and it sparks curiosity. Honestly I think it's natural...and it's just another use of the technology at hand.

I know something about nothing, which is far better than knowing nothing about something.

My opinion is that if you're 18 and hot you should send them to me.

And out of chicks I know, the ones who are most likely to have a bitter breakup are the ones sexting.

Basically, its fine, but eventually we all know it will end up on the internet. Everything ends up on the internet.

Is this student also being charged for child pornography? Plenty of cases out there, even some convictions, where a student has done it and been hit with child porn charges...

I mean.. if you want to do it.. sure.. do it. Just realize there is a good chance that the phone owner is probably not going to be the only one who sees the image(s). And if you're legally a minor.. have to watch out for that child pornography charge if it goes south and the police find out about it, etc.

Edit: Just for the record, never used my phone for .. graphic images, just my digital camera. And I willingly picture swap with other like-minded adults. Plenty of us are relatively good friends and know each other well. And when it comes to dealing with people you don't know.. errr.. be cautious... you're dealing with digital media.. as soon as you give it to someone else, you can't control where it ends up.

Eh, the media always over-dramatises things, and gets the parents all worried. Example: video games. They take a few VERY EXTREME scenarios and create a big fuss about it.

Fourtunately I don't have a cell phone so my parents don't need to have to contantly remind me of the dangers of sexting.

But if you do do it, then I guess you should be careful, but i don't think it' s bad or anything.

It's still really strange to hear about all of this and wondering what is up with middle/high schools now. I mean sure, cell phones wern't as big as they are now back then but even in high school I don't remember people just randomly sending others nude images.

Still if you're underage I say keep that [cabbage] private. Texting it to someone would be fine if they were the only ones to see it, but lets be real. The second that kid gets a picture of some naked chick it is going to get passed around everywhere. Needless to say that will get illegal.

I'm not sure about punishments for it though, just too many variables to put a blanket judgement over on all of them though.

Oh and "sexting" is still the most [developmentally delayed]ed media term I've ever heard.

Ok, I'm bringing this up again.

If people think sexting is this bad then I don't know why sites like YouTube allow porn and hentai/furry fanart to be posted and displayed... Heck, I don't even know why things like that are on teh interwebz in the first place if people think it's that bad.

It's very normal to do things like that. Sex is nature, and with it comes situations like this. Let it be, folks. ;)

Youtube doesn't allow porn (not nudity anyway) sometimes there is some for a little while, but it eventually gets removed.

Hentai is a hell of a lot different. We're still talking about child porn here, I just really think that anyone under 18 should be sending out images that will be seen by everyone. It's totally fine to have sex, I don't care. However you're just causing a lot of trouble by sending nude pictures around of underage girls/boys.

And youtube doesn't let porn be posted, what are you going on about?
