Best bass player?

Featured Replies

who do you think is the best bass player? honestly no one gives these guys the credit they deserve, Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, Chris Squire, they are all huge influences on my music and they are crazy good.

So who do you like most? what do you like about him? cause he's funky, smooth, or just really really fast? haha

Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy is my favourite. I don't care if he was the best technical player or whatever, he just looked badass playing it.

Robert Trujillo, seeing him do solos live is amazing.

On that note, Cliff Burton, especially during Orion.

Yup.

He was excellent in Suicidal Tendencies.

My favorite bassist would probably be Flea because he's funky.

Victor Wooten and John Myung.

I wouldn't really consider Geddy Lee underrated.

Matt Freeman of Rancid is pretty good.

All of these are really...fast players haha they all remind me of steve vai, all flash and no style >.< but it's something I could never do I know that haha

KoRn, Red-Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine all have incredible bass players. As for their names, only Flea's comes to mind. But out of them, I'd probably asy Tool is my favorite bass. The Pot <3 [amazing bass song]

Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse is an amazing bassist, but not for his work with CC. His work in Blotted Science is excellent.

Doug Keyser from Watchtower is pretty good, as is Alex Webster who was mentioned earlier.

Also, Lars Norberg of Spiral Architect would deserve a mention since he plays on a fretless bass, and pretty well at that. Maybe a little too technical for his own good though.

He might be the best, but it doesn't sound all that great. I'll take any decent funk player over that.

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Playing super fast gets boring after a while. It sounds too "regular guitar-like". Honestly I made it through ~2 minutes of each of the posted videos before I got bored. Yesterday I watched a 15 minute funk improv and it seemed to go by so quickly.

Same thing with any Yngwie Malmsteen-esque solos to me, regardless of whether it's bass or guitar.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who felt that way haha They two completely different instruments and should be played differently >.>

But only one or two Les Claypool mentions? really? He's so....weird and awesome haha I love it.

How bout some less technical or funky and some simple guys with some style? One of my favorite bass lines is Death Cab's I Will Possess Your Heart, simple but awesome haha

Victor Wooten plays some great stuff, but I've always been a fan of John Entwistle the bassist from The Who, he did some amazing solo's and was a very talented songwriter/improviser.

RIP Michaelangelopolous

Yes.

He was never the showman that Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey, and Pete Townshend were, but he was just as talented.
