I was originally going to post my strong views against mature people but I'd rather not attract their oppressive gaze.

I don't think it's about "not being allowed to", but rather not finding it funny, etc. The reason there are so many jokes about sex, is that most young people (and then some adults aswell) find it somewhat of an embarrasing thing to talk about, so jokes cover for it.

A mature person is less likely to laugh about it, because they'd understand it better. But, I think that, today, laughing/not laughing at sex jokes is no longer a sign of maturity/immaturity, because it kinda grown into sociey. Most adults I know would laugh at & tell sex jokes, including my own two parents.

Being able to smile when it's time to smile and to cry when it's time to cry, so to speak.

Also, in my very humble opinion, mature people also tend to ponder more about things that don't influence them directly, which will add to the way the person matures, if that makes any sense at all...

For the record, maturity =/= wisdom/intelligence. I know plenty of mature people that are downright idiots, and some geniuses that don't know how to control their behavior very well.

I'd probably be considered pretty immature by most of you guys. Granted, when something is happening that isn't right I do tend to be the one that says "No but srsly guise", but really I feel like I have a lot more fun when I'm acting immature, though not in the ways most people would think. I'm not the kind of immature that laughs at dead baby jokes and who doesn't know any jokes that don't contain the word "poop". I'm the kind of immature that will play a childrens game without embarrassment.

Nvm, I was mainly talking about people claiming to be mature rather than mature people.

I don't think it's bad to be mature or immature, although people often make out that immaturity is a bad thing. Too much of it, maybe, but being childish is fine. You shouldn't be too mature either, just be happy and get on with life.

 

Maybe it's people who try to be mature to look down on others that are the real immature ones.

I think its a little of both Romy's and Pasta's view. But you don't need to be serious at all to be mature, I think that the seriousness is a side effect of the maturity in a sense, but seriousness is not a requirement.

I think I disagree here. Politeness and kindness are important social skills, and if a person isn't nice (aka lacking them) that shows immaturity in my opinion.

Or simply a differing world view -- and one's opinions on the world does not make them mature, or immature. More so simply how they act on those opinions.

Maturity doesn't mean social skills though. But I know what you're going for. But when I say nice, I mean actually going the further mile in doing good. Repsect covers the basics of it: giving thanks, holding a door, don't [bleep] them over, etc. Nice is more like volunteering, helping someone which will take a lot of your time, etc.

As do I. I don't really see the point in coming off as over-mature when I'm still pretty young - I stopped being obsessed with making myself look "mature" a while ago, because it didn't seem or feel right.

Immaturity is a part of being mature, in a sense. You're mature in my book if you can handle matters respectfully.
