This 55th annual ESC was held in Oslo, Norway. The semi-finals for the contest were held on 25th May and 27th May, and the final itself took place on 29th May.

I normally watch it, but this year my niece's confirmation is the same day. Last year we had a big party with champagne and caviar (both as fake as the whole shebang :D ) and had a great night. And of course we had to hang the flag out when the Norwegian victory was certain. Strangely enough the rest of the evening is slightly hazy. ;)

 

Edit: And i forgot. Norway's song this year is snooze-o-rama. I sooo hoped the Dimmu Borgir song was going to win nationals, but I think they came 3rd or so. Not a big fan, but atleast it would be entertaining to watch

I usually watch it for the entertainment rather than singing talent, but we've got relatives over that weekend so I guess I'll have to miss it. I don't normally listen to any of the songs before the contest but I decided to listen to the UK's and it's appalling, sounds like it has come straight out of a Disney film :wall:

Kind of sounds the same as 2006's contest for me, minus the hazy part and the flag part. And the caviar. But the mood was the same. :P

 

And of course I do have to post my opinion too. My hopes for our lovely girl duo Kuunkuiskaajat are quite high — their song should stand out of the crowd, at least. Reaching the finals would be an awesome achievement already, no matter how they fare in the finals. ;)

From the first thirteen songs I have heard from the first semi-final, my favourite list would be Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Slovakia. :)

While in the studio in early 2000 working on their third album, Nightwish was accepted in the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Sleepwalker”. Despite winning the public vote, Nightwish eventually finished in second place, with the jury choosing local gospel singer Nina Åström to represent Finland.[11]

Ended up on place 18 out of 24. <_<

Usually a reject from a Tv talent show. Why oh why didn't we use Justin Hawkins (if that's his name) from the darkness the other year? Instead we use the same old singers doing pop type ballads which are rubbish. If people in your own country hate the music, how do they expect to win over foreign people.

 

Also Andrew Loyd Webber is killing this country single handedly.

I think the whole scoring thing is biased; no real point in taking it seriously. Would be interesting if proper musicians did it though, I'm sure most people know a few European countries that are home to legendary bands. But no, they normally choose boring/painful songs. Who actually decides what songs go through anyway?

As in voting for neighbour countries and such? Meh, I haven't seen it as that big of a problem. I know we haven't gotten huge amounts of points from our neighbors, at least.. (points at the huge pile of last places)

Somehow when I read the title of the thread, I simultaneously thought 'Oh God, not again.' and 'Sweet, it's on again!'. I have a love-hate relationship with the contest, but there's really nothing like it for getting an idea of what other countries think of your country. It would be nice if we actually tried to win it though by getting an actually good singer/group on there.

Something that certainly has become more common year by year, which I, at least, can't help noticing and which makes me extremely dissappointed is how Eurovision is becoming, well, EuroVISION. It's becoming less about the music nowadays, but instead more about how much revealing clothing the people on the stage wear. From tight clothes to performing topless, some artists just keep increasing the amount of bare skin in their acts just to fish in more points. And these countries always keep ranking higher and higher on the points charts. This is not how it should work. :(

 

Kudos to every country who still competes by the original means and concentrates mainly on the music and only then on the looks instead of the other way around. :thumbup:

 

REMINDER: ESC 2010's first semi-final round airs on May 25th, 20:00 GMT. Yours truly is keeping fingers crossed, at least! ;)

I personally am pretty disappointed with the results. Out of my eight-or-so favourite songs only a mere three made it through to the finals, not including the Finnish entry. :(

Belarus has a beautiful song indeed. It's one of the few favourite countries of mine that are in the finals. :)

Germany was good, but top-5 imo. Not first.

Belgium should have been top-3. But not the first either.

France was my favorite.

Yet, I'm glad it didn't score too high. It has a catchy rythm, but isn't really a song for Eurosong.

 

And Spain was hilarious.

To be honest, I don't really like Germany's song and I didn't like the way she sang either. It sure didn't deserve to win with such a landslide victory.
