I find in math that when I'm stuck on something, I ask myself what specifically I'm stuck on. Is your algebra/trig rusty, or are you having trouble with the new concepts? If it's the former, work on that instead of trying to wrap your head around why u-substitutions work. If you're stuck conceptually on the new material and you have your prerequisites down, THEN watch the kahn academy videos on whatever you're stuck on. They're called prerequisites for a reason. If you don't know how to interpret graphs, don't bother trying to understand the definition of the derivative yet. I'm not trying to put you down. You either placed out of pre-calc/trig or passed it. Myself and almost everyone I've talked to this about agrees that pre-calc is harder than calc 1. If you could do that, you can definitely do this. Oh, also, you're probably going to have to take calc 2 at some point if you have to take calc 1, and what I said about prerequisites goes doubly for that. Know what you're supposed to know and don't trick yourself into thinking you know more than you do.

Luckily calc 1 is all I need. I've been studying for a while now, and I can follow along while someone explains what to do but as soon as I try a practice midterm on my own I have no clue where to even start.

I'm taking math now in college for the first time since my junior year of high school (not counting ap stats). For a bachelor of science in psychology at my school, you need to complete precalc and calc I. I probably could have placed into calc I, but I wanted to have a basis for math knowledge before I went into calculus having zero conceptual knowledge of anything, so I took precalc.

It was probably a mistake. Precalc is easily the most difficult course I've taken here thus far. It's manageable, but the class moves at a ridiculously fast pace and the specific teacher I have is notorious for assuming we have a lot of prior knowledge of stuff that most of us don't. Everyone I've talked to says precalc is way harder than regular calc. I took a midterm today that left me feeling mentally violated.

It's just really frustrating because this "kind" of math (read: not statistics) is more or less completely irrelevant to any field of psychology. But I just don't want a BA, so here I am. Thank [bleep]ing god my roommate is an EE major who likes helping me.

I never struggled in a math class more than I struggled in pre-calc. I ended up with a B because most of the grade was from homework, but I failed every single quiz that year. I got through calculus without a problem, but seriously [bleep] pre-calc.

Unit Circle. Like... It is so useful, but that class was essentially worthless busywork.

I think the problem is that I don't understand circles

When I took precalc in high school, I was unable to get into the honors class, so I had to take the regular version.

I have never taken an easier math class. Every day in that class, I would sleep for 45-60 minutes, until they gave out homework, and then do the homework in five minutes and go back to sleep. It was awesome, but I really should have taken honors.

My skin is finally getting soft
I'll scrub until the damn thing comes off

Lol did anyone notice/care that you were asleep during most of class?

No. I got a 100 in the class and knew more than any of the other students, so it's not like they could argue it was hurting my academics. I sat in the back corner, too, so it was not distracting or anything. I'm not sure the teacher really noticed.

You realize that anything beyond high school level stats requires clac, right? http://www.cengage.com/resource_uploads/downloads/1439049254_242719.pdf

Other than the one calc class I'll have to eventually take, the only other math I'll need is a couple of stats classes (which are technically psych classes themselves) that I'm quite certain don't involve us using calculus. They're still supposed to be quite difficult though.

I took my school's 300 level stats course, and we really didn't use any calculus. Sure, it makes the problems a lot easier if you know basic integration, but it isn't necessary. I can't speak for your psych stats classes though.

Well I'm superior to you because I've taken several entry-level calculus courses.

What I meant to say is that upper-level stats courses are heavily-influenced by calc. I've never taken a statistics class and I'll probably never take more than one in my life, so you know what I'm saying is true.

You don't need to take any calculus courses in college unless you're in the school of business or engineering.

Or Physics. Or Chemistry.  Or any science really...

Thats actually wrong. Anything computer bases needs calculus too. Heck my study even requires basic calculus knowledge and I study Archaeology.

I had to take calc as an Environmental Science major.

[bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp

So today I made a mistake worthy of the "platinum stupidity" title, as my friend once described a certain decision...realized I had blood ethereal hands in my bank instead of infinity ethereal boots.  At least I didn't waste even more money on keys, but now it makes sense why they weren't even showing up on Treasure Hunter.
