Well, I'm just using elemental magick as the stepping stone to learn greater magicks (aka the average sorcerer must master elements to move on). As this is freeform you don't have to go through that process. So if you want to use a rune (stone?) magick thats up to you to decide its power. But nothing is capable of being immune to some sort of weakness. So that if you choose to be evil, you can't just slaughter the good RP'ers. But it's your choice for how 'powerful' it is.

My idea is the basic runes are weak(ish) but there are stronger ones. Essentially the rune is an symbol imbueded with some magical strength (a symbol of healing would heal the recipient when activated etc. etc.) However with some skill you could weave runes together to create a whole far greater than the sum of it's parts (like what I did to talk to another member of my order)

Thank you for adressing the dragon sue issue. It's just that dragons, along with vampires and werewolves, always end up being mary sues.

My character is pretty much an immortal idiot. He's also more or less a pacifist. Although he does have freakish agility, he isn't possessed of any real strength. I mean, he can throw things with some force, but that's about it.

So, back to actually RPing.

 

As Kemios continues trudging through the swamp, he notices the water being to become clearer, showing that, unsurprisingly, everything that would've been alive underwater is dead and decomposed, and that he's just walking on a shallow lakebed. He continues on, feeling a bit sick, but not sick enough to stop.

Yeah, I rather despise mary sues. Took an online quiz for some of my previous RP characters.. None were mary sues except for one lol. A few had mary sue tendencies, but wasn't a serious issue if being used as RP characters. Lately my characters have been "You have room to spice up the character with extra w/e" Cuz i was getting really low scores (lower=non mary sue), so trying to make Kyla my 'spiced up' character. lol. My opinion on anything that exists, if its not the "Big Bad Guy" and is near invincible its not worth involving into the story.

(Etched in stone or drawn in paper or any number of things [a master of them is able to use certain abilities with hand signs and nothing more])

What the heck is a mary sue?

 

Kemios continues walking through the clear-watered swamp, when he sees a black sphere at the bottom of the swamp. As he kicks it to find out what it is, a small snout pops out of it and bites off one of his toes. After a rather large spout of cursing, combines with grabbing his toe and hopping around in circles, he hits the sphere with his club, to reveal a tiny baby serpent, which promptly flies out of the water and latches onto his face.

A character who is perfect in almost every way, is a kind, loving and gentle person, could punch out cthulhu, and has an IQ of 300 at the same time. Or only has some minor flaw which actually serves to add to the perfectness as they try to overcome it (And do so easily. All the time.)

Oh. Well, I won't have an issue with that... given that my current character is a mildly mage-resistant, rather muscular idiot drunkard.

Jen had heard tales of dragons from people all over the barren steppes of her northern homes. Occasionally a lone dragon would fly over her village during days of calm and bellow a fearsome yet proud roar, for everyone to hear.

The gift had been paltry compared to the effort it took to track down the child, for she was only a teenager then, but now they had come in handy.

you can dodge them. i jsut dont want the dragons hunted. and ross, i like dragons.

I realise, and am trying to get you to understand that it adds to the roleplay potential if something you like is taken away. You shouldn't just instantly dismiss the possibility because "BAWW MY CHARACTER WILL BE SAD".

 

RP isn't about creating a world where nobody is ever hurt and everything is perfect.

You don't want dragons being hunted, confront Retech's character and try to stop her. Don't pull some "I UNVEIL OVER 9000 TREES OF DEATH THAT PWN YOUR FACE OFF" thing.

Once again, it might give you a good opportunity to roleplay if you see something you like taken away. Use that opportunity.

Rashid's eyes snap open quickly. As he stretches his limbs and generally mutters to himself he hears the roar of a dragon. At that sound he thinks back to his home in the desert that was ravaged by beasts not unlike the dragons of this continent and as he remembered the carnage his eyes flashed in murderous rage. Rising swiftly to his feet he summoned the aura of light around his hand again and used it to cut a shield out of stone. Grunting with the effort he lugged the stone into the center of the circle and enchanted it many times with runes to protect him from the dragons various breath weapons and errant crossbow bolts. Then shield and sword in hand he headed back into the forest to find him some dragons to kill his eyes literally blazing with rage by that time.

Kemios ripped the small creature off his face, only to see its parents flying towards him, with what he thought was a gleam of anger in their eyes. He quickly muttered some profanity, and released the baby, which promptly curled around his arm, trying to constrict it to death.

As Jen headed into the forest atop the various trees, she discovered a startling happening. The trees...shot...crossbow...bolts. Thankfully she was literally on the trees themselves and was out of range of the bolts, but it made her wonder what kind of forest she was in. Despite this, she pressed on, where she continued onward. Soon after, she saw a strange man with flaming eyes walking below her. Jen was incredibly curious, and followed quickly and quietly behind him. Unfortunately, the branches on the trees in the forest were not as sturdy as the occasional conifer in the North, and due to her misjudgement, a branch fell towards the fiery tempered man.
