fallout
An interesting 3.5 hour long Japanese movie about kamikaze attacks - Father of the Kamikazehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLMyMeoAdqs Generation Kill is a really great mini TV series made by same people who made The Wire and is about invasion of Iraq. One of the best things I have seen or watched.
Brodly
I really do not recommend Apocalypse Now, it was on TV and I went to watch because of all the fame it has.Was really boring and barely any action, only watch if you like 3 hours of boating over a river. Sinkhan
The Pacific wasn't as good as BoB, I haven't even watched the final episode yet Totally agree with this one. BoB had much stronger characterization and the story telling seemed to be a lot more coherent. There were also quite a few more intense combat scenes. Something to fill my sig with until I find a replacement. Also check out my blug
Hobgoblinpie
It's not a movie, but Band of Brothers, if you can get hold of the whole season, is amazing. POH Agility Course, Please Support!
Michael
You should try Generation Kill, it's a miniseries set in the Iraq invasion.
das
It's not a movie, but Band of Brothers, if you can get hold of the whole season, is amazing. I bought this like at $60 new on DVD, and don't regret it. You can pick it up for about $40 new on SD, $60 on Blu, or $20-30ish used "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. How2PK
Nobi (Fires on the Plain), an underseen Kon Ichikawa classic that truely shows the horros of war. No glorification here. It got released in America through Criterion. You could also check out the war movies by the Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda. Another interesting movie (although post-war) is Germany anno zero, by Rosselini. And while you're at it check out Rome, Open city as well. Something more recent is Malick's The Thin Red Line or Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder. If you're interested in a good holocaust documentary check out Shoah (it's almost 10 hours long, so take a few days for it). [edit] I forgot to mention Sam Fuller's The Steel Helmet and the The Big Red One and Peckinpah's Cross of Iron. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
Millard
I second Come and See, watching it is an extremely intense experience. Thin Red Line is great, albeit long. Also Zulu, glorious film.
Range_This11
I really do not recommend Apocalypse Now, it was on TV and I went to watch because of all the fame it has.Was really boring and barely any action, only watch if you like 3 hours of boating over a river. It's not supposed to be about action and fighting. It's about the intense mental strain that Vietnam put on soldiers and how completely [bleep]ed up a soldier can become when put in a hellhole like Vietnam. obfuscator
Lol Tropic Thunder. If you like comedic war movies, go crazy...otherwise...stay away :P And if you have to chose between pearl harbour or TORA TORA TORA, go for the latter. It's much more realistic and far less glamourized. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti

It just goes to show how brutal it really got during the war. Yet, there are holocaust survivors who have seen films like The Pianist and Schindler's List who shrug them off and vehemently express that nothing could ever give even a close sample of what it was truly like.
