Is there a bit of an advantage to posting in a wrong forum section?

Featured Replies

Think about it. Say:

You post a suggestion in General Discussion. A friendly mod moves it to the appropriate "Runescape Suggestions" section. Now people will see your thread whether it's in the Runescape Suggestions section or the General Discussion section. Sure, in General Discussion there will be a big Moved marker in front of the thread but that doesn't mean it's not there and people won't click it. In fact the Moved market might draw some attention to people scanning through posts.

In the end, more people will probably look at your thread than if you just posted it in the "Runescape Suggestions" section.

Or am I missing something?

So you're an attention freak?

Those who look at it and aren't looking for a suggestion won't be worthwhile viewers anyways: why would you care that they look at your post?

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I say there is.

Hell General is the only forum I ever look at, and ever have looked at...

yes it would get more activity on that thread in my opinion technicaly its doubled in "advertisement" if thats the right word (and spelling) there fore making it more in use

Well, if you think about it, and really, really want people to look at your thread you should...

Post it on general discussion, ''accidentally'' post it 5 times due to lag, have some racist comments in the description, use terrible grammar, say that the CLS is the best weapon for everything, say that dungeoneering is the best skill out there, say that free players deserve a lot more updates, suck up to MMG and say that doing things efficiently is the way to go.(yes, i know i could have gone on forever)

Just a tip :)

Very few people look in RS suggestions, or questionnaire etc. compared to GD. So I'd post something which could be considered a "question" in GD unless it was something quite trivial. (When was the last time yuo got a birdnest wcing)

And ^lol.

(MMG is a terrible CEO IMHO BTW) :D

I like that your first responce is a personal attack

If you ask me THIS is what is wrong with the Tip.it community

However it does make sense, people that go and ask a question here gets tons more responses then people who post on the help and advice forums from the getgo.

Well it wasn't an personal attack at you, more about what I think about people who do so (or even think about doing so).

But anyways, don't you think there is a reason forums are divided? - It's so that people who can't be bothered to answer your questions/comment on your suggestions/read your newest achievements don't have to read them! If I read your achievements you would simply be wasting my time, I wouldn't reply and you'll get nothing for it? (Well and if views is what you care about, you ARE an attention freak by definition of the word)

Keep in mind that if we notice that you are intentionally posting in the wrong forum repeatedly so your thread will gain more traffic, we can take measures against that by removing your post from public view all together, locking your thread instead of moving it, sending you a formal warning, etc. :P We have separate forums for a reason and in order to keep things organized an on-topic, we need all our users to respect that :)

So purposely posting in the wrong forum is not something I would recommend :P

The only reason I sometimes wander into certain sections of the forums is due to moved posts. So I'd say it does influence my browsing.

So this means we have to be subtle about it? :-k

Heh, kidding.

It is useful if you want views/attention but that's about it. I do click on moved threads a lot for some reason.

still can anyone answer me, why would you care for some random person to view what you've written?

-I rather have 2 people view it who actually reply, than a 1000 who don't

I mostly just look at GD, H&A, and Rate This! I don't think I've ever been drawn away from GD by a misplaced thread, because most of the time the misplaced thread goes something like "hi tipit people this is my first post! :)))"

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

I doubt there's an advantage at all, seeing as how most users would simply say something like, "Wrong section to post this in." without giving you a serious response, or answering a question you may have asked.

For Irony a mod should move this to offtopic as it does not pertain any discussion of Runescape.

Wongton is better than me in anyway~~

Haha, wow . I honsetly did not think about it. But it kinda proves the point because if this were posted in the "Website Section" there would be like 3 replies. Plus I think there's a good amount you can get away with posting in general discussion.

I do clicke "Moved" posts a lot that I see, too. Noticing this is what gave me the incentive for this topic.

Views vary a lot from board to board, i bet the total # of daily views on the suggestion board isn't even 50% of the total # of daily views on this board.

It's just because the boards with the least amount of views are not less interesting but just less active.

I did it a couple of times in the past, intentionally posted my topic on the wrong boards but i have my reasons.

The only advantage you get from posting a topic on a busy board that should have been posted on a deserted board is that you will most likely always get a couple of views if not a few replies before the topic gets actually moved.

And if you intentionally posted in the wrong board than you succeeded in your plan.

Once it's moved it will just drop down to the second page within hours and people rarely check moved topics on the board they were previously posted, unless you use an eye catching title.

But then again, anyone replying to it won't bump it up on the board it was previously posted so like i said, the only advantage is to get some (extra) replies/views before it gets moved.

If this was posted in the correct forum, i would probably not reply to it.

Just because i personally find less active boards less interesting XD

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections.~unknown~

Back when the forums were still needed for selling/buying items without standing in Falador, I used to post a lot of my threads in the Recent Updates forum, because more people would see it. Ultimately, the number of people bumping the thread to say "omg wrong forum noob" would keep it alive long enough to attract a buyer/seller, and by the time a moderator moved it my purpose was complete.

That's mainly because you're a bit evil inside :P
