Like, I know they PREFER you could actually come into the office down in the U.K., but I'm in the U.S.!):

Is it possible for someone like me to be able to work for them so far away? Any positions? :/

1. "My ear's in a cup, I guess that doesn't count..."

2. "So heyyy, that's a pretty reasonable reaction huh?"

3. "So you up for NAFTA?"

4. "That went exactly how I wanted it to."

Getting into the games industry is very hard without knowing people who are already in it. There are thousands of people like you who are trying to get in.

You would have to move to the UK, as they have no offices anywhere else and they've said they prefer to keep all their employees together. If you're really that interested, you could check out Jagex's web site, where I believe they list the types of people they would hire.

http://www.jagex.com/careers

"Applicants must able to work in the United Kingdom. Proof of eligibility to work in the UK will be required should your application be processed."

Click the vacancies tab.

On a slightly unrelated note, "IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the extremely high volume of applications that Jagex receives, we are unable to provide candidates with individual feedback following initial application. If you have not received a response from us within 3 weeks, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful."

You better hope the bot that handles job applications is more intelligent than the bot that handles ban appeals.

They're trying to run a business here, what do you expect? They don't want a bunch of kids in their offices giving them terrible advice and telling them to put flames on their computers so they'll run faster.

Edit: I was just looking around their site and checking out some pics there..... Look what I spotted, a spy in the company.

wowvb.png

That's the only explanation is he's a spy. I mean, why else would he pay to play a game that Jagex is in competition with?

99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving.

Lol if you think that's the only thing you need to become a Jagex mod. You will need a degree relevant to Computer game designing

and show great motivation to want to work there.

@ OT: Afaik, you cannot work under Jagex in any circumstances if you live in the U.S.

Think seriously if you actually want a job at Jagex. You'll probably be working more than 40 hours and probably staying overtime at least once a week to make sure the update's perfect and ready to go. But while trying to make a slight change to that goddamn wall of text that is Runescape's code, something terrible goes wrong and nothing you and your other programmers try to do for six hours fixes it, so you're forced to delay the update, get a night's rest and hope the code is merciful the next day. You'll wake up and find this: http://forum.tip.it/topic/272623-game-update-delay/

You don't even have to be a programmer to have your life made hell by the ignorant teens that think that developing a game like Runescape is easy peasy. Of course, you don't even have to look at the feedback of the players. I assume most Jagex employees don't even consider the playerbase anymore. The amount of good suggestions among all the whining is slim, and finding a suggestion that would actually work (in regards to a lot of stuff; scope, software, pc capabilities, etc.) is even rarer. I'm sure developing for Runescape would be a hell of a lot of fun at times, but I personally find the users of it far too annoying

Edit: To abyssal ^ There are a lot of degrees relevant to game design. Of course if you want to be a programmer get a computer science degree, or an artist some sort of graphic design or animation-type degree. But game design is pretty different, and an English degree could work as well as an Aerospace Engineering degree. Well, there's a difference, but game designers/developers have rather diverse jobs. The only true game design degree I've seen is really only offered by trade schools, which are rare and expensive :P

Jagex wouldn't employ an American person unless they were amazing at their field and its much easier to simply get into the PC games field (their are tons of other games) and then attempt to get experience so Jagex would immediatly employ you. I'm afraid that its just not that great to be a Jagex worker, being able to get mod powers of teleportation and shape changing and all that stuff is basically what people get on private servers (never tried it), its just a normal job with a superpowered runescape acount, I don't even think all workers get a jagex mod acount.

Jagex employee's are allowed to play whatever they like, I can't really imagine the higher moderators going around with a whip forcing people to play runescape.

The last time I checked, Jagex did not accept "telepresence" employees. However, that was a few years ago; the policy could have changed since then.

Still the same, if i'm correct employees must undergo training first, you cannot do that if you're overseas.

After reading I think your going to have to spend 120 days in england doing nothing until your a citizen and maybe you need some experience first.

Basically:

* five years legal residence in the UK

* indefinite leave to remain or "equivalent" for this purpose (see above) must have been held for 12 months

* the applicant must intend to continue to live in the UK or work overseas for the UK government or a British corporation or association

* the same "good character" standards apply as for those married to British citizens

* the same language and knowledge of life in the UK standards apply as for those married to British citizens

Jagex doesn't allow overtime. But the rest of your point stands.

I would work at Jagex just for the one day chance of getting MHL's customer service email. I would write her reply back and sign it "Mod Omali," and it would be the best CS response known to man.

But don't mind me, I'm talking 100% innuendo.

Jagex seem to employ largely from university graduates who have done placements at their studios and or have experience in other games studios or electronics firms. But this really isn't a place to discuss how to get a job at Jagex, and I think the chances of anybody knowing anything that could realistically help would be slim so I am locking this.
