Erm, do all creatures trigger floodgates, or just hostile ones? I have a constant flow of cats, dogs, and civilians going in and out so... Would one of them trigger it?

My metalcrafter made a silver piccolo encrusted with silver and encircled with rings of silver. It has an image of a dwarf in silver.

They will be set off by anything within the weigh boundries...

 

 

Pressure plates are built on any floor using b, T, p. You will be prompted to enable what type of things should trigger the plate (water, magma, creatures, or some combination of the three). You are then instructed to set up a range between two values of weights- a minimum to a maximum. e and r effect the minimum weight, and d and f effect the maximum. More on this below.

oh friggernaffy. i jsut realizedthat setting my stairs to the upper farm areas is a huge security breach. lets see... stonefal traps, check.. vicious war dogs at the end of the one square coridor.. check.. a giant balistae at the end?.. nope.

I believe there is an option to forbid passage of dwarves and (Maybe) other friendly units to certain tiles. You could try using that.

Also, I just bought an exceptional artifact steel spear and shield for my best military dwarf, as well as silver bolts to melt down for hammers and two steel anvils.

Artifact furniture is very useful for satisfying your nobles demands for more expensive rooms.

 

On a side note, did you know you can smelt Tetrahedrite, which only has a 20% chance of producing a silver bar, and gold together to create electrum?

 

Basically, Going by metal values, an ore of tetrahedrite is worth an average of -4 (Fuel cost. One coke is worth 10, I believe. Could be wrong about that though), and a gold ore is worth an average of 20. By skipping the middle man, you use only one fuel, and the tetrahedrite/gold becomes 2 electrum bars, with a value of 15 (Fuel cost again) each.

 

Thus, efficiency is increased, and you are gaining 14 value, as well as making the operation faster.

Hey Retech, what exactly is down those stairs in the second picture?

oh, techy, do you have a windmill or a water wheel? i know what needs to be made to use the power for it.. tell me if you want a diagram..

If you look at the center of the first picture in the big dug-out area, with the statues, that is where the stairs lead to. Basically the entrance to my fort. I plan to add ballistas behind a wall, to add a second defence (since the water freezes during winter, I think). Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I should trigger the trap? I have levers right now.
