Silver is the worst for everything except blunt weapons. For blunt weapons, silver beats adamantine.

Another new fortress started; it seems to be moving along rather well. Got a workshop hall and farm mined out, and working on a storeroom.

Well, despite not starting with a carpenter or a wood cutter(Accidently), and having an aquifer on the map which meant I spent 20 minutes looking for rock....Now it is going rather well.

I have a carpenter, traded for some wood, but he is too lazy to actually build the waterwheel so that is hanging, half completed, off the axle he made earlier.

Just built a groundwater powered irrigation system, which is I am impressed with/

 

 

However, given that every time I go mining I have to press the space bar a hundred times to keep the game moving(Aquifer), I am getting a touch bored...so I am building everyone a Bauxite house with full walls and funiture...Might even get them beds now that I think of it =P

you can do a search for no auifers, y'know..

You can actually disable the aquafiers. Just go to the raws, search the objects file for "inorganic_stone_soil" and all similar files, and then remove the brackets around the [AQUAFIER] tag.

 

If you mess something up, no big deal, replace the brackets, good as new.

 

Just in case though, back up your saves first.

 

Because aquafiers are annoying as hell.

I actually look for aquifers, since they beat the hell out of rivers(in my opinion)

Anyway, just got hit with a wave of 15ish migrants...not a carpenter or woodsman among them!

how so? they impede digging, you cant fish them, your dwarves get angry when the walls leak, and your place wil flood if the aquifer is left unchecked...

Archi, I got several waves of 20 immigrants who were all soldiers in my last fort. You have no right to complain! :rolleyes:

You can build your base, build a wall around your base, add a floodgate and an internal wall, farm land is sorted. You can add a well fairly easily too....The only real downside is that they stop you mining a massive area...but I never do so I don't mind =P

i figured out why my guys died... i had an aboveground farm plot.. with doors leading out of it..

I think you need architecture or mechanics to build a waterwheel. You can use q and hover near it to check what you need.

Nope, had both, but, for some reason, and not just with waterwheels, novices you get as immigrants are useless. <_<

then use embark carefully.. naow, ima try it again.. oh.. and arch? you can easily get that from rivers, and little ponds you can block up to stop rain from ruining your stuff..

Course it also means that you can get water just about anywhere underground =P

Meaning you can channel, build water wheel and pump and flood anywhere in a few minutes...

same thing with a floodgate connected to any large watersource. hell, a cistern would work if you needed it that badly.

We all have our own styles...mine involves a small base, with an aquifer and tombs of starved immigrant dwarves....and a dozen waterfalls. :thumbsup:

waterfalss are practiaclly useless. aquifers are dificult to keep track of, imppsible in those areas where you cant smooth stone. you run into one of those, your fortress is screwed from that point further...

Ocean is much slower than a pipe, surprisingly. I would know, I made a very large direct passage and opened it right up, suuuuch sloooow progress. As I mentioned before, all the dwarves died of thirst before the water reached drowning height ANYWHERE in the fortress. That takes minutes.
