Once you've scanned that, you could either paint it using a brush on Photoshop / GIMP, or you could vector it, vectoring being the harder, but better outcome IMO.

It's kinda hard to make that border transparent as whoever did the black bit has used a soft brush which is hard to render out >_< I'll make it 100kb though ;) I'll edit the post later.

It's at 91kb at 100% quality jpeg so it looks exactly the same as .png

Awesome, and I confess to have used the soft brush. :P

 

I still have the photoshop file so it wouldnt be hard to just remove the black.

 

When I tried making a smooth fade from the picture to a transparant background, it would always make the edges non-smooth when I saved it as a picture file.

 

 

 

I could post the picture without the black parts and without the smooth borders if it would help. ;)
