Slayer is GREAT profit! but not for me...

Featured Replies

Everytime when someone makes a 'how do I make money' thread the most common anwser is: 'try slayer, it's great'. I've trained slayer quite a bit and never lost money with it but also never had great profit. There are some slayer monsters who have good drops, but I rarely get these. I have probably slayed thousands of strykewyrms, gargoyles, dragons, dust devil's, etc. etc. I've had 3 hexcrest so far, 2 mauls and thats is. No dragon drops, ever, no other valueble things from clue's, nothing. Not even from my 2 elite clue's. I'm not saying I don't make profit with slayer, because I do, but with a little more luck I can and could have made millions instead of a 100kish trips. Today was the worst of all, 6 tasks done + 2 clues with a total profit of 300k. I know, this game is all about luck, but i'd like to have a little bit more of that.

However, I still enjoy this game and I will continue slaying, but I just wanted to say this

Luck is a cruel mistress.

Here's hoping your luck (and mine) change in the near future! I recently started slaying again to rebuild a 28mil splurge on training prayer and it's been a slow, arduous process.

Slayer is not great money, I'm 15m slayer xp, I should know. emot-eng101.gif

its the best money you can make while training slayer :shades:

slayer isn't for money its for either a way to train combat with variety or slayer xp.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

I would not say slayer is absolutely epic money. But isn't something to just discount as not worth the time. Your average money made per task goes up quite a bit after 83.

Slayer is not quick cash, it is a slow and steady profit, that does not depend on luck as much. You are 78 slayer and have 3 hexcrest, that is impressive. I am 86 slayer and I have just as many. I never cancel a strykewyrm task either. I will say, for strykewyrms, the money you get from them is not from getting a focus sight or a hexcrest. It is from the ess, herblore seconds, and other noted drops and seeds. I have made probably 3x as much from that stuff as from getting focus sights and hexcrests.

And slayer tasks are perfect for fitting in between farming herbs. :D

2 elite clues in one strykewyrm task is also fun. Eventually my luck should improve...........

Slayer isnt extremely good money, but its good money _and_ exp combined. Or that's just how I see it.

Never train slayer purely for cash. Train it for the exp.

That will never work out for most tasks, and you're not guaranteed a rare drop from a task anyway.

I thought my blue dragon task will make me great money (as what many told me), but in the end what did I make, 1m at most?

I love slayer since you make a little bit of cash and have fun doing it imo, but if it's money your after I would think runecrafting would be the way to go. There is no luck involved while crafting natures, just pure profit =D.

Slayer is a good way to train ALL combat skills while making a little money. BTW, you wont see any real profit from slayer before 83.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

I have probably slayed thousands of strykewyrms, gargoyles, dragons, dust devil's

How've you killed thousands of these yet keep your slayer as low as 72 and maintain about 11 million combined comabt experience?

Look guys... I absolutely must be a mass baby-seal murderer!

Slayer is only good if you cannot concentrate.

Slayer actually gets way better when you concentrate and dont suck/afk tasks etc

+ you arent going to get any profit until 83 Slayer and this will Maximise at 93. Rant once your 93.

I'm 35M Slayer Experience and I seem to make half decent cash off all tasks. If you don't take 5 years to do a task then you could probably do more tasks a day, and thus, earning more gp.

If you can concentrate on a menial task, praying at Azombies will get you FAR more c ombat exp/h. With the saved time, you can easily make the cash back.

Totally agree with you here, but you have had more drops than me ;-; That makes me feel upset xD Your even a lower slayer level than me too. Ah ell, keep on slaying.

You're right, but what about ranged, magic, and summoning experience? Given that you train almost all combat stats directly through slayer (exception is prayer), plus you get effigies, slayer is actually the most efficient way to train combat.

If all you want is melee experience, zombies are better.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

I'm going to be frank when I say Slayer ISN'T great money. It's a great way to train, since it's a nice balance between money, xp, and charms, but if you're out for cash, I would steer clear of Slayer (Barrows is better >.>).

Plus, remember when people recommend "Slayer", what they usually mean is "Powerslaying", which still profits by a considerable amount, but it's nowhere near the other methods is moneymaking via. combat.

i personally powerslay and lose up to 300K a task on repair costs pots and titan scrolls... and few tasks have drops that can make up for it. granted i only have 70 slayer and hate the skill.

slayer has a lot of perks to it, and is generally the best way for people to get maxed combat if they prefer afk-ability.

several reasons:

-- moderate income (200-500K an hour if you don't powerslay)

-- variety

-- charms for summoning

-- effigies

if your playstyle is more concentrated, i advise training up to like 85 melee/mage/range skills and getting 99 purely through monster hunting (DK's, frosts, barrows are a few example) you'll probably make around the order of 500M-1B if you MH effectively all the way up to maxed cb stats
