Guthorm
This is really a random thought. Let's say somehow scientists invented a device that enables humans to teleport anywhere/any place they wish to be. Now let's pretend all the possible side effects such as easy assassinations, two people teleport in the exact same spot at the same time etc etc does not exist. If there is a chance that you will die or hurt every time you use it, and let's say the chance is equal to the death/injure rate of car+train+plane(basic transportation) accidents, would you use it? Iconic
It truly wouldn't be a good thing, Infact I don't think that civilians would ever use it; it would only be used for experiments and science, it would take a lot longer for it to allow civilian use.It would probably allow for arms to transported much much quicker and wouldn't have that much of an impact to hunger (military is always prioritised!). I would never use it if it was dangerous (IE, copying vs transferring argument) and the fact it would make us lazy. [Falador tavern]

To be honest, if teleporters were invented, you would have to have some kind of direct physical link set up between the start and the destination. Considering how much information would have to be sent, you couldn't feasibly do it wirelessly. You'd have to use lines with the capacity of the main lines of the internet. That makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to set one up under the radar. By the time the technology has developed to the point that it does become possible to do it without physical links, the inventors would have to get money from somewhere, and no government could provide as much money as what you could get if you released teleporters to the commercial market. Oh and I'd most certainly use them, but I fear of the consequences of cloning myself. The whole identity theft thing would get much more complicated. As rocco said, spacial portals would be much more convenient. You can use them for so much more than transport. ~ W ~

Flodder450
There's not much you can do with teleportation. But a portal gun, on the other hand - I could wreak some serious havoc with that. But seriously, id love to have a portal gun,it would be soo much fun :D but wouldnt your legs break from the downward thrust you get when you go Speedy things go in ; speedy things go out? 99 Firemaking 30-5-2010 | 99 Fletching 13-7-2014 TET-AU member:6-10-2010 - 21-10-2011

Kimberly
I would use it in a heartbeat. Screw paying 10k USD for a Chevy Colbalt, bring on atom scrambling! But really, if teleportation was ever possible, let alone in reality, it would be for the wealthy and 'important'. It would never trickle down to average man. Not to mention the paranoia...We can't even secure servers let alone entire areas lol.
Aeon_
To whoever said direct link, World at War teleporters anyone? Many believe that the 1980 eruption of Mt. Saint Helens was a catostrophic geological event, in reality it was the day that Jimi Hendrix returned to Earth from the next world and actually stood up next to a mountain and chopped it down with the edge of his hand.-Random Youtuber
Guest Mrmegakirby
Where did I read that a teleporter would be like a fax machine? It would create an exact copy of the person/thing being copied, and destroy the original. So you'd die, and an exact clone would take your place, with all of your memories, thoughts, ect. I think it was on cracked. So, for that reason, no.

Dupin
I would definitely use it given the info you've given us. Realistically, there would probably be some sort of risk of accidentally moving your nose to your crotch and vice-versa. Since there isn't really any solid idea for this, we can't say what the potential complications could be.

Icuownage
I'd teleport into area 51. Or i'd teleport with things saying "Icu was here!" And go to the white house, 10 downing street, buckingham palace, area 51, MI5, MI6, CIA, places like that, and leave that sign. It's a REALLY big shaft.I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time? sarg1010
It would depend. nine naked men
I would much rather have a dispenser here. But if it was free/cheaper than the usual means of transport I'd use to get wherever I needed to get, I'd be all "beam me up, Scotty!" sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
das1330
I think that a teleporter is an excellent idea - so long as deep philosophical issues are avoided. There, the answer becomes more murky.
civie
If it would be possible and safe, I would certainly use it. It could be like trains: hubs across the country, then use other Mass-Transit systems such as clean busses (they are bound to be there when we have teleporters) to the destination. Jeffwilson99
I'd prefer just to be Goku and use the instant transmission. The things you could do. Go on holiday, anywhere, everyday, almost instantly. Raining this afternoon? I think I'll just to sit on the beach in Hawaii for a few hours. Slept in for class, only 2 minutes to get there? Not a problem!
