Holy Carp... ARCHI WAS NAMED ZAX?

Erm, nevermind. Inside thing.

Anyways, I'm thinking through a new game. Mostly RP... but there are boundaries and the mod will determine what happens. It's based around 24 magical abilities (a la Brandon Sanderson Misting...), considered evil by nature and causing those possessing them to be reviled by society and hunted down (...served with a side of Brent Weeks color wight). The characters will have to choose their path carefully... as I do not intend them to be the Heros here. Nor the victors. Though not all of the world Lestrai are bound by mortality, or reality, nothing is certain.

This is an ancient chant and nursery rhyme, one of the few insights Lestrians have into the world of the Fallen (the general name for those with powers).

Shifters. Sliders. Breakers. Binders.

Angels. Shades. Flutters. Fades.

Rimes. Raisers. Chimes. Blazers.

Gods. Grims. Nods. Rims.

These are the curses, these are the crimes,

These are the our verses, these are our rhymes,

To keep them at bay, to lie them to rest,

As Marrestra commands, and may we be blessed.

You'll have to explain the world a bit if you want to add any structure to it. Further, is there an option to not have "magic."

I honestly don't care if I do or don't, my point is that I said I did, Ross said he did and Mather said he did...and it didn't change anything...So therefore someone being a Furry, despite some people taking exception to that, would not cause any major change.

Falador Tavern: Where the misfits fit and the trolls get trolled.

Nex, your game looks very interesting to say the least. But I'd appreciate it if you didn't start it up too soon - The Land of the Game is kinda struggling to stay above water at the moment, and a new game would probably send it under.

I think the main reason people don't join the Tavern is that conversations go like this:

Person A:

[Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Opinion][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact]

Person B:

Your opinion is wrong!

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Can we get back on topic please guys? :) If you want to talk about something else there is The Back Room. Or if it's related to role-playing you can create a new thread.

Alright.. Hmmm.. Howsabout this?

We all contribute to the introduction, and the people with the most experience in each of the genres (Archi, Retech, Ross, Stork, whoever for hegenomy, Archi, ross, whoever for dungeoneering, and whoever for zombie) Makes a communal description of the game. Short and simple, ofc.

BACK TO TOPIC:

Perhaps a welcome thread? Like people post there to introduce themselves, I think it should be compulsory for all of us to post their to atleast get a person to look at it and think that they're not going to be the first person ever to post there. It just gives a chance for a person to easily introduce themselves to everyone here, and then, through that topic they can find out games that're going on, and they work, without having to delve too much into the 100+ pages the game may or may not have.

Maybe a game with such basic rules that a person can just post and play. Like arena, that was pretty simple.

Another thing, perhaps more IRC based games, IRC is a good element for the tavern, and if the new people understand how to use it, then it should make playing more complex (albeit simpler with IRC) games. This also because games tend to have large topics, this is bad when a person wants to join.

From personal experience I found myself put off by Hegemony when I first played, because it was like 100+ pages, and I was like 'Omg I wont know anything' The main reason I was able to play so quickly was because I got Ross to explain the rules to me. Even then, I found myself questioning everything :P, though I did get a lot of help, and it was from IRC (New World Order channel)

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Thread Necromancy Aversion, Off Topic Discussion and Moderator interference(Which is the natural result of Off Topic Discussion) puts pay to that idea.

Thread Necromancy Aversion.

The key problem is that, if we create a thread it is good for a week, perhaps...Then it is dead and people have no reason to look at it.

Another thing, perhaps more IRC based games, IRC is a good element for the tavern, and if the new people understand how to use it, then it should make playing more complex (albeit simpler with IRC) games. This also because games tend to have large topics, this is bad when a person wants to join.

It sounds like a good idea, since people can actually interact with us in realtime, rather than posting on a long dead thread. However, it will require people to actually be on the IRC channel...

Alternatively we could stage 5 minute roleplays on the #Runescape channel (If Muhammad won't go to the mountain, then the mountain will go to Muhammad.) or just advertise every 20 minutes ' Enjoy roleplay? /join #RoleplayUlike '

Additionally...if we were going to do an IRC for new members...No In jokes.

You are just did the logic wrong, Archi, while one can do sexual acts by oneself they're not sex, since sex means sexual intercourse, not sexual intracourse.

Also a true sexuality is the same as a -philia, it is a personaly set requirement, while a fetish is a preference.

By your logic:

Hetrosexuals are fetishists, as shown by male prisons, and Homosexuals are fetishists, as shown by gay people marrying straight people.

Hetro-men prefer women, but can settle for men. While Homo-men prefer men, but can settle for women.

And a Furry who refuses to have sex unless their partner barks like a dog has a sexuality...since it is a requirement, not a preference.

Sex can also be defined as:

Feelings or behaviour resulting from the urge to gratify the sexual instinct

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

IRC's only slow because of the way its done. If the moderator typed everyones replys and everyone could reply it would be fast but its slow because of doing everyone individually.

Irrelevant and incorrect.

No one, except you, has stated that IRC is slow.

The moderator replying to everything at once slows the game considerably...As rounds would be 5 minutes long, with maybe another 5 minutes where the mod types out the responces.

Thus leading to rounds that last 6-10 minutes.

Your evidence is based on a single game, modded by someone who had never done it before.

Your evidence does not take into account the confusion generated by everyone acting at the same time.

It helps considerably to read off topic posts before moving them.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

A welcome thread would be good, and maybe a bit of IRC gatherings to help it out? Also, Iconic, stop it with the IRC stuff!

Heres proof that you are wrong. When it took so long for me to do all that stuff, i was doing a dice roll unececarily to cause laughs and gigles abound in the first session, which caused me to go slower. I won't be doing that any more on IRC, so there won't be any more "You die while breathing in your own tounge" kind of deaths. Also, it went slower because people were trying the most crazy things to not die randomly, and that combined with the hegenomy jokes slowed it down. I sped it up by skipping people who didn't give a reason why it took them so long. AND i won't be using exposition in the rolls anymore, which will speed it up as well. What you experienced is first use shakiness combined with the dificulties of modding a game with people who had so many inside jokes it's like we have a first national banks worth of them.

exaggerated timings

Not really...It is, of course, possible to go really fast. One person and a mod could do it in around 20 seconds.

However, if a player happens to write a long, descriptive post, then it could take two or three minutes.

Assuming someone needed to go to toilet...But if they did and 20 minutes later they had not got back....So 5 minutes seem a reasonable time to wait.

your right, I will watch the next space game

Good

Turns help a lot actually, they make it so if someone posts "I commit suicide randomly" and then all the others just say don't be a [wagon], then i know if it's an action or not. (Somtimes i actually fear this will happen, somone is in an extremley diplomatically tense situation and i mistake them saying "Oh you stupid! Do ..." for an action and that messes them up for a while)

Well, hallo. Basically, this is an RP thread, where we all get together for a little monster bashing fun, with all your buddies across the internet you manage to pull here. We have a few games running, most o fthem based off of Dungeoneering, one of our more sucessful games. one is based off of both that and Hegenomy, another succesful game. Dungeoneering is basically your standard RP'ing. You tell the mod what you want to do, he rolls to see if you fail comically or come out as a god for that action. Hegenomy is where you end up as Ruler of a country, giving orders, researching, and building armies to fight otherplayers, who want to rule the world, like you. We can get you started on any of these games you see fit to join up with. Just take your pick. ('Zat good?)

Indeed, we are very much a board that believes in the two footed approach to exploration.

The only strong(Ie definately gonna be here next week) is Space. The next session should be Monday, but due to a 13 hour session, the mod(me) has reschedual for Tuesday.

You are more than welcome to join in with that if you wish, just read the opening post, fill in the two forms, post them or PM them to me if you have any questions. (Its set in an alternate timeline so you should have questions =P)

Alternatively there is HegeRomey, which is terribly easy to play. All you have to do is read the first post, pick a country that isn't already taken, and post your countries actions...These can be just about anything you like, since we all have very different views of what is 'reasonable', people will agree and disagree with you no matter what you do...Most of which will sound very convincing, but wholely incorrect, since the only person you have to listen to is Icuowange, since he is the mod...and he will have a different opinion of what is reasonable again(But he is a kitty cat, so you can get away with a lot)

So, in summery, read the opening post on those two, pick one, or the other, or both, and then write a long-winded post to get over you nerves(Rambling a lot helps) and just see what happens...Because in the Tavern...Whether careful or reckless... You have a 1 in 20 chance of accidently injuring yourself

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

You have a 1 in 20 chance of accidently injuring yourself

You also have a 1 in 20 chance of succeeding wildly beyond your expectations. This has resulted in:

  • Shields that fire concrete-piercing lasers at random intervals
  • Blizzards that last for decades
  • The breaking of the unbreakable with a simple maul
  • Demons. Oh so many demons.
  • Skeletal crocodiles that can talk
  • Satan almost being killed with exploding daisies

So don't be afraid to try some really random crap.

I also mod The Land of The Game, which has gone mildly inactive due to lack of interest and the players only wanting to play on days when I come home mentally fried from school. So if you want to play that, just post over there and I'll try to start up a session.

Falador Tavern

Congratulations of finding Falador Tavern. But you have no idea where to start? Don't worry, over the course of this thread it will all be explained to you. If you are still confused please feel free to post any questions in the Help & Introductions thread.

What Is This Forum?

  • The Falador Tavern is a role-playing forum open to all users. There are many popular pre-existing role-plays here but all users are welcome to create their own :)
We have many different games and roleplays here, if you see anything that confuses you just ask the GM who will attempt to explain everything to you.

    Forum Rules & Guidelines

    • Game moderators run, manage, and set the rules for role-plays.

    • Individual rules are set for each role-play. Please abide by these rules. If you disagree with them, consult the game moderator.

    • Flaming is prohibited. All users should be treated with respect.

Popular Games

Hegemony

  • Hegemony is a game where you act as the ruler of a country, you control troops, research technologys and rule the world! A game of skill the objective is to excel your nations before many others. Can have variations (Medieval, Space, Napoleonic and Fantasy). The game usually has aspects of
AAR's and minor roleplaying but at heart its a game of tactics and creativity.

Dungeoneering

  • Dungeoneering is a roleplay where you do post your actions and the moderator decides on the outcome of those actions, as a player you can take on different roles and peform different actions. These actions will give you skills which will improve your ability in a certain skill. Dungeoneering is played on the forum or on IRC where it is live and much faster then forum gaming.

Forum Roleplays

  • A Roleplay is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making or character development
