yea i seriously don't get how rapier+box would be better than baxe+box overall. rapier's accuracy is significantly lower (20-30 points) below baxe, and max dps really isn't that much higher. + there aren't THAT many stab monsters that would really overcome this difference.

i would consider it if i actually saw more people using it, but otherwise i will stick with baxe.

Well, the theory is, that because rapier is always better than 2h for stabbing and can keep up with it for slashing(up to medium defense), and because you'd use box for crush/magic weak opponents, the rapier is a good alternative(an alternative, it's not better) for 2h, let alone baxe(which is in almost every way worse than 2h). I'm 100% sure a team with 4 2h and one rapier is better than 5 2hs, so even when a weapon isn't better, because of the diversity of monsters, it's better for a team.

I just bind spear when i get it, i don't even use berserker because i have hex, i just switch between desperado and gatherer.

Uhh, the other point of that post I made was also to compare the longsword in comparison to the rapier...

Longsword has a very slight stat advantage than rapier in terms of stab, but the speed advantage makes rapier superior there. What's interesting though, is the slash. Unlike spear, longswords CAN be used on berserker style for slash, which definitely means higher dps in that compartment. Look at 2hs if you don't believe my slash comparison...

With this taken into account, the rapier would be the stab specialist weapon, while the longsword would be more of a slash/stab hybrid. In this case which would be better?

Also, why use a battleaxe (which its crush/slash is inferior to the 2h) for keying, when you can use either of the two weapons to cover up the 2h's no-stab weakness?

Erm, with everyone having 2h's, why would you specifically need a slash specialist weapon? doesn't make any sense to me.

In any case, the rapier is better than longsword for slashing up to around 160 defense(medium defense) and is up to 16% worse at infinite defense, so realistically, rapier is better for slashing. For stabbing, there is no comparison, rapier is 30% better at 0 defense and 50% better at infinite defense, which is huge.

so l2dg failed, which is my fault. i don't have the time for its upkeep - if anyone else does, talk to me so i can see where you might want to take the cc, and i can give it to you.

i had an idea:

What if TIF made a separate DG only subforum? there's so much content to discuss wrt DG that it warrants its own forum to have comprehensive discussion. it would basically function as general disc, help&advice, AoW, as well as clan recruitment in one board. tipiters can organize perm teams there as well.

what do the mods think about this?

Great idea, do not see it happening though. Take a page out of all the popular dg clans books and improve upon their formula's of success. As you know becoming massively popular didn't help their cases so keeping your clan underground essentially would be a great point to start. But as you said, running such things takes a lot of time out of your day which few people want to deal with.

the only maintenance a subforum would require is moderation... no promotion/convoluted ranking and recruitment system is required. there's much to gain because:

-- keeping it on tif would be better vs an entirely new forum b/c tif's userbase is already intelligent, knowledgeable, and generally reliable.

-- accountability for running dgs well

-- perm team making would be easier

i'm sure we could find volunteers willing to moderate it.

I recently befriended a couple 120 dungeoneers and through them got to DG with a fair few more of them. 3rd and 4th binds are all over the place!

First, I was really shocked and saddened to see how few had actually gotten a HHB drop over the course of 104m+ experience. Working with the idea of making range bodies during a dungeon, I would bind one in a heartbeat.

I think an interesting setup would be: Hood/Primal Spear p++/HHB/Sagg body/arrows, with desperado ring. However, everyone I saw with a HHB had a primal platebody, why? I could understand a primal chainbody (neutral range), but wouldn't a sagg body just absolutely destroy? Also, with desperado ring, is primal spear a reasonable substitute for primal 2h or is there no comparison?

For the non-HHB, 4th binds were still pretty varied. A lot bound platelegs when I'd think that you would want plateskirts to cover crush defence! At the same time, I did see someone with a Blood Necklace, and I've got to say that it seems like an attractive 4th bind without a bow drop. Still, the combination of two primal armor pieces is significant, especially for Warped floors...

Any new thoughts on this after the final set of items has actually been released?

I think primal spear is a terrible bind no matter what assuming you can switch rings effectively(mostly between melee/magic or melee/range). What, however, i'd like to see is 4 binds with hood, rapier, blood ammy and golden precision brace(and celebox for mage) for max melee offense. I think a setup like that with a few primal 2h's/HHB's to complement would be really, really good.

was thinking of getting skirt but bound legs its much easier to get legs than get a skirt as well reason people get platebody is its balanced for keying can take it off for when ur using hexhunter.

bloodnecklace is good for str bonus and the healing a very bad 3rd bind but can be a good alternative to legs

i die alot less to keying with primal legs+plate compared to just plate however shades are still deadly!!

and prayer is still needed.

platebody bound with hex is just cuz more defence when not using hex. chainbody really sucks compared to a plate defence wise.

i saw skiller703 with sag body tho just most dont mainly range..

if l2dg starts up again ill join

I'm thinking of getting Blood - HHB - 2H - Hood as a 4 bind combo, for the massive offense.

I'm kinda getting used to just making ranged armor in dungeon, and I really think it's nice if done properly.

Of course this bind set up absolutely sucks for keying.

But I think it would be worth it purely for the purpose of room clearing.

and in response to xpx, perhaps flameburst defender would be better than golden precision bracelet.

Maybe even primal gauntlets

101 stab, 82 slash, 125 str for flameburst

104 stab, 93 slash, 120 str for golden defender.

92 stab, 76 slash, 132 str for primal gauntlet

so the flameburst is definitely better for stab than golden precision, golden precision is better for slashing armored targets though.

granted you can't just have the convenience of keeping a surgebox wielded the entire time, or the +5 magic bonus from a golden precision.

Naaxi.png

I use the Rapier-Surgebox-Hood-Chainbody combo. I'm waiting for a Blood Necklace to drop out of the sky to replace the Chain so I can make up for my otherwise paltry offenses. Still not sure about how effective it is; I'm basing it on the theory that everyone else uses slow crush orientated weapons so I don't have to.

Convenience is quite important for the surgebox...annoying having to switch continuously and wait for the surge to show up. The above is for leisure dungeoneering though, so I haven't actually done much serious stuff.
