SGS/DFS - Yes or no?

Recommended Posts

I've been saving for an SGS, but yesterday a few of my friends told me that I shouldn't buy it. Then, when I asked them if I should buy a DFS, they didn't respond >.>

So should I buy either of them? I don't really feel like spending it on skills right now (usually that's what I'd do) and before you try and say get a chaotic weapon, NO. I don't train dung very often, can't bother to get higher than I already am. NO way I'm getting 80.

Um, look at the graph.

Are you sure that is a good idea?

If you don't have claws/EE, get them

If you don't have a rune def/super antifires, get them.

And now you've pretty much gotten rid of the need for a SGS/DFS.

super anti-fire need 85lv and dont even think of training it now... buying materials during market recession just means losing money fast.

And I'm saying that he should get them. If he has the 40ish mil for the SGS, that's definitely enough for 85 herby. (84 if he just uses greenman's ale, now if he just stews). I know he said that he doesn't want to spend it on skills right now, but just waiting around, using the money to flip, and then training herblore when he does feel like it would be better choice imo.

You could also try and go for broke and get the requirements for the elite seers diary for EEE (400 HP heal pl0x)

Don't buy either - you can get better alternatives for free: EEE and rune defender.

Dragon drops: 82 (2 claws)

Dagannoth kings drops: 73

Barrows item count: 51

GWD drops: 54 (5 hilts: 1x bandos, 3x saradomin, 1x zamorak)

Whips: 4

Sigils: 1x spectral (FFA), 1x arcane (FFA)

92 herby for the elite? Ouch. That's still what, about 87 if I stew/ale it? Hadn't even thought about elite seers though.

I say no, get your herblore up and get a chaotic even though you don't want to. Do some research to find out how to dg in a way you can enjoy.

Dragonfire shield is mostly only useful if you have tons of cash to spend, and even if you do have it, the +2 str bonus won't really help unless you're fighting a low defence monster while using extremes/overload + turmoil, or you have to tank something (Like Bandos.)

Or well, there's one use where it beats defender, and that's PvP activities.

Enhanced Excalibur > Saradomin Godsword.

So yes. But, there's rumour of Dragon Defender coming out this month, so that might be the reason why Dragonfire shield is dropping.

Get prayer 95 or 85+ herblore first. The Dragonfire shield can more or less only go lower in price right now.

Give a man a lighter, and he will be warm for a while.

Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Define "tons of cash"?

Commenting on a purely marketing view, comared to Sgs, 95 prayer or 85+ herblore, the 26.5m price tag of the resellable dragonfire shield is relatively quite affordable.

Going from 81->85 cost 29mil using anti-fire (4599*6490). Getting 95 prayer will cost over 100mil without even calclating. Non-refunable of cause.

Resellable when it's clearly been dropping for the past few months. While 95 pray maybe not be refundble, the utility of turmoil + soul split is far greater than that of the DFS.

Rumours of the dragon defender, I hear. But that's just a rumour of a rumour, really :P.

My definition of "tons of cash" would be that you have enough gold pieces to have 95 prayer, 96 herblore, 96 summoning, bandos equipment, fury, zamorakian spear, berserker ring, dragon claws + a leftover 30m.

And I would not lay my hands on the Dragonfire shield right now since it is clearly dropping., and it would be a gamble to buy it. It might rise up again if there is no dragon defender, or crash hard if it comes out.

Hence also why I suggest you are rich before you buy it, if it drops 10-15m, it might sting you instead of punch you in the stomach.

But yes, it is still your decision. Do you want to gamble, or play it safe and wait? Even if the dragon defender is not released, it might still continue to go down like a waterfall.

EEE is -absolutely not- better than the SGS. That's ridiculous, unless you're speaking on a value basis. I own both and the EEE has nowhere near the offensive nor healing ability of the SGS.

That said, now is not the time to buy the SGS. It has been in free-fall since the 4th of July, as the EEE is free and is a good alternative to it (again on a value basis). Wait for the price to at least stabilize (if not start rising); you'll likely only have to pay 30M or so for it.

The DFS is good if you don't have the herblore for super antifires and want to slay metals. I still enjoy it as a cool item and overall it is a much better balance of atk/def bonuses than the rune defender. Similarly, it has been in decline for a while.

Wait until the market starts to turn before you buy; it gives you more time to think about it and you're essentially making money on total bank value until the item free-fall stops.

EEE is far better when used with other weapons. I agree that, if you want only one weapon on you at all times, sgs > EEE. But for overall dps, chaotics/whip are better, and EEE spec takes no time, so doesn't decrease your dps like sgs does. Plus that sgs is two-handed (requires inv space to use), and doesn't heal that much more than EEE, and reliability > high max healing in most cases.

Same goes for dfs. It's completely useless for most things. I don't know why you think it's a better balance between atk/def, since the defender's bonusus in those areas are equal (e.g. +20 stab atk and def).

dfs is not for slaying dragons. it's for slaying wyverns and for soloing bandos and dks

oh and EEE is superior to SGS in healing, only thing SGS is "good" (lol) for is the prayer, which turns out to be near worthless since prayer potions are 7k now?

Sometimes these things rise because people think they're smart enough to buy against the trend (I think).
