1) For extremely risky, (like Corporeal Beast, or anywhere death + losing items is likely), low risk situations, would it be better to use Rune Kiteshields or Granite shields? Would the Dragon square shield be worth as the ultimate decision of the three? *Only keeping one kind, hate to keep items I won't be using often

 

2) For nonmembers, is the Rune Berserker shield worth obtaining? Or should I stick with Rune Kiteshield?

 

3) For melee combat training, including slayer, should I use defenders rather than shields?

 

4) Is the crystal shield worth getting? Why?

None, use Zamorak Spear cause any other weapon gives half weapon.

Use rune kiteshield for training, and Zerker for pking/clanning

Also the DFS will still have its uses for people who do not have 85 Herblore and for Tanking. Although not many people use it anymore anyway.

 

To contribute to te OP's questions.

For Ranging use an Unholy book or BSS. BSS is slightly weaker than DFS but a 10th of the price.

For Slayer, Rune defender. Always.

For Maging, BSS or Unholy Book. Arcane if you can afford it.

For corp, no shield, for the choice of three shields, dragon square. although rune defender is usually better if you can get it.

Situationally...The divine is better then all of them. But the Eagle Eye kite is second for armadyl. The CKS is good for pvp because of it's stats. The farseer beats arcane in Mage Vs mage combat, but looses everywhere else

Rune defender, divine, eagle-eye kite/chaotic kite, spectral/arcane, DFS

Defender is used everwhere except bosses, and only if tanking, if you're an attacker, you should use defender.

Divine is great for tanking, and soloing for it's staying power.

The dung shields are situational but good where they are,

spectral/arcane have random niche uses, but they're very good in those places,

dfs is a cheap alternative for a lot of things, it's an anti-fire shield, and even comes with a strength bonus

For casual maging, yes. For pvp maging, the Blastbox is better.

The mage's book is steady in the GE, if you plan to mage a lot, but don't have enough for an arcane, it's worth getting, you can just sell it back when you're done

Situationally yes, especially in pvp settings.

The unholy book has the best on task range bonus

If you can get it, a void range setup using the deflector is better.

If you can't get the elite void, Unholy book

Depends on the boss, most cases yes. For arma, you'd want Divine>Eagle-eye~spectral>DFS

 

3) Should I stick with 2h bows instead?

Depends on the situation. For casual ranging, throwing knives/darts or the rune crossbow are better to use. For serious combat situations, the Karil crossbow has high DPS, and the handcannon has high accuracy with KO potential. They should only be used if you don't need a shield however

Spectral sucks for everything expect Arma GWD. If you're going to get a spirit shield that isn't a Div/Ely, get an Arcane. It'll benefit you far more with Barrows and allow you to mage-slay decently.

The DFS is ALWAYS better defensive wise...because it has...well...better defense. There's no way around that.

The main advantage BSS has is it doesn't have negative range or mage attack.

 

This; and even so, it's still pretty terrible because in situations where you range or mage you need both ranged and mage defense, both of which DFS have a decent amount of. Arguably it's a bit better for maging, but that's hard to say.

 

by the way, 20 defense bonus is pretty huge.
