Thanks Sumona!

I went to Sumona in Pollvineach for a new slayer task, I got 50 Iron Dragons... I'm sure for some of you that would be a great task but seeing as I'm lvl 88 I can't finish this task. I tried killing one and it took a full inventory of sharks and 2 anti-fire pots. Is there anyway I can cancel this task or will I have to wait until I'm a higher lvl so I can kill these things. I'm guessing most of you are gonna say I went to the wrong master or whatever so I might as well ask the question now. What master should a lvl 88 be going to?

If you've done enough of her tasks, you'll have points you can spend to cancel a tasks, under the reward section.

By the way, your killing them wrong. The best way to kill them is either range/mage with the anti-dragon fire shield (of course) and the anti-fire potion. Or melee them with pro melee on, piety if you have it, super sets, and again the anti-fire potion.

It's probably not going to be worth your time to do the task, seeing as any method is going to take you a long time. so skip/block them, depending on the amount of points you have

I kill iron drags for sport and mage xp all the time. I recommend using chaos gloves and fire bolt, and mage armour works, I use lunar but that's because I'm too cool for mystic :shades:

Bring around 10 antifires, and 4 sharks/pray pot in case you get hit. Using antishield+pots will completely negate dfire damage. Plus, they use a long-range breath that allows you to mage them from a distance safely.

Have fun, and good luck with a visage or d platelegs :)!

Exactly, it's not a great task at your levels, but you can do a lot better with protect melee, 15% attack prayer/piety, pure set, antifire and a stab weapon (lbs, ks, even a rapier (not the chaotic one, the pirate one) or a d long). Or ranging with a simple rune crossbow (use a focus sight) or maging with a decent spell (sol + magic dart is nice).

Tanking steel dragons pretty much takes 99 defence/turm/extreme + unicorn, not recommended really.

Is it even worth it WITH 99 defence/turm/extreme + unicorn? lol

Frankly, I think the OPs best bet would be fire bolt, chaos gaunlets (a MUST) SoL if he has one, followed by fire/air staff (whatever one saves him more) wearing mystic, d fire shield, d fire potions. Or just cancel/burthrope it. He should at least try mage first imo >.>

Don't give up! as many have already said mage them...

fire bolt + chaos gaunts + sol + arcane stream neck (from dungonearing) = easy task. just remember the anti-fire pots... dont really need a high mage lvl or high any lvl as long as your careful your not taking damage

i don't play psykick anymore... i play 2ed: "pure fett"

More or less, trying to tank metal drags unless you have obscenely high defence and a healing familiar = bad idea. It may cost a bit more to use protect melee, but the bones should easily cover the cost of the potions used.

Use a stab weapon like everyone else suggested. So far as my knowledge goes, all dragons are at least slightly weak to stab (metals far more than the other dragons), so using lbs and such would be better than using whip or anything else unless you have really high attack - if I recall correctly, wasn't the figure 80+ attack with whip > lbs or other stab weapon for iron dragons? Perhaps that's old info. Either way, stab weapon for now.

Or you could range/mage them. If you stand at least one square away, they'll only spam their longrange firebreath attack, so an antidragon shield + antifire will cover you for damage completely, no p pots needed unless you want to use boost prayers as well. Like the others suggested, focus sight with rune cbow (I personally use broad bolts and emerald bolts e for poisoning whenever I range), or hex with best mage gear and chaos gaunts with fire bolt. Since I have access to arcane stream/sol/fire surge, maging them goes by extremely quick, although it isn't cheap >.>

It'll be a long task regardless, but I personally believe they're worth it :P good luck on getting d legs/vissy.

Tanking steel dragons takes...soul split...you don't need any healing familiars

I never get anywhere near dieing, I only use unicorn at bosses.

At your level, they aren't really worth doing. Ranging them would be your cheapest method.

So, you could just cancel them, or try to power through them with range and anti-fire pots.

Well obvously with soul split you can tank them, or anything non-boss (and some bosses, lol), but that's not really worth the trouble (either you flash, which takes concentration, or you keep it on, in which case protect is far better anyway).

I'm not sure if ranged beats mage even with only 46 mage, lol, but it'll be cheaper to range.

Nah protect is worse even if you dont flash, since you only have soul split on like 1/5th of the time (they really do not hit much).

But yeah at OP's level I'd just mage them, I remember trying to range them at like 80 range but that sucked hardcore. Or wait with 46 mage maybe range would be better, that or levelling mage to like 70 would be a good option too

Umm...yea...they barely hit you...you don't need to soul split that much. It's almost like you've never done it before.

Hmmm I did but I'm 87 defence/strength and 88 attack (at the time) and I never tried keeping it on (only flashing). I guess 99 def is a lot more than I thought or something.

Not sure if you've made any progress with your task yet, but consider bringing a cannon if you have it and can afford the cannonballs. It GREATLY speeds up the task. This estimate is likely slightly inaccurate, but I'd say irons are at least 3-4x faster with a cannon, if not more, if you are ranging.

You sure you hate that task? A little over a year ago, I was a lv77 quester with no stats under 50 and none over 75. I got the scary (for me) task of 70 iron drags. Using a variation of tip.it's guide, I finished the task in under 5hrs, making a profit of 12.65m. Surely if I can do that, you can have success. Best advice I can give you: keep an eye on prayer/antifires, and broad-bolt range'm...

@ last: combination of luck, and scoring 10m off the lv3 clue scroll I got off kill number 47

5 hours? Thats 10 kills an hour? Something seems off.

Oshmannj, you should probably just go with magic. Fire bolt with chaos gauntlets would probably be better than trying to range them with 60 range. If you don't have chaos gauntlets, I'm not sure though. As long as you have an anti-dragon shield and an antifire potion active, their firebreath can't hurt you if you stay at a distance, so it shouldn't be too dangerous. If you want, you can always skip the task, using slayer points or just going to the Burthrope slayer master.
