"Complicated names"

Featured Replies

So recently i've been in W2 in and around the Grand Exchange (also edgeville etc) And have seen alot of people hosting the flower game/dice bets with names like "IIIOOOXIIIXIII" or "IIiiIIiiIIiiII" These are presumably so that it makes it quite difficult for other players to report them when they scam - So I thought, what's a simple solution to this problem?

Simple enough, make players log in with the name they'e changed it too (Instead of their original log in name/email) This will most likely prevent SOME but not all, players from choosing difficult to get right names (I know if they're talking you could possibly scroll up to their name, but this is always difficult on W2 because of the amount of players talking.) (OR DON'T BET ON THESE GAMES?) I mean what?..

Any thoughts or views are welcome :^_^:

Wrong forum - this should be in suggestions?

It'd be a lot simpler if we could "right click" and choose to report someone.

If they have such names, it's an obvious scam. But really, it's a scam.

My lame drops:
6 Effigys
1 D Med - 1 D Dagger
1 Verac's Helmet - 1 Guthan's Platebody

people should be entitled to the freedom of choosing whatever name they want as long as it abides by the rules (no bad names and doesn't exceed x characters, etc)

it's up to people to be able to distinguish the difference between a scam and a legit game. any game where you have to give money first is 99% a scam. yesterday I doubled peoples money IN trade for the fun of it. Gave away 200M and dropped whips etc at the grand exchange, but realize I doubled money IN trade. Don't fall for these sort of scams. If it seems to good to be true, it usually is.

Sorry, Didn't think it through :wall: - And yeah, right click report would make it so much easier.

They sed to have right click report in RSC and they have it in WoW too. Idk why jagex doesnt make it more like that.

Pixel Signature Made By Me.

If they have those kind of names, then reporting them for breaking a rule such as scamming is going to be more of a struggle

so given that, most of the players with those names probably scam or do anything else fishy enough to catch your attention.

I don't either -- FunOrb also has right-click reporting... actually, if you click the "report abuse" button on FunOrb it will tell you to right-click the player's name instead, lol.

the report system is totally random so i don't really think it matters.

If you quote me please be sure to note that I'm extremely mad.

1) They're not THAT hard to get typed, right click then closely observe the letters and typing each letter in a notepad or something then switch and type from notepad to report screen.

2) As said before, if they have such a name it's a guaranteed scam tbh.

3) Names are easier to read if you trade them and look at the upper trade screen, it's what I do when staking, the staking screen also shows the name better with ilIL etc

ooh eeh ooh ahah, ting tang wallawallabingbang m8

Jagex doesn't care if people scam or get scammed. They won't do anything anymore. It's the golden age of RS.

Yeah OBVIOUSLY this is gonna fix the issue.

I mean its not like we had a good 8 or so years of runescape before display names arrived in which scammers coped perfectly fine with using hard to type names to log in with

Wow, don't flame me, just a suggestion

EDIT: I didn't say it would fix the issue AT ALL, I said it should prevent SOME people from choosing tricky names, jeez..

Tricky name, wait, huh? Usernames should be about freedom, and if I want my username to look like a sideways stickman, then I should be allowed to make it like that...

I agree, Give people to freedom to choose whatever they want, but once that's their name, they have to remember it to log in (Instead of their original name/email) It might prevent people from choosing tricky names to scam as they might find it difficult logging back in (IIiiiiIIiIIiiI) missing out an "I" etc.

Trust me, people are more then willing to spend some extra seconds to type in their name logging in, so for the next hours they can go ravage RS scamming, intruding official clan chats (world60pengs, etc) just to scam, flame or whatever they feel like (and no, we're not just going to let it fly over us, because we don't feel like).

The point here is, make reporting players a tad easier by offering some clicking ability. That way people that like sideway stick figures or whatever can remain happy, while total jerks whose creativity doesn't go further than to annoy others (including a hard to type name, no bloody way I'm spending my time to people like that, ticking out every syllable after close investigation into Notepad) can be removed from the game easier.

Right click report function would be nice and I guess wouldn't be too hard to implement...

But what I do, I just add the person to my friend or ignore list so I have a reference whilst reporting them.

Or just make all rs text copy/paste-able?

Would make a lot of things easier :)

P-mods can right-click to report can't they? It's been that way as long as I remember. And for as long as I can remember, people have suggested adding right-click reporting universally for all players.

Yet Jagex still hasn't implemented it.

To be blunt I doubt they ever will, for whatever reason they have.

The right click option will be better than typing in your new display name and it will be safer as well, because hacker will use your display name to try and hack your account.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think Jagex probably changed how a lower-case L is different from a upper-case I. This should make it easier to report botters.
