kriscius
Hi guys. So after a 2+ years break i started playing rs again. I have one silly question, that's been bothering me lately. After being back on the game, i noticed that most of the people have very high skills (people i have never met), when let's say 2 years ago only a few people would have this kind of high skills. What's up with that? And i know, it's a silly question, but meh, it doesn't hurt to ask, right?

SixFootOne
They have bonus xp weekends? What are they? How much more xp do you get on them? They are weekends where you gain more xp than you normally would for most activities. starts off at 2.7 times your normal xp and slowly lowers over time. Once you have played for 10 hours it drops to 1.1 times normal xp Edit: skill became easier to train because there are many new ways to train. For example we now have ivy, a way to train woodcutting to make it very afkable, and pretty fast xp.
L2Pullout
For the really bad skills like agility and runecrafting the large surge in 99s is most definetly from bots.
The Runar
Effigies. They're a rare drop from almost every monster; they give you 15-30k experience in four (random) non-combat skills if you have level 91+ and after that you get a lamp which gives you more xp in a skill of your choice. ilovecuttingyews
Another reason is the popularity increase in efficient training. More and more people are doing research into the very best ways to train skills and that style of play has seem to have taken off recently. My_Eggs
For the really bad skills like agility and runecrafting the large surge in 99s is most definetly from bots. Just because you don't enjoy a skill doesn't mean that a majority of the people who can get 99 in it are bots. I actually enjoy agility, and while getting 99 I didn't see a single bot doing the advaned barbarian course. I chatted with everyone I saw that was doing the course with me, and they all responded and held a conversation with me while we trained. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure most bots don't include the feature of being able to carry on a conversation with someone about completely random things. I'm not saying that there aren't agility and rcing bots, I'm just saying that a large sum of the 99s isn't entirely from bots. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. Jagex'd out of my untrimmed hp cape on 6/14/2011.

Effigys play a part but I believe the majority of players use their effigys on other things. Go look at one of those topics that compare 99 skills from past to now, there is a huge surge in 99s with no huge advantage in xp/hr outside of effigys. Effigys have also only been around for about a year now. Rc as a money maker is relatively low as well, making even less reason for a legit player to want to level it. No need to get offended because the 99 you got legit has been greatly devalued, I hate it too that nothing I do will mean much.

Iamfarming
Well a lot of skills were made to be much much faster than before. Things such as effigies also changed a lot due to them being rather easy to obtain and how much xp they provide.
