Question on Multi Logging

I know multilogging is illegal (which is a damn shame since I'd love to play on my f2p pure and my main at the same time). But I was wondering how Jagex differentiates multi logging from poeple logging in from the same IP. The reasoning is that both my brothers started playing recently and I noticed all of our computers have the same IP, and now im nervous we all might get banned since its the same IP

I'm not sure about you, but all my the IP addresses of devices in my house end in different numbers. For instance, the one I'm currently on ends with a 55, my brother's computer ends with 50 and my iPod's IP address ends with a 52.

I think the only time I've ever seen someone banned for multi-logging was when bots started first appearing and Jagex needed more reasons to ban the botters.

 

Obviously you are in no danger, if you do get banned, you could easily appeal it when they check the times that your accounts logged in together. If you're just fibbing to us (even though you already admit you multi-log) you're still in no danger (99%).

 

It's more about being rational. If the rule doesn't make sense to you, then you probably aren't its intended audience. Then again, rules are rules, you break it you buy it.

From my understanding, the multi-logging rule has a lot more to do with preventing interaction between a persons accounts than it does with being on at the same time. So my guess is that you're probably fine as long as you stay well and clear away from each other while you're online.

You can't report someone for multi-logging since regular users can't prove anything but Jagex is certainly capable of monitoring IP addresses. That being said, you probably won't get banned if your family also plays RS. Jagex would probably only consider banning you if there is extremely suspicious activity on the two accounts.

That's very likely because you're on a LAN with a private address range(10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, 192.168.0.0/16) NATed behind a gateway device.

Unless you have specifically requested multiple public addresses from your ISP, something like this probably shows the same address for all of those devices.

Surely Jagex would account for something like this before banning someone for multi-logging. Otherwise anyone with more than one computer and more than one person who plays would be screwed. Things like this must be what make it so hard to prove multi-logging.

Multi logging in my mind is when you log in via the unsigned applet (no longer exists) from a single physical computer. Obviously account interaction should be avoided but multiple people from the same home shouldn't be a problem.

Jagex CAN'T detect this, it's the way the internet works: jagex knows what IP adress it has to send the data too, than your router forwards the data to your PC. Jagex doesn't know anything behind a proxy.

I play at the same time as my brother does all the time, neither of us have been banned or anything. It's safe to have more than one account logged in on the same IP adress just as long as they aren't on the same computer, even then they probably won't ban you, but I wouldn't advise you do that anyway.

I think the general way Jagex monitors it is:

If 2 accounts from same ip on at same time but do not have simultaneous input.

Multiple users in 1 house can obviously all play at the same time or separate times; but 1 user trying to puppet 2 accounts at the same time you'd have 1 get input then the other.

I've seen people being banned for it. You've nothing to worry about if it's just you and your brother playing separate accounts. But don't think that means you're safe if you login on two accounts.

 

Also, if you suspect someone of multi-logging (Likely case is them admitting it), they can be reported Under "Encouraging Rule Breaking."

The main rsk that you are taking is that is NOT allowed to transfer your stuff between 2 accounts logged in with the same ip adres. (i find that odd) Why is it not allowed to donate stuff to your brother where it is allowed to donate stuff to your neighbours?

 

Still it is not allowed. becarefull with it and when you are braking this rule, don't talk about it in game cause that will fall under "Encouraging Rule Breaking." by showing off how easy for you it is to brake them

eh you can still donate stuff to your siblings just don't have it where it looks like it's one person hopping between 2 comps. (i.e. don't have one account do a lot of moving while the other is just sitting there, with no interaction at all.. it looks suspicious to jagex lol)
