Kimberly Posted January 20, 2012 Share Posted January 20, 2012 Clan and Friend Chats were created as safe alternatives to things like Skype and mIRC. They were great when they first came out, and they're still getting better--but there's one issue that hasn't been resolved through the many updates the chat systems have seen. Chat statuses, whether a person is busy or actively chatting, aren't evident. Quick mock-up:(ignore the MS paint fails, I suck) Green - Active Yellow - BusyRed - Private (no one knows if you're active or busy, has no hover-over) What determines "Active":-Spoke within the past 10 minutes What determines "Away":- Personally set via chat options (manual set)- Auto setting after 10 minutes of not chatting- Auto setting if booted to lobby after 5 min of not clicking What determines "Private":- Personally set in either Chat Options You would also be able to hover over the status icon to see how long they've been online for similar to the way you can hover over their location spot to see what world they're in and what jagex game they're playing. (ignore the crappy overlay, MSPaint sucks and has no transparency) But why is this necessary? It's not #1 priority, I know. It's something I always wanted to see though. Chat moderators of active FC communities might sympathize here, having dealing with rulebreakers and no moderators are active. And since you join FC's by default if you've joined one in the past, you might easily forget you're in there--but no one else knows that. Meh! That's my suggestion. BTW, not to seem spooky, but if I could hug you for this IRL, I would. :) About the only thing I could think of to add would be a 'Custom Status Text' field. That way, someone could post a thought, what they're up to, and/or even a reason to not bug them at the moment. Also, there could be options for showing "total online time, this session" and/or "time since last status change", so a user can control which timer is being shown to others, should there be such an option. Beyond that, the idea's pretty much perfect. :-k On the side, Kimberly, you should go get GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) to add to your painting tools. It would help you a lot with those image mock-ups, among other things. |^_^| Oh, and before I forget, I SUPPORT!!! :thumbsup: ~Mr. D. V. "This would do well to be added to Friend/Clan chats."
