Archi, they use actual blades, axes, spears, and bows.. With all they're shiney, sharp cutting/stabbing/killing bits intact. I think that the lump of foam would be an insult.

As someone who owns a small assortment of blades, I would advise getting her a decorative set for display purposes. That way they won't become worn with use. If you're feeling loose with your pockets, buy her a set to use as well that is durable. :)

And then every guy was disproved.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Pfft. Not me; Fura's just as weird as the rest of us.

I see nothing weird with having a fascination with bladed weaponry. :P I actually find the Katana to be a beautiful work of art, rather than a tool for killing. :)

Well the way with the Japanese, everything is beautiful AND efficient. So you could look at it and still kill with it. :P

Very true. My personal favs would be the Katana, Kusari-gama and the Naginata. I only own one of those three though. *sad panda*

One of my friends has three katanas. Hanging above a water bed.

I'd much prefer a traditional Claymore any day of the week. Or a gladius.

Actually, scratch that. Falchion.

Yeah, never really saw the big deal about Japanese weaponry. That's a lie, I used to be obsessed with it, then I stepped back for a few weeks and wondered why I thought it was so cool. Never did find the answer to that, but I think it was probably because I used to be one of those people who thought that the japanese had perfect culture and tradition and nothing could beat them.

It's fun watching ignorant people trying to load crossbows.

Aside from that... Morningstar, or perhaps a Bearded Axe. I like long-handle weapons. Daggers are cool too.

And Jeremiah, the reason Japanese weapons are held high in regard is because people tend to be awestruck when they see masters using them. Japanese weapons fighting, seemingly along with many Japanese arts, is trained to an unparalleled degree. A skilled warrior wielding a well made Katana can slice through the torsos of five people standing side-by-side. That was, in fact, both a common method for grading weaponry and a creative use for prisoners.

If I were to pick by efficiency, the bow and arrow, as well as sword and shield (as long as its steel idc what kind lol)

My adoration for Japanese weaponry comes more from the artistic style of the weapon, a weapon when used correctly, paints a wonderful picture upon the battlefield :)

(You now realise you just called me Jeremiah)

Anyway, Nex, what I thought of as soon as you said that...

(Warning, may be offensive to some)

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/katanas-are-underpowered-in-d20

In actual fact, while the act of forging the swords themselves may have been honed to an art due to the poor quality of japanese iron ore (They had to use it very efficiently), the swords themselves are not better than a well crafted medieval European sword. You get these people saying that it's possible to cut through a knight in full medieval armour with a katana, but it's a complete myth. The whole "Katanas are just better" came from anime and video games from Japan, I would imagine, where the tradition was placed into these mediums, bought to the western world, and then massively exaggerated to form the current belief that a katana could bisect two cars, five horses, a million brick walls and kill several superheroes before even taking a dent.

Yes, they may be elegent, and I can respect that, but I'd prefer a fencing foil in terms of elegency anyway.

To each their own, I suppose, though.

Ross, media representation is irrelevant. The reason the katana worked so well, and correct me if I'm wrong, was that if the appropriate technique was used it slaughtered anyone with light or no armour. And it seems like feudal Japan was very reliant on militias, hence such a fluid fighting style with a light and sharp blade allowed trained, outnumbered warriors to strike down multiple foes before they could get a shot in. This is completely uninformed of course, just a collection of observations.

A modern day Katana is lethal as all hell though, and just, if not more, prettyful than those of old ^.^

Meh, iussualy prefer the bow and arrow arangement, with daggers and knives. I've gotten over my obsession with axes, for practicality.

Magma Flow Vs. Demons. WHICH SHALL WIN?!?

On-topic: Yeah.... Nothing beats a good ol' fashioned nuke. And when they're too close to use a nuke, you obviously didn't use your nukes well enough.

Still, in that scenario, it's probably time to break out the napalm.

If we're talking about preferred medieval weapons; I think I'll take the bill hook.

[hide]polearm2.jpg[/hide]

Now, you may ask "why" as to why would I take such a silly looking weapon. Well the answer being that it

A: Has a cutting surface which allows me to chop like an ax giving it utility against your average un-armored peasant or the occasional armored horseman's un armored horse.

B: Has a point which can be used against armored opponents (let's see a sword poke through plate armor [though it would probably be a better idea to use the ax blade aside from against charging cavalry)

C: Has a hook that allows me to trip and or maneuver enemies using their own armor ex: pull someone off of a horse, or simply trip them with said hook or possibly even trip their horse.

D: Comes on a 5-8' pole which may or may not cut out some of the danger of close combat (or at the very least let me wound the guy coming at me before he gets to me).

Oh and if I can I will take an arming sword as well

[hide]_wsb_570x437_IMGP3542.JPG[/hide]

for when I have to get into close combat.
