Moral question..

I don't know if this is the right forum for this or if there even is a forum for this so don't blame me for that :)

Here's the deal:

I'm not really a very rich person, and almost all of my wealth is my precious whip.

I was planning to buy an obsidian shield aswell but a friend told me I'd be better off killing the TzHaar to get one as a drop.

So we went to the volcano and started killing them.

At some point my friend asks me if he can use my whip to kill them...

I hesitate because, as stated above, its about all I have of value...

Plus the fact that my nephew, who plays this game aswell, got scammed and hacked by a so-called 'friend', didn't really convince me to give it to him...

I told him I'd rather not give it to him at this point, and he started insulting me, put me on ignore and logged off...

I want to know what you think, did I do the right thing to not give it or should I have trusted him anyway ?

You did the right thing, unles its a friend you know would never do anything to make you mad or to do any harm to you ( and if you know him irl) then the right answer is no dont worry if that was immoral

I don't know him irl, it was just someone who I met while fletching and to who I talked once in a while.

I didn't really know him well..

He was going to steal from you. You did the right thing a real friend does not put you on ignore for not leting them use a 3mil wepon. He is the type of person that ought to become a human cannonballIt would nock some scence into himor kill him ether one is ok.

Like everyone else said, he was going to call that whip his if you let him borrow it.

The only people I have ever let borrow stuff in MMO's are my friend Jairyn and my buddies on ventrillo, and then people I've known for a long time :).

You did the right thing. No shame in not trusting someone you don't think you can (or should) trust.

And by the way he acted... He simply wanted you to hand it over for its value.

Had you have given him the whip... he would have teled, placed you on ignore, and you would've probably never seen him or the whip ever again.

So yeah, good call.

You did the right thing....

I only really trust 1 person in the game, i've know him from the first week i was playing.

With all the other people, 90% of my friends on rs are from miniclip forums, and jagz. If they stole something they'd have alot of people to deal with....

back when i had a phat, this guy kept following me if he could try it on and take a screenie, that was when yellows were like 7m. Probably was gonna log off. unrelated, but selling a phat for cash and not planning on merchanting is a horrible feeling, cause u know price will rise.

Yep, you pretty much explain it in your post, if he got pissed off that you wouldnt let you borrow it, and threw a fit, then you dont need friends like him anyway. I myself can't see myself keeping a whip someone lended me, cuz i would never asked someone lto lend me a whip, unless i was in dire need. also, i would feel like a terrible person scammin someone like that.

Ive lent my IRL freinds guthan torag whip etc... you can trust your irl freinds :D

Not always. When I was lvl 50 and just got members my income was close to 10k a day because I did not know how to earn money fast back then went to the wild and lost 100k to my friend. A few weeks ago I lent a friend another rune hally because I wanted to help a friend pass a quest and she never gave it to him so there goes another one. The funney part is that they were both related to each other.

I think you did the right thing. If he got mad and put u on ignore or logged, then he obviousely wasnt a true friend anyways and he was probably planning on taking it.

Theres only 2 people I trust on RS with my valueables. But i have known them 3+ years now. Plus that fact that one has almost as much as me, so he has no reason to steal, and the other has way more then i could imagine (shes had over 80 drag drops alone  ), plus shes one of the games top players, so she has no reason to take from me.

Those are my only 2 friends I truely trust on rs, and i have trusted them with valuables b4 (one fo them over 100 m when i thought someone knew my pw).

For the most part, you shouldnt trust anyone of RS tho.

A couple month ago, my friend got a Whip. He worked long and hard for it. His friend asked him to borrow it, to try it out. Next thing you know, the "friend" stole it. And this friend was a high lvl - 100 something - too.

i recently lent my whip out to a friend who i know fairly well, and who i have trusted with rare items several times before. he was going to keep it for a day or two while i trained my range, but his computer broke and i had to go without a whip for over a week before he could get to the library and trade it back. lending out a whip just isnt a good idea, even if its to someone you trust. and its an especially bad idea if you dont trust the person and they have a history of getting hacked.
