Is Runescape getting ahead of itself?

Featured Replies

Well, first of all I know it doesn't say that it is midevil, so before you try to prove me wrong and say "oo, your a noob because you didn't read the whole 10 1/2 pages of the rules blah blah." Listen please...

What I want to say is that, most of the new items in the game are spoiling the game. Because in my vision and thought of the game is midevil. What I mean by getting ahead of itself is:

Example 1:

Camo... Back in thoes days, of England and the kings when they actually had armour "midevil times" I haven't seen one person with camo. I belive most of these items should be resigned and replaced with new.

I'm sure most of you know alot of items like this like the gadderhammer, colorful, maul rip off...

The more realistic the game is, the better in my point of view. Everything is getting commercial now adays.

Thank you for your time. (This probably belongs in rants?)

Do you mean medieval times or what? You think that the modern items in game don't fit in game?

You missed the point that the game takes place in a fantasy world, thus doesn't have to be connected with real world in any way.

It's fantasy.

Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(

Pretty much, but the more realist the better in my point of view.

In every history book i've read there were mages and giant dragons.

If you want a realistic game, play something else

I see what you're getting at, and i personally think that too.

its good how runescape is in medivial times and based that way but some of the new things have made it sort off unrelistic a little sad i believe lol :P

but yes i think that why runescape is quite popular as it is, but jagex try making even better by putting more modern things in which dont fit.

Sorry i guess sarcasm doesn't translate over the computer very well...

Ding! Ding! Thats right.

I'm off to second period.. take care maby we can discuss more later.

many people do not realize weapons thta you can get from quests. for example, everybody who has read the mourner's end part 1 quest guide or has done the quest like me will know that there is a frog firing bazooka! That is definately not midevil

Doing a little bit of everything

Any of you ever heard of FUN? Guess not...

Camo is in the game for FUN, not meant to be serious. They didn't have Mimes back in Midievil times either, doesn't mean they can't be in a FANTASY game.

Midevil- Medium evil? Midievil - Midi files that are evil?

Medieval?

Combat 116+; Total 1900+; All Hard Tasks; (Nearly) All quest points; (Nearly) All skills 60+; An aquatic moose ninja.

Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. Interruptions of agility when I feel like it, as well.

And lucky enough to get 4 Dragon and 6 Barrow Drops.

[hide]Kwimbob now looks exactly like me in real life except for hair color. Yes, this means I look exactly like the protagonist of that certain anime that my second character, Faye_V is also named after. Yes, I bought a jacket that also looks like his. No in real life I don't have a slain bear to sling over my shoulders. Yes, I'm that skinny even if I no-life it for years in basements. No, I can't shoot a gun. Yes, I can win any other strategic video game you have never played - because I probably have, ahahaha. And yes, I also have brown eyes, yet one of my eyes looks different from the other. And yes, I'm completely oblivious to the [real] world around me as I constantly engineer new solutions to daily problems in my head. When I get hungry, all that isn't food can wait. When I'm sleepy - nothing is of any priority in front of sleep. But at any other time, I never slow down. Never give up. Never Surrender. Makes for a good life.

I know duh o.O I was just annoying over spelling.. *Goes and check sig*

Very well, we'll need to remove all the monsters and npcs that are not "realistic" including goblins, dragons, unicorns, giants, ogres, skeletons and ghosts. That should leave us with a lovely array of villagers, barbarians, knights, chickens and cows to kill. Then we'd have to remove any weapons and armour that were not "realistic" - nothing over steel then which would make smithing over level 50 redundant, and forget about dragonhide of any sort for rangers. We needn't worry about mage armour because there would be no mages, since magic isn't "realistic". No magic would mean we could also kill the runecrafting skill (which would make people wonder why it was called "Runescape"). No magic or dragonhide would make crafting useless as a skill. Farming would need to be made more "realistic" by making your crops take 6 - 12 months to grow. The sea voyage from Port Sarim to Karamja should take four hours instead of 20 seconds. Etc, etc, etc...

Leave it the way it is. If I want "realistic" I won't play an online fantasy game.

Runescape isn't a medieval game. It is a world of it's own which has no set date. Jagex proclaimed this aswell and to clearly rebute

The more realistic the game the better

Hmm, I don't see you going out and killing people for no reason now do I? I dont see you training your skills to be the master of all do I? Games are created to breach the lines of reality, not to walk with them

oo, your a noob because you didn't read the whole 10 1/2 pages of the rules blah blah!!

But seriously... I agree with you seventy nine and one half percent on this one! The other 20 and a half percent only because that part of my brain isn't functioning this morning... I had this same thought though so don't think you're the only one... however... JAGeX has the ULTIMATE authority as to what they add... and if no one uses what they add, so be it :P. I don't like the cannon personally, but I guess I'll get over that.

And for those of you freaking out about "realism" what he meant was... keep it in the same era.. in the medieval times there were a lot of myths of dragons and goblins and such.

Again though let me reiterate... as much as I would have liked them to stay in the same era... I'm not gonna stop playing because they introduced a few "weird" (for lack of a better word) items.

and in the medevil times they didnthave noobs, hax0rs or spammrs !!

I dont think Simon Schama could have put it any better :)

Why is 'common sense' so named, when there is so little of it about?

Welcome to puberty, we've been expecting you.

Lol, are you serious? Runescape is not a medieval game. It's fantasy. Deal with it or don't play it.

Reality isn't the same as myths. There were no dragons and goblins back in the medieval times either.

firstly, i dont normaly critises this, but what happened to spelling? Do you mean medeval? And do you mean re-designed? It changes the meaning of what you are saying. Furthermore, whats with the obssesion with England - i hate to destroy the american camelot fantasy, but there were other countries (france and the federation of states now known as Germany) that were very similar in the broad un-academic cheme of things. Camoflauge was around at the time, just not in europe. In India and the far east, the idea of camoflauge, or the concept of blending into the background, was reasonably prevelant. The most often used example would be the ninja, who wore black to blend into the shadows. Camoflauge similar to that seen in the game was in use in india, with dirty, mudy colourations. FInanly, like everyone else has said, it's a game...it's not real, don't go the way of marteen if they don't turn camo into damasked battle armor.

Let's cover the bases here. What were basically talking about here is what is called "anachronism". Anachronism is when something, be it a book, movie, game, anything references something ahead of the time period of the setting. Like making a game based in medieval times but then sticking in laserbeams.

And as was mentioned before, the game is fantasy. If it was really supposed to be accurately medieval do you think they'd put things like runecrafting, unicorns, and whips that just happen to be more destructive than cannons in it? I doubt it. It's fantasy set in a medieval frame of mind. It's very loosely medieval.

In every history book i've read there were mages and giant dragons.

Isn't history real? Don't try to attempt to get ahead of yourself now :D

Didn't Animal Planet prove that dragons might have exsisted?

1. I think that was discovery channel thoguh I could be wrong, and 2. RATINGS!!! rofl Dragons didn't exist
