PumpkinPete112
Ive been noticing on f2p alot lately I mean as old as Romeo and Juliet OF any1 examined Fortunato it says: "Looks like he could do witha sip of Amontillado: I find this funny since i just got done reading the short story "The Cask of Amontillado" where fortunato gets taken to his death place and hung there under the pretext" To taste some amontillado" I found it interesting Also Fortunato is the Antichrists 2nd hand man in the Left Behing Series Sig
Kewl_Sabre
Yea, I've noticed this. They seem to like to mock things in well-known books or stories.

dogfever
A truth universally acknowledged is that programmers love sticking random cultural references and other easter eggs into their programs. This is not limited to game programs either, I work with a particularly boring piece of command line based software handling matrices and statistics which produces random sentences if the word 'why' is inserted into the command line (not as funny as it might be but a couple of hours tinkering in the code produces much more satisfying results). I guess after hours of implementing java swing or whatever code you prefer you have to let off steam somehow. I have seen a few references even in my brief experience of RS2 although what they were escapes me.
RincewindSW
I found this 5 minutes agowhen I examined a rat that I thought was a bird (or something...). I was informed that it was "a popular dwarven delicacy", which I am rather sure is a homage to the dwarves of the Discworld series!
Satenza
Theres a Pulp Fiction reference in Underground Pass quest. The ezikiel:17 speech. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
Lord_K
Mr Jekyll and Mister Hyde, Frekenstrain for example. Apart from literacy referances its full of film, TV, and other games references too. They like to reward the casual examiner.

I'm still going what. It is highly unlikely it was named after the song imo. http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?s=schism&gwp=13 If it was it'd be a pretty obscure and oblique reference. LordSoultar
There are so many Monty Python references in Miscellania it's untrue. Monty Python references are just about everywhere. Astucio
There is also, of course, the infamous Robin Hood lurking in an unlikely pub in Port Phasmatys. It's quite funny to see all of these references, although, some people just don't get it. I have come across a few people who see them and they know that they are references to certain outside things and they blame jagex for not being very creative because they 'steal' or 'change a little bit' the name of something else because they can't think of anything themselves  Never mind... Though, I have to say, calling some islands Miscellania and Etceteria isn't exactly cutting edge :D
