Stallion4589
very good article there. i know what you mean about how turning up to the macroers is both frustrating and rewarding. to see the crown pop up and many people all log out at once. every time i am in varrock i take a trip to the yews and rune essence. normally 20+ autoers at a time. its really sad how people feel the need to make money off a computer game (shame on you jagex ) but seriously, if your "sources" are correct (id also like to know who your sources are), its a very sad state of affairs to have what is essentially slave labour harvesting runescape gold. what is the world coming to? yurpsie
I don't deny that the majority of autoers are chinese but what I don't like is how everyone changes their point of view towards chinese and asians. Today, when I was playing Runescape, I saw a group of people talking about how bad the chinese are yadda yadda yadda... Yes...there are some Asians that makes the game terrible and fustrating BUT, there are also Asians who play the game honestly and working hard to achive high skills and such. In fact, these hardworking ones and the ones that GET THEIR OWN RESOURCES and are sulf-sufficent. They rarely buy raw materials as they get them all on their own. So, please don't think that ALL Asians are really bad and are exploiting the game, some of us are really honest and WE HATE AUTOERS TOO.

chris1216
Another thing we should be figuring out is who exactly is supplying the demand for all the gold bought with real life cash.
JIMMIE
I would be chuffed if they ended F2P, even if rare prices and raw material costs did rise. It would mean: 1. Lots more servers for P2P. 2. More updates/tweaks/changes (more P2P players, hopefully). 3. Alot less autoers etc. who usually only stick to F2P anyway. Also, other good things would come from this, Jimmie. shade_bandyt
the demand for cash is natural. runescape players, especially members, are a lucrative market for anybody. they have funds to spend on something as unnecessary as an online game, they are net savvy, and they are young and competitive. if im a teen that pays for my own membership, and i see my friend with a whip and full dragon, then ill want that too. and if i cant get the cash buy skilling for 40 hours, ill buy the gp with real cash and get that instantly Are you a member with a full bank and cancelling your subscription? I don't necessarily believe information from disreputable (in this case, semi-unknown) sources, and I don't expect you to justify your sources. And about the Chinese workers, I'm not usually empathetic on these issues. I don't care if they've no other means of making money. anonymouse_
There is no stop to this. If they end F2P, they'll just move to P2P. If they ban all Chinese IPs, they just use a proxy. It will not be until ppl quit buying GP for real money that all this will end, and lets be honest: this will not happen anytime soon...
gonzlar
This is the nature of your typical autoer. I've heard from a reliable source (and you'll really have to trust me on this reliable source) that over 95 percent of these autoers are from China. They work in large factories, sometimes by the hundreds, thousands, for a meagre 60 cents an hour. This is why they often have Chinese names. Heh. I don't believe they would be autoers if they actually had people manning the computers as they "autoed". The self-proclaimed king of bronze. homer806
It is really hard to believe that all the people that we think of as autoers are actually people and not programs. If you really pay attention to their behavior it is easy to see that they don't act like people. For example, it is easy to confuse them by closing the door at the yews in edgeville. any person, even if they don't speak english, could figure out to open the door. and when they die by tree spirits. i would think that anyone would know that when all the green is gone and replaced by red and you go away that that is bad. kwimbob
(Only read topic post) Jagex is making their huge update including new anti-Autoer programs. I believe the reason that the autoing problem has gotten so out of hand as of late was because they were preoccupied with preparing this update. It shows more confidence that when they release the update that it will be very strong in this way. Hopefully this update will harm the business that you described. I know that individuals can still be enslaved in these sweat shops, but the business will become less profitable and will maybe begin to weaken. There is still the responsibility of all others to stop the gold buying IRL as you said, though, and there always will be. Again, though, Jagex also mentioned being able to track the "marked money" and this will also help in the effort to get rid of the buyers and give less reason for the sellers to keep their business up. You didn't read the topic very well. There are tons of autoers that are computers. The efficient autoer businesses use the human labor to have autoer controllers that control some of the autoers, sell the items for gp, and so on. All the little autoers are programs, but the businesses that sell the gp are still using human labor to control the autoers and the business. Seriously, all you people that go off on autoers and say they should rot in hell should once again realize that this is a COMPUTER GAME. Sweet jesus, I've never seen people take something so trivial so seriously. If you want to get pissy about something, why don't you consider the genocide occuring in Darfur at the moment. Now THAT is something worth getting angry about. People dying > pixels. And by the way- who are they manipulating, anyways? Did they hypnotize you into creating demand for yews? Did they perhaps come to people's houses and force them to buy GP for real money at gunpoint? Get over yourselves. The problem is not autoers, the problem is the people that cause the demand for gp paid with by real money. Edit- There is a 99 percent chance that if you have bought yew logs, they were macroed. Now, knowing that, will you continue to buy yew logs? Knowing that it supports the autoers? I'd love you people on your high horses to answer that one. And no pathetic excuse like "if i don't buy them someone else will" either.

jak722
The game, sadly enough. And where on earth is the ANGER about autoers coming from, anyways? Heres a few reasons... -They crowd resources like wood and coal -They flood the market with huge amounts of items -They allow someone to lvl up with ALOT less effort than a person who honestly put time and effort -People often relate macro programs with hackers -They are illegal, yet are almost always in the faces of people who feel they cant do anything about them... Among other reasons anyway. :? The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. hurl
Yeah man, last night me and my friend were bored so we went to edge yews and started reporting autoers and closing doors on them so that they couldn't bank and I noticed the handful of chinese names. 123 Combat / 1900 Skill Total / 99 HP / 7x 99 Stats
RAHK
Edit- There is a 99 percent chance that if you have bought yew logs, they were macroed. Now, knowing that, will you continue to buy yew logs? Knowing that it supports the autoers? I'd love you people on your high horses to answer that one. And no pathetic excuse like "if i don't buy them someone else will" either. This is a perfect example of why I do not purchase large quantities of autoable goods regardless of their low prices. I will purchase tons of d bones for example but will never buy over 1k yews from a single individual. I know that buying from somebody that is selling 500k ess or 100k yews is most likely an autoer and choose not to support them. I have several friends that do the same. The article is disgusting on every level not to mention quite disturbing. Now ending autoers also has another huge bonus of lessening the appeal of sweatshop labor (to a small extent). If they simply took a lot of little steps to make autoing less appealing then I think that the problem would solve itself until the demand for ill-gotten gp goes up enough to make it worthwhile again. Keeping the price of 1mil gp as high as possible does two very good things on the buying side: 1. Makes those who purchase it have to pay more cash per 1mil. 2. Makes it less appealing to buy it since the real cash cost is so very high. Since nothing will entirely defeat autoers I think that the closest we can come to victory is to drive the price of 1mils upwards of $50 US each. Only then will it start to suffer immensely on the demand side.
