DragnFly
The thing I don't get is, what business is it of anybodys but the people in a relationship to begin with? Its quite common that I hear people hurling insults, trying to start something where it is not needed. Atleast they are playing their game, minding their own business where as the people who dare to stick their nose in are too busy trying to dictate how others should play instead of worrying about how they themselves want to play the game. Are there scams out there involving this? Absolutely. Are they easy to spot? Yes. Avoiding these so called "relationship scams" is quite easy. If some stranger whom you never met walks up, and asks "will you be my gf/bf", then you can pretty much guarantee its a scam. Not everyone who has an relationship in RS is a scammer. There are players whom have been friends for quite awhile, perhaps its done for roleplaying purposes, or perhaps they are developing real feelings for one another. There are many reasons why people in RuneScape get into relationships, which I touched upon a month or so back here. Making rules to protect people from their own stupidity just breeds and encourages stupidity, it doesn't resolve the problem. I'm not saying wrong-doers should not be punished because they should, but I am saying stop relying blindly on the rules to protect you from everything bad that can happen. It does not exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out how to avoid things like this. Its very similar to scamming, luring, and keyloggers. Apply alittle common sense, and educate yourself and you will be safe. Making a rule against relationships in RuneScape only stops the legitimate ones, not the scammers. in some ways, it can essentially be item scamming. i do not believe that any "relationships" over runescape are genuine, and i think jagex should do something to prevent people from being hurt by this. Former pieces on the RuneScape homepage: 29th January 2003 - In low HP,and in health It had to happen eventually. When 200,000 people interact online, it can only be a matter of time before someone pops the question... We heard from PugXSi, a veteran of Runescape who is currently 4th overall with 1473 total stats. At 99 in magic and 96 in firemaking, there was still one stat that seemed to be eluding him: romance. Then Runescape "gave me something I didn't think possible- eternal happiness with a fantastic woman." The woman in question was Jenstarr, a regular of the Dwarven mines. PugXSi soon noticed that she was a bit handy with a pick. "She worked extremely hard to become a rune miner...I hadn't seen such devotion to a skill before." Sensing that they had struck gold, the two miners would chat online for hours. "It didn't take me long to develop real feelings for her", and an in-game marriage duly followed. Some time later, PugXSi flew from England to the U.S. to meet Jenstarr in person. A second trip took place at Christmas, but it was more than just santa hats that were up for grabs. On January 3rd PugXSi and Jenstarr got married at a local courthouse. "Runescape is the sole factor in bringing Jen and I together, and for that, Jagex will always have our gratitude." Don't thank us, PugXSi, thank the magic of the runes. Jen happens to be a friend of mine. While i've never got to know Pug personally, hes always seemed like a good guy as well. 29th January 2003 - Runescape romance turns real Yet more wedding bells! So Runescape rings DO have special properties. "I started playing 8 months ago...The last thing I was looking for was another relationship, especially via an internet game. But find one I did, or it found me..." Lady Pooh met Topcat0711 whilst playing Runescape, and being more charming than the seven hundred odd Topcats that had preceeded him, they soon became trading partners. An act of chivalry took the relationship to a whole new level. "One day he'd won a stake duel... because of the winnings I teasingly said 'hey wanna be my rs bf?' not meaning it... But after that we joked about it and kept talking, until we fell in love through Runescape and got to know each other better." Lady Pooh, who hails from Ohio in the USA, is now set to become Mrs.Topcat0711. She even flew over to his native Australia, swapping server-lag for jet-lag to be with her new love. "I've been here in Australia for 6 weeks now and we get along great! We are making long term plans and its all thanks to you! We just wanted you to know that you created more than just a game...it's a connection to life and happiness." So it's official then: Cupid does exist. As an NPC in Runescape. If you need to see the news from someone more official to prove it was listed, go here. It was removed awhile back, I suppose because they are discouraging people from exchanging personal information nowadays. Role_Model
I approve, yet disapprove. Those stories are really cool, about how they meet up like that, :3> , anyways, but the noobs who are just in it for money shouldn't be allowed. It's just lame. Ways to make money: Merchanting, PKing, Staking, Cyberring... back to rs, i guess. it's been 4 months. RSN:P H Osho <- gonna start on him soon, fresh. Kill_Life
I hate it  How come low lvl players ask to be their boyfriend when I'm on my lvl 87 Main with Santa (wich is quite high in F2P). But they never ask my low lvl Pure? Maybe because he isn't RICH? When they ask me: "Wanna be my bf?" I mostly aswer as a joke: "No ty, i already have a bf!" Hehehe... Dalcyte
Personally i think its ridonculous...just strange that you'd want to be a bf and/or gf with someone on the internet soley and not on an online dating service. But i'm against banning it. Why? i know it can be used as a method of scamming, but its people's choice! They can do what they want...its not like any other type of scamming...you consider giving the money away, not accidently. If people wanna do that for a gf thats probably a guy...so be it. How would they enforce such a rule anyway...it'd be stupid. I know all you people think its disgusting and just wrong and stupid...but some people are crazy enuf to say and think its not...so let them be. Hey, it's also always a funny story when a obvious guy pretending to be a girl says ur hot and wants to be ur gf :) Click for mah Blog!- I'm not sure why you would though because i never update it Achieved 99 Thieving 3/10/07-992nd to it
heart_of_ink
Well, if you wanna throw away your hard-earned pixels for some girl who claims she's 20 but is actually 12, be my guest. I knew this guy who got "Married" in runescape. The next day, his wife blocked him and took a bunch of items that he lent her. There's no sig here. Move it along... MNH
Runescape is only a game not a place for making relationships. If you want to make a relationship with somebody you can use chat rooms or whatever you call it! ... So pathetic when people ask a question about "G/f & B/f" in Runescape. MetalGator
Bf/Gf is sickening. I remember when I was members for about 2 months, some random person with a random name asked me to be their Bf. I played along for a bit. As soon as the person asked for stuff, I blocked and I teled as far away as possible.
Stallion4589
if people want to have online relationships, then there is no problem. let them do what they want. what IS a problem is when someone stands in varrock square saying "need a rich bf/gf" repeatedly. that should not be allowed. Arcticrunite
Why do i see SO many topics on this discussion? All of them contain spam about "Omg i hate general couples because i can never see myself loving anyone", and flames "Omg you noob get a life, you cant get laid lolz noob", and some actual opinions "I disagree with the concept of online relationships yadda yadda yickity yack". This is stupid! I've had enough of all the general bashing of women in runescape. Women in Rs are not all prostitutes hanging around the corner turning tricks for a rune long. There are some women in there that generally play the game and enjoy it. There are some women that actually DO find love on games such as this. There are alot of great runescape couples in the game. While im not going on rattling off couples off the top of my head, there are the few that DO love each other. I myself have found love on the game. I love the woman im with and weve been playing rs since 2003 together. Honestly if i see another topic pertaining the general bashing of rs couples im going to bash someones freakin head off. FrankyBrown
I am not going to say I approve of the item scamming, trust games, and sexual parts (mostly just censor abuse because thats all you can really do) of online dating. However, if something does not affect me than I see no need to complain about it or mock it. All too often I see a couple in Runescape being made fun of by other members of the community just because they say they have intimate feelings for each other. Why does this has to happen? Why do people feel the need to go on a power trip everytime they see something they do not agree with? Now I have personally have met two couples that genuinely 'love' each other and are all good friends of mine. Each of the couples have met each other in real life on multiple accations (yes they are older than 18 and no I do not approve of minors doing this). I can obviously see how most people can knock off each online couple as hollow do to alot of the mishaps that happen in Runescape (mostly item scamming), but through my own experiences I have found that they are all not all like that. I hate it when people just go with the flow and let their brains turn to mush. Think for yourselves and do not always go with the stereotypical views that often the easy way out. +1 If you don't like it just ignore it, don't have to show your insecurity by posting everywhere 'OMG LYK U NOOB NO LYF I GOT LIKE 99GFS IRL AND HAVE SEX EVERY MIN LAWL!!1111ONEONE'

Not everyone who has an relationship in RS is a scammer. There are players whom have been friends for quite awhile, perhaps its done for roleplaying purposes, or perhaps they are developing real feelings for one another. Yeah some random people on the street of varrok who go around asking you to be there gf are mostly scammer, but thats how i meet my best runescape friend. She was going around asking complete strangers to be her bf. In the end she came to me i said no but we kept each other added and now we are best friends. We do have feelings towards each other becuase we have known each other for along time maybe a year or so. We miss each other when the other isnt on for a while. Relationships definetly shoudlnt be banned, scammers will use other methods to scam if they have to. Its up to the player to spot a real relationship and a hollow one. Try and know abit about your freinds, try and get an idea about what their like. Jagex shouldnt be held responsible for the relationships that go on in their game. If the players want to do it then thats fine let them. But about the boys being girls thing, its amazing how many of the female players are boys. One of my friends that i though was a girl turned out to be a guy when his friend logged in on and accidently told me to much. But yeah try and know your friends dont go up to random people they might be a guy who had just changed to a girl to do the recruitment drive quest. I was about to do it when two guys came up and started bugging me to be their gf then i told them i was a guy and they called me "noob!!!" and embaressed me infront of the bank before i could explain. Shyla
this is just my opinion, don't flame. apparently, people in rs who engage in that bf/gf stuff has a different idea bout online relationships. u go to varrock, stand by the fountain then just shout "need bf/gf"..count to 10 and 70-90% of the time someone will say "i'll be ur bf/gf." count another 10 seconds and they'd mostly likely call each other "baby" or some other term of endearment. it gets weirder when they say "i love you" albeit meeting each other just a minute ago. it's disturbing really, both in-game and irl. in-game, as a lot of u have stated, it's just another scam. usually low levels do this, or i could be wrong..tho i haven't seen a level 80+ do this. only shows how greedy people are. they want fast cash, cool items etc. in exchange they'd tell you sweet hollow words. dude how low can you go? there's so many ways to earn money..and why be so greedy? it's just a game. irl, i do believe that their behavior in-game pretty much reflects how they are in real life. tho you say it's only a game, again why do you have to scam? scamming is deception, don't you know the graveness of your act? if you're gonna go scamming people, why do it under an artful or simulated semblance of relationship? do you not know the gravity of the word "love"? i don't think it's even worthy of being thought of as online relationship. it's not in the same league as online relationship. if u think OL is low, bf/gf scamming is waaaaayyyy lower. SwreeTak
I don't think it should be aloved. People can't be in love with each other in a computer game, and they only use this for begging money and scamming. Ok, A bit to negative, but it's pretty much so. Cowboyfan777
well.. depending on ur perspective and who ur dating.... if its a really close friend you've known for a while then i think it will be more intimate then for the money.. or if its someone u see.. hey u look good 100k u be my gf.. chances of ur "gf" being a guy are definently higher so it depends on who ur dating and how u feel about it =) *note/edit* what would u do if they already were dating irl.. and the gf or bf showed their m8 the game? would u ban them for calling their wife or husband... bf or gf baby, sweety, any of those names? so it would be too hard to police and very easy to get out of getting in trouble so the concept of policing/banning bf/gf or marriage's in rs would be = not very smart
The_Bacon_Man
Listen, Jagex ought to stop this TOTALLY. I mean, how does this affect you in real life? Does is mean that you can walk up to some random hot girl and say - "hy, yur prtty, will u b my gf?" It's pathetic how many noobs come up to me - lvl 73 - when im showing my stuff to my friends, and ask - "will u be my bf", and - "will you give me stuff? I'll be ur gf!" Jagex, I'm talking to you here - are you going to allow the base for stalkers - however slim the chance - and have innocent players plagued by all these idiots? It's the same with scammers / autoers. I don't want to change the subject or anything, but who's going to stop them from making another account? If they ban the bf/gf users and the scammers/autoers, they will just make another account. It is EXTREMELY frustrating for high level players. I am rallying for an idea I heard from someone else - OPEN SEASON - the right to just go and kill all the spammers, scammers, gf/bf users, autoers, and beggars. How Jagex works this out is up to them, but I CANNOT STAND MUCH MORE OF THIS! Ty. Tetris is about using the equal force of the working power to build up the glorious people's republic of Russia....
