Runescape, how it controlls you. (Long)

Recommended Posts

Now, some of you may feel runescape is your home, your everything. If it is, please do not get offended by some of my words. I'm not trying to tell people runescape is a 'bad' game.

And second, this topic may be posted alot of times. Sorry.

And third, some people may not connect with my story at all; possible.

When you begin Runescape you think: what a cool game. You play it once a week...just walking around Lumbridge. Then you start reading about it on sites, and the once a week changes to once a day fast. Some people spend almost all of their day at Runescape. Rs begins to be their 2nd life. Why not? I mean, you have friends, and sometimes even friends you feel so close with that they're almost family. Everyones nice to you, and if someone isn't, you can just block them. As if you erase someone in rl. Then, the horror starts. Your grades go down, your friends in rl see you less, and Rs starts to be your number 1 life. People, runescape takes over your life. Your account can be removed in a snap of some peoples fingers. Not only some pixels will be removed, but with that also in some cases a year of your life will be gone. Most of us are teenagers. Your not a teenager for that long. Dont wast it on a computer...dont. Im not saying you should leave rs or whatever, cause i play it too. Often. But think about your real life. Your real life cant be erased. Everything you do will stay...forever. The time you spend on something in real life will never ever go away. In rs, someone controlls your pixel. If your account gets removed some people feel as if someone just died. Someone very close to you. Logical! You put so much time in it. So much joy. Even more then in your real life. I've written better stories, i'm sorry if your yawning right now , but runescape...it's like they put something addictive in it. Arghh..im not feeling like im getting anywhere. It has not use too bind with pixels. Bind with real persons! *slaps forehead* Sorry for submitting this, the story is a bit weird. I just want to know how other people feel about Runescape, being addictive.

Yet another "Don't play Runescape as often, it's addicting" thread.

Yes it's a decent change from most of the first posts of new members but just because some people have difficulty managing their time in Runescape and their own life does not mean everyone does. Think about it this way, if you were addicted to Runescape and your grades were falling and your friends didn't like you, etc., etc., would you be listening to the advice of these completely random strangers on a Fansite?

Humans move away from pain and towards pleasure. If Runescape is the only thing that provides pleasure for them then they will move more and more towards that, consequently it may push away other things that didn't provide as much pleasure, but happiness nonetheless. Now the person will no longer have any other outside factors of happiness and thus move further to Runescape. If you create a thread just like this one and the person reads it they won't care, they will disregard these things. It's called denial.

I say let those who are obsessed with Runescape and limit their social life just for Runescape stay the way they are. If they're "strong" enough to "break free" of their addiction then they'll be able to do it. If not, then it's called evolution. If someone can cognitively break away from Runescape then they've both won the battle and made themselves mentally stronger. If they cannot then they won't survive in the real world.

Your advice may be appreciated by some, but is unnecessary to most. Those of us who will listen are not "under control" of Runescape. Those who will not listen are "controlled" by Runescape and do not want to hear what is happening to them by playing the game.

It is my opinion that it takes a weak mind to become obsessed with this game, obsessed with anything in fact. Take control of your own mind and be conscious of what you do and what is happening around you, that's how you can survive the world. When you start to learn about yourself, that's when you can go out into the world full of confidence.

Edit: This man did a much better job. You'll see many reactions here.

I have to argee with you... there have been days I wanted to skip school to come home and play rs :P Of course, I never have, except for the weather days that theres only like... 20 people in the whole school anyways. And I live in town :P So I can walk home pretty easily.

Still, I'm getting a 94% in math... so, I guess it's not affecting my grades. However, there are people out there who's grades it is affecting.

I agree with you 100%, but there are a lot of people that balance their rl with their rs life and are very successful at it. I also agree with tefda because ppl that are already addicted will not pull away or listen to these threads. I wish they did because they are hurting themselves by wasting days of their lives.

I've been playing Rs for soo long that now it's not much addictive to me, I find it slightly boring. If Rs didn't exist, I'd be doing something else of the sort. Actually, before Rs, I would play small games on various websites such as Miniclip. I'd be playing something else right now, but my computer is junk, so Runescape it is.

To be honest, my life sucks and I don't really see how it is that important. When I get home, I don't feel like doing stupid homework or call annoying people which I see all day. I do fun stuff who make me forget the hell-of-a-day I had.

the above stoy is EXACTLY what had happened to me, it's true for me, so i had to leave, however leaving isn't as easy as it sounds, since quitting i have been on at least twice a week, it's hard for some of us, if anyone feels they may end up like this, trust me, get out, while you can

While being an interesting read, I've found it to be a bit one sided.

It is true that Runescape does have the possibility of taking over your life in such I way, I have found this to be quite rare. I have quite a few friends at school who play Runescape, and all of which still get good grades and maintain a decent social life. I myself only got one "B" this semester, the rest of which being "A"s :)

All in all I found the story to be well thought out and well writen, especialy for a new member.

Who's to say how people should live there lives. Every life is different and demands different circumstances. Sure there are such things as addiction but usually addiction leads to a life lesson of some sort, usually revolving around moderation or will power or maybe even learning to accept help from others; there are countless things to be learned from any life experience. Knowing this, you can't rule any one of them out or even really be able to call them bad. While something may seem bad or harmful at the moment, it is very likely that something will be learned from it. Learning is usually perceived as a good thing. As long as people keep in mind that there is a consenquence for every action or inaction and are doing what they are doing with that in mind, I say live the way you like. It sounds to me, like the author of this thread maybe learned a little something about themselves playing this game. ;)
