RebelAssassin
it was announced today at 2:30pm BST and there are some supprising names in there. Provisional squad: Robinson (Tottenham) James (Manchester City) Green (Norwich) G Neville (Manchester United) Ferdinand (Manchester United) Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal) Campbell (Arsenal) Carragher (Liverpool) Bridge (Chelsea) Beckham (Real Madrid) Carrick (Tottenham) Lampard (Chelsea) Gerrard (Liverpool) Hargreaves (Bayern Munich) Jenas (Tottenham) Downing (Middlesbrough) J Cole (Chelsea) Lennon (Tottenham) Rooney (Manchester United) Owen (Newcastle) Crouch (Liverpool) Walcott (Arsenal) Standby: Carson (Liverpool) Young (Charlton) Reo-Coker (West Ham) Defoe (Tottenham) Johnson (Crystal Palace). first off, why is Owen Hargreaves there? Sven constantly picks him and he dosent do anything Jermain Jenas is an overated player no Sean-wright phillips? but Theo Walcott? why? what has he done at Arsenal since he has left Southampton? i know he is a quality player but he hasnt even played in the premiership before. How is he going to handle the likes of Ronaldinho? (not sure why i am complaining, Sven just got Southampton an extra ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã2million 8-) ) www.PETAkillsanimals.com

Bubsa
Well, I can hardly see Theo having to handle Ronny if he's playing up front :? He racked me in ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã70 :D Put ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã10 on him last week to be included in the squad. Lennon for Wright-Phillips is logical and a good choice. SWP is great on his day, but he hasn't had one of them this season. Of course, it doesn't help when you never play and when you collect ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã40k a week to do nothing, it's tempting not to. I thought he would pick another forward, seeing as 2 of the ones he did pick aren't even fit. Drop either Hargreaves (who has meant to have hit form in Deutschland) or Jenas and stick Bent or Johnson in (Or Robbie Fowler :P). Glad Carrick's in there too. The vast amount of midfielders suggests to me it's 4-5-1 territory. Crouch on his lonesome with Lampard and Gerrard free to roam behind him. Given he's the only proven fit forward we have, I think that's a shrewd move. If we're behind, bring on wildcard Walcott with his blistering pace to change to 4-4-2...that could be extremely effective. I think, bar the lacking of one striker, Sven has been very brave in his choice and I do think he's made the right decisions. I think that's the biggest factor in why his choice is so shocking. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
Tokytoky3333
Where is Mike Pollitt? Lol, I believe my great team beat you 4-2 yesterday, with a great hatrick from Henry! To be honest, I'm not sure about Walcott myself, but SGE is putting his faith in Wenger's judgement, who had been following Walcott's progress since he was 14! We all know Wenger is the best manager in the world! I don't know what it is, but something keeps telling me you "own"?"When you're happy it's like you're a bird; you can fly. The only trouble is, you need other birds to fly with"
Ianbur
Sven has lost the plot completely. If Rooney and Owen aren't fit, Croucho and Walcott will lead the line. Hardly a strikeforce to get the other countries scared. Seriously, Walcott has had half a season in division one, and was hardly prolific there. He hasn't played ONCE for the arse! Even an Emile Heskey comeback would be better than taking a completely unproved player. If Sven was going to take four strikers with two crocks, he should have at least taken a proved Premiership scorer. Whats the deal with Hargreaves and Sol Campbell being taken too? Hargreaves just rolls the ball five feet in the middle of the park and Campbell has been really poor all season, Wes Brown or King should have taken his place. How pissed off must Darren Bent be? Top scoring Englishman in the Prem but beaten to the squad by a player who has never played a top flight game. He's not even on standby! I really do fear for England's chances now. Bubsa
^ I did think Wes Brown was in with a shout, to be fair, he's been in great form this season. I beg to differ on Walcott though. I think he's got such talent it's scary. I'd like him to prove you wrong (I'm sure you would as well!), but I can totally understand the apprehension. It took Sven 5 years, but he's finally got some bottle. Not a full one though, Hargreaves is still there for insurance :P This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. Atticux
Oh, you didn't stand a chance anyway. :P Agreed. If Owen ain't fit, we're gonna have Crouch and Walcott up front? Like that'd work.. and for christ sake, drop Hargreaves already. Where is Mike Pollitt? They might aswell play someone as crap as him.

That Mike Pollitt is a bad keeper? A rebound, that he missed after a great reaction save, and a penalty. Wow.

kav
I think the squad is a joke. How can jermaine Defoe be put behind Crouch? and Walcott. Surely hes the best option after Rooney or owen? And its very unfair for Darren bent. Hes scored 18 goals this season i believe. The highest scoring English striker. And he isnt even put on standby? Whereas Walcott walks into the team without having played first team football since January. And having never played in the Premiership. I think Hargreaves was a good choice though. I dont see much of him since he plays for Munich. But from what i have seen, he seems to be a faster, skillfull winger. Good replacement/sub for joe cole i think. Not a first team starter though. Is Kirkland still injured? I would much rather have him as a replacement than James, with the amount of mistakes he has made, and he has been given a fair number of chances to make up for it too. I also dont think Downing should be on that list. Theres players of better quality out there imo. I really do hope that this Provisional squad turns out to be far from the real one BK. Rizla
I'm an Arsenal fan, and i'm really surprised to see Walcott included. I can sort of see Sven's logic - with Owen looking unlikely he needs someone with a bit of pace, and apparently Walcott gives Thierry Henry a run for his money on the Arsenal training ground. Having said that, i think i would have preferred to see Bent or Defoe picked ahead of him, simply because they have some experience at the top level. To whoever said Downing shouldn't be there, who do you think is a better left sided Englishman? I can't think of any... Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time. BloodAngel
I think Darren Bent shud b included in the squad and Phil Jagielka as a sub midfielder lol, joke. I don't think Wallcot shud b in the squad because he has never played a Premiership game but mayb he will b ready to play in Euro 2008. I gud striker to have mayb on the subs bench would be Danny Webber, (Yes im a Sheffield United fan) cuz he has really fast footwork, he is fast and all those who support a team in the championship should agree with me (i hope). Ill come back if i think of nemore players that should be in the squad. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."
RebelAssassin
to be honest ive changed my mind on Walcott, i really think he can give something to the side. bring him on in the 70th min, defence tired, Walcott runs rings around them. www.PETAkillsanimals.com

mlopes70
I thought sven picked bad and good players.. Good being lennon instead of phillips. Phillips hasn't been playing all that well this season for chelsea. I was quite surprised that the premiship english top scorer darren bent was not included in the side or in the standby squad of 5. Also what do you think of Steve maclern ?(sorry about spelling). Big game for him today in UEFA CUP final vs sevilla. Come on boro (btw im fulham fan but i like boro). money_bought
i dont really support much football but this is my view on why england never get anywhere... we are to scared to play young players at high levels, so byt hte time wait for them to gain 'experiance' they are older and cannot quite compete with the youngsters other counteris put out?!?! get the young players we have experiance earlier and we will be away... :D | from a to b - f2p/p2p staker | Private chat - Currently on | click here to view my blog

Oh nice idea, what if they put on new defenders? Then they won't be tired and he won't run rings round anyone. Maybe he could in division 1 but not in international football mate.
