Jdprs
Basic Pixel Tutorial There are a lot of tutorials out there like this. Pixel tutorials for beginners but I figure some of them still might be too detailed for first time pixels. So this Tutorial will tell you the vary basic, what you would need to know if youv never pixeled anything before The start of any good pixel sig is a good idea, It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a good idea to jot down ideas and make a first draft of the sig on paper like this: Dont forget to use reference pictures when your drawing the 1st draft so that things look right. Once your sketch is finished its helpful to scan it. Then you can begin work on your line art. When your ready, open your chosen pixel program(i use ms paint, there̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s also graphics gale and other programs that work great for pixeling Since im using paint ill show you the helpful paint tools for line work Heres a picture of complete line work: Once youv finished your linework you can start coloring, heres some useful coloring tools Once your coloring and linework is done you can do some shading, im not going to cover dithering here because this is a very basic tutorial Take the pick tool(little eyedropper) and pick the color youv just dump in your lines, then go colors>edit colors> define custom colors and darken it, then use the pencil tool at 8x zoom to make a line of darker color inside your linework(shade the side that is opposite to the light sorce), then brighten it more, make another line, and repeat until your happy with it. Also, highlight parts facing the light source. Then just add some Photoshop text, or nice paint text and some finishing touches and youv got yourself a pixel sig http://jdpr.deviantart.com/

woopidoo2
The sketching part could be an extra, I never sketch my ideas :) But thats just what style you like most. And when I do scan, I never get those lines clear, just 100% black and 100% white, theres allways something gray and thats very annoying. :? (how do you handle that?) imhomer
Nice guide. Only thing I take issue with is when you say it's good to use the pencil tool for linework. It seems like the line tool is the general consensus as it gives cleaner lines.
Sepio
Lines needen't be clean from the start, you clean them up after you get the jest of the image. I always use a pencil, very rarely use the line tool unless I need a perfect line.

Pretty much true, though some think if you use the line tool your not really pixeling. http://jdpr.deviantart.com/

JacobRyan
Oh well since it's been brought up again I might as well say something on it. How is tracing your own drawing cheating again? I mean, you drew it, you're the original author of it. So is there anything wrong with making it into a pixel form? No. It's still your work, it's still pixeling, it still consists of using the line tool. Hmm... Think about it.

dorkvader
Paint doesnt have layers.. and thats pretty much cheating. If I ever need layers in paint, I open a new window. Edit: sorry for bumping this. I did not see that three posts below me, someone had resurrected this from the 4 month old deadness.
