Time for rares to go

I'm not saying everyone plays for the rares (we're going from one extreme to another here), but you're totally denying the importance of rares by saying the total value of the rares market is insignificant and by saying you don't believe that rares are the sole reason some people play this game and that not many people will be pissed of when you remove them.

Rares don't harm the economy. Most "rares ruin up the economy" threads actually mean to say there is an extreme inflation problem in this game. That may have been solved for a big part with the introduction of construction now though.

Personally I am kinda sick of the whole rares thing too :oops:, although what i'd rather jaqex do was track prices for a month on all rare items, average the price they were traded for (and then give a little extra) and then give that amount of GP to everybody with (a) rare(s). The only problem with this is its simply not feasible to do.

In real life, if there was only a very small number of paper hats which for some reason could not be remade, and were very old and valuable, it would cost a fortune! STOP AND THINK ABOUT IT. SUPPLY AND DEMAND. Do you know what those 3 words mean? "Supply and demand". There's a limited number of party hats, but unlimited players that want them.

 

 

 

Small supply + large amount of people wanting them = people raising prices and competing for the small supply.

 

 

 

Let's even go to your "hat vs gold" example. If there was a HUGE hole somewhere in the world with an umlimited amount of gold in it, gold would go for dirt cheap. Now let's say that all the trees in the world, along with all the paper products in the world (except for 3 paper hats) got burnt up. THOSE 3 HATS WOULD LITERALLY GO FOR MILLIONS.

Who is it hurting if more then 99% of players don't want party hats? The >1% that wants Party Hats already have them since they are the only people that can account for both groups.

Reverse those percentages for everyone over level 30.

Well on the topic of your behalf... I do agree it would be nice for the P-hats to be sold for simply "100 gp each", but also it would bother me. We have bigger problems to worry about like bug-abusers, hackers, and immature children but yet we worry about a party hat? I've played since January 2001, and ever since they were released that Christmas, I haven't EVER had a p-hat. When they come out, they were a FUN item. People gave them as gifts, runescape lived happy. There was no money in the economy then, so levels were HARDER to get, and money was MUCH harder to come by. With the release of memberes, and high-alching, money came into this game so much easier.

 

 

 

But I myself own a pair of "bunny ears". There's limited people in the game who own these, because they we're the first un-tradeable rares that came out LONG ago, often before many players. I look at them as my status symbol, so when people come up and say "your a n00b, im l33xer then j00", I either disregard it or say, "Just look at my head". It shows years of experience long beyond theirs. It would bug me if people could just "buy" these ears from the store. It's saying that my time here on runescape was worth 25gp? No thanks.

 

 

 

Party hats will stay, although having one is a nice though. Money is easy to get these days, just gotta know how :)

As said before, rares are the foundation for the whole RS economy. Without rares, many people wouldn't have any point for playing this game. Just try to work to get a phat, then if you get one :roll: then you'll think differently. Jagex won't take away rares because they know that everything would crash.

My best idea to stop this would be setting up two shops, one in Edgeville and one by Seers.

 

 

 

These shops would sell all holiday items at an estimated market value today. Holiday iteams would become untradable and the shop would always be stocked.

 

 

 

If you wanted to sell an item or sell an item back the money you get for selling would be 15% less than the buying price. And since it would be untradable if you die with a rare you respawn with a *lost and found notice* so you would use that with a banker or salesperson to get the rare back.

 

 

 

 

 

This would still encourage people to earn enough money to buy these items but keeping them at a solid price, also people who have rares could still wear them proudly as a sign of wealth.

Remove every rare out of ppl's banks and give them its currest street value in cash. Or make em untradeable and have a npc that pays the street price for it then in a month or so after all are out of game they can release a shop taht sells them or do another drop

They should actually have a shop that buys and sells the rares for exactly 1M above the current market price.

My idea is, jagex sets up a shop which buys all rare items for 50% more than market value and can't sell them back then introduces non-tradeable phats, masks etc for people that only want them for the look.

 

First off make all rares untradable. Then have Diango have the ability to buy all discontinued items for the street value that they are. You can also buy the rares for the same price as they are sold to them for from Diango. Problem solved.

they serve no purpose and generally most of the people who own them dont even play the game.. by play the game, i mean leveling up skills. (no money making and merchanting arent skills).

 

i mean if u really wanted to pay $5US a month to sit in fally shouting 'selling blue hat' and just play the market, go to the stock exchange, make sum real money.

Rares make the game fun... it a little bit of fun jagex added to the game to make it more interesting and fun... if you have been playing the game for a while then you know it was fun gettin the rares and watching them get more and more expensive... it also something that rich people can show off a bit with. i think its a really creative and unique thing jagex did with making rare items ... i think they should stay

Runescape is backed by rares. That's were jagex really screwed it up. Its like paper money being backed by gold except its the coin backed by rares. Rares hold the economy up, yet are slowly destroying it. There is the delima-If Jagex takes away rares, economy crashes. If nothing is done about it, economy is gradually crashing.

 

 

 

So right now if you don't want prices to shoot up because of huge defecits due to billions in lost player revenue, and time, then stfu, please. We've heard too much.

Let them stay, with the con update i think Jagex is trying to bleed the rare economy. I mean the magic crystal costs 925k a peice...at full stock! I mean now rich people have much better things to waste money on.
