New method of training Herblore (from Fairy Tale II quest)

Featured Replies

The quest gives you the ability to make the Magic Essence Potions. Each of these give you 130 experience and both the herbs and second ingredient can be gotten in unlimited, reliable quantities from the fairy ring which is very close to the bank. The potion gives +3 magic boost and is non-tradeable.

The herb, a star flower, can be very quickly harvested from plants that grow in the area accessed by entering CKP into the fairy ring. These herbs are quick to grab and in unlimited supply near a bank. (The code is CKP for this area.)

The second ingredient, crushed Gorak claws, are Gorak claws (a 100% drop from Goraks) grinded with a pestle and mortar. The Goraks are level 145 and protection prayers do not work on them, though, so not all players will be able to kill them and train herblore with this method. And although killing Goraks seems like a slow, time-wasting task, they actually drop extremely large piles of coins and many other odd and/or very good drops including lvl 3 clues!. Also, the bank is again very closeby. (The code is DIR for this area.)

This is the only method of training herblore that is completely reliable and consistant, because of the herb being guaranteed to be able to just be picked, and the experience of the potion is high enough to make it quite worthwhile.

Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. Interruptions of agility when I feel like it, as well.

And lucky enough to get 4 Dragon and 6 Barrow Drops.

What level is this new monster anyway?

You can't use prayer on it? Or did I read that wrong.

Protection prayer do not work against them.

They are lvl 145.

145 and no Protection prayers eh? Guess I won't be doing that until I'm level 126 Combat. Alas, I can wait, it might take me that long to get to 57 Herblore  .

Does this really give good exp per hour? If so, prepare for a nerf.

Well... remember that we're talking about herblore here. Unless you buy all the supplies it can never go too fast. But this is a reliable potion because you can always get the herbs and ingredients, there's no luck involved in getting them.

I doubt it will be nerfed because the monsters are still pretty hard to kill so it's hard-earned exp and not so fast that it's ruining the game.

Also, I just got a lvl. 3 clue scroll from them!!!

They also drop odd stuff like iron halberds and bronze dagger (+). Also in killing one load of them (~20) you can get up to like 3k gp just from coin drops.

I was under the impression they gave 30xp, not 130. If it is 130 i might make the 800 or so i need for 82 herblore. But, i doubt it.

runescape name is also finny50.

Quit runescape.

the goraks seem very weak for their level. I'm level 102 and killed it without taking any damage

Nope, they are indeed 130, I've been making them.

gorak are pretty tough. The food lost and risk in getting their claws is the trade off for it.

Yeah, they're not quite as tough as you would expect for their level, but they definitely can hurt. I guess this method works a little bit better if you have full guthans (though they drop big bones so bones to peaches is out of the question, even though it probably wouldn't have worked anyways because these things can hit big).

Are there any safespots in the gorak's cave?

Artemis_42.png

"Those who know nothing, can understand nothing"

- Ansem, Kingdom Hearts

I tried it a while ago just after I finish the quest.

I can't say it is easy exp or fast exp. I did around 8k herblroe exp and stoped.

My method was:

wear: guthan

inv: the staff, 1 monk (juts in case), 16 vails, pestle and Mortar.

I fill the vails on the fountain north to the fairy ring.

teleport to ckp to get flowers.

use the flowers on the vails.

teleport out and teleport to dir.

Kill those monsters. crush the claws and add them to the vails.

teleport out.

empty pots adn fill again.....

You don't need to bank cause u don't have anything to do with those pots anyway (can't trade them and they are only +3 magic).

that was you do 2k herblroe per "trip", u can take more vails and do more per trip.

I don't found the monsters easy doh. I am lvl 115 and even with guthan always on some times they took me down to 20/95 hp so I eat the monk cause they can hit at least 13.

If you like 10k or less exp from lvl it worth it but for getting like 120k (what I need for next lvl) will take hours.

Are there any safespots in the gorak's cave?

There are some cases u can stand next to the walls and they won't hit you if u mage range or hally them. I will try get a picture next time I am there.

EDIT: Just went to get u picture. even saw this guy using the "safe" spot.

They seem to have very high defence. I am 122 with 99 attack and I have trouble hitting them.. or healing with my guthan.

It definately is the cheapest herblore xp..

I think I would still prefer farming herbs, buying seconds, then selling the potions.

136 Combat, 2290+ Skill Total

I was just down in Zanaris, and I made 52 of these Magic Essence Potions. It took a decent amount of time to get a load (26) of Gorak Claws, but they ARE a 100% drop. They are very weak for their level, I'd say no stronger than Fire Giants. I also have to say I disagree with Sk8er, I did not find them all that hard to hit (I am also 99 attack), and I was not super-potted. They didn't hit me too hard, but I often found it difficult to heal with Guthan's as quickly as they hit me.

All in all, I'd say the XP is okay. But, I have a feeling after a reasonable price is established in the market, you may be able to buy the Claws and collect the Starflower yourself (which is really quick), then sell the potion and break even. So, look out for these prices!

If I am not mistake those are untradeable (pots/startflowers/claws). Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yeeeah, but even better! Just make tarromin serum (the stuff for Shades quest). Tarromin can easily be bought in large quantities for low costs, and ashes are readily available (just make fires). Gives the same xp as a str potion, without having to gather limp roots.

My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race.

However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.
