ThurinEthir
I heard that there may be 20 planets by the end of September...I don't know if it's true or not, it's just dumb, who cares if it's a planet or not? It's not like it affects us, as long as we know it's there. My Very Educated Mother Served Us Nine Pizzas INTO My Very Educated Mother Served Us Noodles? Where'd Jupiter go? :ohnoes: How did I forget Jupiter? Just+Jupiter...And yeah, Pluto is cold-hearted, it's the Roman name for Hades. When I was in kindergarten, I memoried all the planets...and made wuite a lot of maps of them. Now I have to change all of them...Great... heart_of_ink
I'm glad they knocked off pluto. It had a different orbit system, is was smaller than it's neighboring gas giants, and it only has an atmosphere when it's closest to the sun. I disagree with adding Xena and Ceres. It's a load of hogwash. Keep it at 8. There's no sig here. Move it along...
speedofsound
Aw man! I just finished secound grade now I have to go do it all over again! Rats! #-o You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you." Adam007
If they had to change the whole damn system around and add a bunch more planets to qualify Pluto as one, why didn't they just NOT add those other planets? 'omg IF PLUTO FITS THE DESCRIPTION AS A PLANET THEN WE HAVE TO ADD OTHER ONES TO THE PLANET LIST!!!!11' No, they don't. Yes, they kind of do. That's how science works - not for the ease of people who memorized a "My mother" line, but for precise classification, with no exceptions. You can't have a classification of a planet, and have other planets that deserved to be called a planet more than Pluto does, not be called a planet. The easiest solution was to just take away Pluto's status. I'm sure people would be complaining a lot more if they had to learn more planets than forget one. ixfd64
I wonder what effect this change will have on education. 1. Will kids lose points on exams if they answer that Pluto is a planet? 2. What are the costs of remodeling those science museums? 3. Or of rewriting millions of books? 4. Also, will vintage solar system model kits become collectible, and maybe, rare? xxsheepxx
I read about that in the newspaper.. Sooner or later scientists will change their minds and decide it's a planet after all. Then a whole generation of little kids will have to be brainwashed.

Why do a bunch of idiots get to change something weve been accustomed to for decades? Now so much has to be changed, textbooks, ect.. ah well, only 9 planets now. Anyway, I think that's the majority way of thinking, but the wrong way of thinking. That was with outdated figures. Pluto was discovered, they didn't know much about it, so they figured it was a planet. Now we know much more, mostly that it doesn't have much in common with the other planets, and people are all upset just because of their nolstagia over it. If books have to be changed, so be it. It's better than sticking to something that's outdated and doesn't make sense logically or scientifically. We got that little hurdle out of the way, I say it's time we start thinking about changing measurements...

I may go down in history as the guy who killed Pluto." Xena is considered a dwarf planet they wrote, not one of the full 8. Oh, and back then when it was decided that the world wasn't flat, it didn't exactly effect that many people. I'm sure most people weren't effected - only sailors and scientists. Nowadays only astronauts and scientists would be effected. It's not about who's effected, it's about the science and logic behind it. Classify things because of the sense behind it - don't keep something just because it would be a hassle to change.
Bloodyrb
This is just stupid.
