Most of these have been found with their tails, it is thought fans of the late Steve Irwin have been hunting them to get revenge. I hope stingrays don't get any bad 'connotation' to them like snakes or sharks get from all this, otherwise they'll face the same problems those do. As irwin discovered its pretty dangerous to be so close with a stingray, why would people get so close just to do this? Seems a bit dumb to me. I don't think it was a reflex it either felt threatend or it generally just wanted to kill him, animals do have killer intincts you know and not all animals kill for food, some kill just to kill. Steve, may he rest in peace, jumped on the creature, and using its instinct defended itself. It wasnt a killer instinct....most of the time its orangutangs, chimps, and other primates.
