malo2
heh, I was pretty aware of the fact that updates usually took months. But what interests me is that they are always working on some skill, so they're working on our next skill right now! Lastfm
123Yourgone
Also, i bet no one knew they started making POH in 2001. Actually every one who played back then knew, couse jagex announced them, and the original map had houses in varrock that were going to be poh's, they just never got arround to doing it till now becouse the old engine couldnt support the massive changes needed to make pohs feasible. Rcty
Wow I loved reading that! I'm always interested in things that happen behind the scenes, so that was a VERY interesting read. Everybody that wants to know something about that should read this! Also, over 1M lines of code, that's amazing and Andrew created it all! Most people don't realize how hard it is to update such a complex game as RuneScape, but thanks to this, hopefully most people will learn! ~Rcty Rcty
Guest mmortalone
omg wouldnt this be cool! its on page 3: Hmm a "the making of" knowledge base section could be quite interesting. We could perhaps choose an example update and show the design brief which was initially produced by the developer, the concept sketches graphics did, how those were turned into models, then tweaked. Perhaps some fragments of code showing how the design was turned into reality. The changes made to the brief as development went on and the changes QA suggested and the bugs found and fixed before launch. And finally how the questhelp hints were put together. Sort of a complete start to finish example for one update that shows all the steps that went into it. I'll suggest it to the knowledge base team. Although they are admittedly really busy right now finishing off the "quest help" for the remaining quests, so might be a while before they get a chance! BUt the most funny thing is, that on page one, Andrew says: So the main reasons we don't say until we are SURE are: 1) It can take a very long time to make things, and it's not a good to build up demand for something you can't fulfill soon. People get disappointed and feel let down, and that's not good. We're now VERY careful about what we say we are working on, so it's likely to come out soon after we say before people get impatient and think we are breaking a promise. Even then we occasionally get it wrong. Retired.
