Ads = Lag

Featured Replies

I'm not the F2P person type but I don't think I'm the only one that noticed this. Certain ads on top of the game will cause severe lag. I remember the shoot the jetplane and the catch a bull ones make me lag out when doing the least laggiest of things. Heck one of them nearly got me killed in the Stronghold of Security. I know its breaking the rules to block the ads but they kill...literally -.-

you can always right click on it, point your crusor to quality > and select low

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

If that works, you can do that. But, what I do, is send a report into Jagex. If you give them enough information, they will most likely remove the add.

I haven't had any problem 8-) and don't think anyone else should have because I use a '98 and have no problem

what do you do if your browser automaticly blocks adds?
Change the settings. I don't even know how to block an add :^o

I dont mind the ads.

They keep the game free for f2p.

Plus sometimes they keep me entertained when I'm doing boring things

There's this Smiley ad, that whenever it shows up, the game lags so much, so much I nearly got killed in Varrock Sewers by the Red Spiders (I was getting their eggs). It annoys the darn outta me. REMOVE THAT AD. The other ones do nothing at all. Hate the Smileys. Hate them. All the Smileys want is too Lag RuneScape, take over it, make it into RuneSmiley and make us drink orange juice.

^^ yup thats what i do too. but the ads don't make me lag...but maybe its your internet, not the ad

Retired from runescape. I will be on every now and then though. :)

No I get lag sometimes too. I was randomly shooting ducks one day and it went lag crazy on me. Nothing could stop the lag from taking over my now very slow motion. :ohnoes: But then a solution came to mind! I turned off my computer and did something else. I lost to lag. :XD:

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

so far, only 4 adds have done this to me, and after numerous reports, only one is left.

These 4 ads were: A smily ad, A disco "shoot the duck" ad, A cowboy "shoot the duck" ad, And a "beat the gator" ad. The highlighted have been removed for me, to my knowledge.

Also, after setting the detail to low, press rewind/forward, and it should stop moving entirely.

I too noticed that the shoot the jet ad caused major lag so I just reported it and I got a reply from Mod Al within a couple days and I haven't seen it since.

F2P FOR LIFE!!!

Usually I just make the window small so I won't see the ads. That way it doesn't make me lag.

That doesnt really help because its still there if you see it or not. I died alot in wildy because of lag ads, even if i set the quality to low it doesnt help much. Sometimes they freeze my whole screen. They should make a size limit for them or something <.<

Yeah, those .gif's ads are very annoying. :|

Thanks to WithTheQuickness for the sig!

I haven't had any lag ads in RS2 but I remember back in RSC there was a few- which sucked for pking.

Change the settings. I don't even know how to block an add :^o

Better, don't change the settings to view adverts. They have it designed to flip ads at intervals, which steals focus, and if you dare to erase while typing, it KICKS YOU OUT of RuneScape, which has a 100% death likelihood if you're in a battle, which sends you back to lumbridge and makes you lose everything you're carrying. Worse, and this is major serious stuff, I have also lost session data due to adverts, which is illegal being that the computer they're popping onto belongs to the user, not Jagex Corporation. If Jagex really wanted people to let the adverts show, they would not flip them around or use any high-cpu adverts. :shame:

Btw, my firewall disables those adverts for me in my primary browser (IE6, which RuneScape is best run in...), and it has saved me from many damaging attacks on this computer.

'Nuff said. =; :notalk:

[item edited to show which browser I use for RS, and to add this note...]

tifuserbar-dsavi_x4.jpg and normally with a cool mind.

(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)

I've always put my ads on low detail and it usually works fine...

Sometimes if you leave your computer on the rs login page for like a few hours the add would disappear completely :D or for only me i guess :?

GREEN MOSS MAN.

If you suffering lag from ads , do report them to jagex, if only a few report it , i doubt they will do anything about it. So the more reports made by different players the better for you may be. Then they will see it as a problem.

I haven't had any problem 8-) and don't think anyone else should have because I use a '98 and have no problem

Just because you use a '98 doesnt mean anything. Its processing speed/ your ISP/ and a bunch of other stuff that detemines how fast ytour computer runs. '98 is just a harder version of Windows to operate. Your operating system does not determine your computer speed at all.

Bleh, once I get off my lazy bum and go to Imageshack, there will be a picture here.

To all lag-because-of-aders!!!!

If its not the first ad to show up, click on the black around the game and press backspace!!!!!!

It WILL kill the ad and change nothing to ur playing!!!!! (found out by error :P )

Quest cape obtained at combat level 83, march 07.

This has happen to me too, but with a diffrent ad. But i was not so serious, because it just lagged a little bit more than it used to do.

Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

Well, I have quite a bit of knowledge about flash, (what the ads are created on), and they can use actionscript to take away/change the menus. I also hate the bull one, because they remove the menu (except the Settings and Flash 8 settings), so you cannot change it.

And that one causes major lag problems to me :| . Must... Not... Renew... Membership...

Also, i'd have to agree. With 98, your acually more certain to go faster because of most of the useless installments on windows XP.

The optimal.
