October 17, 200619 yr I was outraged after reading the article "The Greed Factor." Total society collapsing all because a few players can't play the game right? Here are my words on this. (note, general is pretty much the only topic that will fit with this, for Wisdom one doesn't cover it, as this is also somewhat a poll as well as an article.) Save the RuneScape economy! Runescape has a very delicate economy, and if this were to collapse, the entire game will go. This "Greed Factor" as it was accurately named by Tip.It communities, is causing one of the most dangerous things to the game. A total collapse of the economical system. Players buy from other players all the time, its common sense; buy it for less. But, as players die and quit every day, items are lost, and fewer are left in the world of RuneScape. This will lead to ordinary items such as rune platebodies prices rocketing up to 100k or more! This means that many players would probably be running to Oziach to buy from him for a mere 85k. If this happens, each platebody bought from him is 85,000gp less then the estimated 800billion total, and this will possibly drain all of RuneScapes wealth. Meanwhile, scammers and merchants FEAST on the poor, the desperate, and the plain stupid. Scammers steal, make tons of cash, and get banned; there goes even more of RuneScapes wealth. Sooner or later, almost every player will be stone poor! With no welfare to collect, they are forced to start over, and former merchants will be totally lost with what to do. Former scammers will be banned. Eventually, the economy totally dissolves under its' own greed. RuneScape will be overwhelmed by the Greed Factor, and JaGeX may possibly be forced to add in a new thing to save RuneScape, such as lower prices or higher stock in stores. Then, players will continue to do what they did earlier, buying from stores, causing the same catastrophe to reaccur. What can we do to save this economy? Stop merchanting is one thing. Don't buy from merchants either. Buy 50% of the items you need from a shop, and make money out of nothing, by selling to shops or using alchemy spells; also, don't buy the nature runes from players, you can make them, or, ask someone to make the essence into it for you. Stop merchanting in its' tracks by simply using forums to buy or sell. Merchants rely on players standing around in banks to sell to. With you busy in the forums, they can't make a deal. Merchanting will end, and with it, the biggest threat to the RuneScape economy will end. --Written by Slade8, inspired by the article on "The Greed Factor." What do you think? October 17, 200619 yr Author So what is your oppinion on this topic? What do you think? Because what you think matters. So speak out, and help save the game you love (or have fun playing, or whatever.) Were you inspired? Please say, I don't want my 30minutes spent making this article to be wasted... October 17, 200619 yr whats the point of making this topic now? that article came out ages ago. in response to the thread this will never happen, rune plates are always coming into the game from smithers so they wont sky rocket, and other items are being smithed, fished, barrowed, and money is coming from selling the items to general stores, what your indicating is imposibble, just my 2 cents.
October 17, 200619 yr Hahahs :P Rune plates for 100k ea... Rune plates are what is saved when you die, so not many are lost, and rune smithers make thousands a day :P You should have investigated more before writing such a blasphemy... PkmarioPorygon 64Black Charlizard
October 17, 200619 yr i hate idiots who curse merchanting. It is one of the hardest things to master. sure the rewards are great but only if ur good at it. if you had it ur way, there would be stock market in todays world. ud rely on collecting car parts and asking someone to put them together for you, or sell them to a shop for ur own money... FOOL!!!
October 17, 200619 yr First off, rune plates for 100k? Unless someone gets banned or loses it to a monster and no one picks it up, the number of rune plates won't drop. And do you realise the number of rune plates that come into the RS world each day? 99 smithers can make them, ya know. This satisfies (for the most part) the number of people who enter the game each day (rune plates only dropped about 10k from when I started playing 1.5 years ago). Second, you say that scammers will get banned with the cash they got from players, which will make everyone poor. Can I get a buzzer noise in here? Not everyone is oblivious enough to get scammed, which means that not everyone will become poor, and not every scammer gets banned. With your logic, when one person gets scammed, everyone gets poor, and scammers receive an insta-ban. Incorrect, I'm afraid. You contradict yourself, next. You say to the world "use alchemy spells". This is one of the direct reasons for there being inflation in Runescape - so much money comes into the economy each day! So how can all the world become poor if there are always going to be yew/magic trees, nature runes, and bowstrings? Your logic is SERIOUSLY flawed. Trying not to be offensive here, but next time you post, you should try and look at it from all different points of view instead of jumping to the first idea that pops into your head. October 17, 200619 yr Not going to happen to many things comming in to game and far too many thing already in the game.
October 17, 200619 yr There is supply coming in, its just not going away. About the merchanting, it actully makes the economy run. Will you actully gather 15,000 iron ore and sell it all? Why not mine say 2500 and sell it to a merchanter for a little less. Then the merchanters get your iron, along with others to form a huge stock of iron. Then they sell it to people who need it for skilling. So in a sence, merchanter's are doing the 'skillers' buying work so the skiller doesn't have to spend time tring to buy 548 iron ore per trade. So you should be blaming the 'skillers', not the merchants. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
October 17, 200619 yr Yeah... yeah... yeah. NO. Are you telling me to sell my iron ore to a store for 2 gp? How does one make 100k or 1 mil like that? Second, very rarely does a price that a merchant has rise above the actual market price of the item in a general store. For example, all the smithers sell rune at around 75kish, to entice people to buy from them, not Oziach. Your logic is flawed, and i can't follow it. The RS economy is fine as it is, and the fact that there IS a store price is what is keeping the prices low. The prices won't vary that much unless players start owning stores. Then there would be a stock market, and crashes and etc... Honestly, i disagree. Don't fiddle with what isn't broken. ~Elphinstone Which FF Character Are You?"The only tyrant i accept in this world is the still voice within." - Mahatma Gandhi

October 17, 200619 yr Wow , someone has a lot of time on there hand to write some bs like that... PURE F2p
October 18, 200619 yr the runescape economy is much like the economy of the US. there are raw suppliers, manufacturors, middlemen, and consumers. therefore the whole economy doesn't just crash when there are to many merchants, it adjusts itself to fit the growing majority; like price and demand. CURRENTLY SELLING: 59 mage ammys 900 each. if u buy all its 45k. pm meALWAYS BUYING: lobbys 200 each

Exactly. As time goes on more people will be able to smith rune stuff and this will keep the price in check.

October 18, 200619 yr It's better to keep your mouth shut and have everybody thing you're stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Take some of your own advice in a while.
October 18, 200619 yr i would liek to point out the fact that when people lose rune plate bodies or they quit with 100 in their bank, it makes no difference tot he economy. 100 can easily be made in a matter of minutes. now, when you quit forever with 3 phat sets, 5 mask sets, 25 santas, and 100 easter eggs, that will do more to the economy because no more can be made, so this sense of there being only a certain ammount of items, ex: rune palte bodies is ludacris. oh, and by the way, i have 500+ nats just form killing random things over the past month. so getting natures really isnt that big of a problem, especially since they are somewhat common drops among many creatures in runescape, as well as easily made. not everyone is scammed by scammers. its the select few who are stupid enough to get scammed and lose their money. and if they are scammed, it wont be something like 100m daily, its something like 20k which can easily be made in about 5-10 minutes of work, if not less.
October 18, 200619 yr This seems quite idiotic. Merchants obviously get items from one place to another. The price may be higher or lower. If you don't like the price, buy from someone else. Also, how can someone become stone poor? Skills are part of the game for a reason. Train a skill, then you'll see that they are useful for something. I disown this topic. Maybe look into some things before ranting on about nonsense. You should be able to tell from the majority of your replies that you did something wrong. I will leave it to you to find out exactly what it is. Trial and error. Try again later. PoetryIndexed Picture 1Indexed Picture 2 Killed my maxed Zerker pure April 2010 Rebooting Runescape
