October 31, 200619 yr Yeah. I said it. I have officially recognized that I am addicted to the game. Have you ever spent 14 hours playin the game at one time? I have. Have you ever missed a class just so that you could play Runescape for a little longer, maybe get 40 or so more Pest Control points? I have. Ever contemplate missing a quiz or a test because you are in the middle of something in the game and don't want to go away from it? I have. I have been blind to my addiction for a long time now. I was in classic denial. My friends and family told me that spending that much time on a computer game was not healty. I did not believe them (I am interacting with other people after all) and I denied that fact that I was addicted. Why did I come to this realization you might ask? It is because my slipping grades finally shoved it in my face. I am in college. Last semester I failed two classes because I had been skipping classes to play the game. That is right, two classes. And I am officially in danger of failing on this semester if I do not get serious. No, I am not quitting. I know that I am not going to be able to give it up for good. I want to play that badly and I have made too many good friends to just go away. I am going to limit myself to a max of one hour a day. Maybe less. Then I will be able to study more and get my grades up. I am just glad that I finally saw the truth of the situation. Now I am going to be able to take the steps that I need to take to fix this problem. Thank you for your time in reading my story if you have. It means a lot to me that you took time out of your day to read this. :) Anyways, to open up discussion, I know that I am not the only one that has become addicted to the game. It is very powerful in this. There are just so many things to do that you could spend the rest of you life on the game and not get everything done. Anyone else willing to share their story? October 31, 200619 yr i wanted to be nice for this thread, but all i can think of what to say would be considered negative... just slow it down, i mean what classes are you failing? exactly, whatever classes your failing you took because you knew you could pass them. you dont take chemistry if your blind. do what you have to do and then play when your done.
October 31, 200619 yr Author I am slowly starting to realize that real life is indeed more fun than Runescape. October 31, 200619 yr BEUATIFUL!!!!! see buddy best thing you have done for yourself... realize your addicted then set your own limites.... I am proud... actually tears are coming to my eyes... (a number of things have happened lol (im in a good mood atm :P :P :P))
October 31, 200619 yr There are tons and tons of articles and weblog entries out there on the internet saying the same thing, if not about RS, but about other MMORPGs. You're not alone. This is a poorly understood thing, this MMORPG addiction. But from what I've read, it's pretty real. While the consequences may not be physically debilitating like a substance abuse, or financially dangerous like a gambling addtiction, it is still "bad". Personal relationships often suffer, as does work/ academic performance. Now if I could just bring myself to admit it myself... PS - Most people seem to only kick the habit if they go cold-turkey.
October 31, 200619 yr Author I have tried to quit cold turkey before and it has always ended with me crawling back to the game. -.- I am hoping that setting the limit for myself and forcing myself to get off of the game after that limit is going to be more successfull than me not coming on at all for a while. :) The Internet: where men are men, women are men, and children are the FBI.First Dragon Drop 5/6/2006 -Dragon Med from Bronze Dragon :DFirst Barrows Item From Chest 2/20/2007 - Verac's Brassard :D

October 31, 200619 yr I'm very happy for you that you've finally taken a step back and realised what has been going on. It's a shame that you've missed so many classes and play runescape for so long, as real life is important too. I myself am thankfully not addicted, I love the game don't get me wrong, but going a week doesn't phase me at all. So thankfully I'm ok. I hope you get your grades back and still enjoy runescape and still post on here! your a great poster! Good luck whatever happens anyways. \

October 31, 200619 yr I used to be addicted a long time ago, but now im not even close. The addiction kinda wore off for me, maybe because I started getting bored a little. I still play plenty, but I can easly control myself, and I play other games aswell, and do other things in general. I dont spend whole days playing runescape. Lastfm
October 31, 200619 yr im semi-addicted, i play a little too much, but i can control myself and im not completely addicted :)
October 31, 200619 yr The Big Picture To get level 99 in all skills requires about 287 million xp. Assume that, over time, you can average 50K xp per hour. That's over 5,700 hours. That's 7.5 hours/day, 5 days/week for almost 3 years. That's a full time job. What are you going to have to show for it when you finally do get to Zezima's "level"? Will your life really be, in any way, better for the experience? If you stop playing RS, what are the odds that your relationships with the people you know in-game, who likely live hundreds if not thousands of miles away, will last? Especially if they too are, in fact, addicted to RS? You need to step back and figure out why you're playing the game. And what you're missing out on when spending all that time mining or runecrafting or playing PC.
October 31, 200619 yr Author I am getting a little bored of the game now too I guess. I think that is what is making it so easy for me to spot the addiction and take steps to go away from it. I was at my mom's house for the weekend and I did not go on Runescape once. I was very proud of myself. : Thank you all for your support. \ The Internet: where men are men, women are men, and children are the FBI.First Dragon Drop 5/6/2006 -Dragon Med from Bronze Dragon :DFirst Barrows Item From Chest 2/20/2007 - Verac's Brassard :D
October 31, 200619 yr Oh yea, I'm addicted to it, but I can control it. The day construction came out, I read the update right before I left for work. I sat there for a couple of minutes thinking about calling into work, didn't but I thought about it. If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.[hide=My Stats][/hide]
October 31, 200619 yr It's good that you realize you've spent too much time on this game and your real life is suffering. Many don't. Real life and this game can coexist, but you have to realize which is more important. Sounds like you're going to be fine.
October 31, 200619 yr I do believe that I am addicted, im not afraid to admit that I'm addicted, but I dont really feel like doing much about it. It does cause my grades to slip a little bit but I'm able to control myself and have never come close to failing a class. My real life isnt all that interesting, my rs like is alot of interesting then my real life. As sad as this might sound to you it is true and I love to play this game. I don't find something that you enjoy to be a waste of time or anything like that so I tell people this when they say I am wasting my time. Sorry if I got a little repetative there, that usually happens when I talk about stuff like this  so yea, my point is that My rs life and real life are about on the same level. I spend about as much time on one as I do the other. I still get all my homework done and go to the gym alot. But if I'm not with my friends im on here with my other friends :)
October 31, 200619 yr once you kick the game you're left with alot of spare time, can anyone come up with anything to replace that? thats what i'm struggling with
October 31, 200619 yr I just wanted to add: I can't tell you how glad that they didn't have this game when I was younger. I find it addictive now (and I'm in my 30s). I can't imagine what would have happened if I'd had this around when I was going to college, had to wake up early for a clase, game or a track meet. Nowadays it's easy to justify spending a whole rainy (or cloudy, or sunny) Saturday at the computer in that I'm staying at home and not blowing money on X, Y or Z, and/or that I deserve a day of doing something I enjoy after a long workweek. But I _know_ that college would have been a completely different ballgame. Good luck with kicking this.
October 31, 200619 yr See what I did was set a really boring long term goal. 85 mining. Ever since I gained a few levels I haven't been playing that much. And don't let yourself go do other things in runescape either. Another thing is yoiu can drop every last thing you own so you never come back. I am still addicted to Tip It Forums though #-o Tbfgraphx14Happy to find I'm not the only one who eats glass.
October 31, 200619 yr once you kick the game you're left with alot of spare time, can anyone come up with anything to replace that? thats what i'm struggling with I havn't abandoned the game in any way, but I play a lot less. I had trouble finding something to fill my time at first, but eventually I found it-right now I'm learning how to draw, and I'm hoping to get into making pixel sigs someday  . October 31, 200619 yr once you kick the game you're left with alot of spare time, can anyone come up with anything to replace that? thats what i'm struggling with If you're involved in some athletic activity, train more. If you're in school, study more. If you're out of school, go out and socialize more, and/or spend time improving upon your job skills. If you have a family, read to your kids, kick a ball around with them. Read. Exercise. Volunteer. Work a little more if you need the cash. There's lots to do out there in RL.
