I am addicted to Runescape.

once you kick the game you're left with alot of spare time, can anyone come up with anything to replace that?

thats what i'm struggling with

If you're involved in some athletic activity, train more.

If you're in school, study more.

If you're out of school, go out and socialize more, and/or spend time improving upon your job skills.

If you have a family, read to your kids, kick a ball around with them.

Read.

Exercise.

Volunteer.

Work a little more if you need the cash.

There's lots to do out there in RL.

yeah, I could do with actually getting a job.

Just moved into college and coping with the work, but i should put more time in.

reading is a task i undertake anyway volunteer work would really suit me, but never got round to it. some great suggestions!, thanks!

I feel myself drifting back into the game, i'm logged on right now. And i'm not doing anything.

...I feel myself drifting back into the game, i'm logged on right now. And i'm not doing anything.

You're never un-addicted. Seriously. If you're not going cold turkey, you need to set seemingly drastic limits on yourself and stick to them.

Say 1 or 2 hours per day, with at least 1 or 2 days where you don't play at all.

If you can't keep to that, you need to sit back and literally say out loud to yourself "If I play anymore, that means I've ceded control of my life to an online video game."

Because that's what you've really done.

It likely will not get any easier to log off, or not log on some days. Until you find other stuff to occupy your time, and get used to limiting yourself. Each time you stop yourself from playing when you really want to play is going to be equally as hard as the first time you cut yourself off.

Seriously, it's going to be a battle. Every day. Kicking all addictions are.

I don't understand the attraction of this game or the reason for the addiction.

I thought i had left it behind in september but it's crept up on me again since then,

there are only a few reasons why i'd want to play, and they're all people who's email addresses i have. so i'm unsure why i keep coming back.

apart from pixel wealth there is nothing.

why. goddamnit.

thanks for advice there, and sorry for hijacking this portion of the thread! o.o

I find that if I'm not playing RS, I'm playing doing something else that is equally a "waste of time". Times when I'm playing RS less, I'm playing yahoo hold-em poker, or some single player video game, or youtube, or myspace, or xbox, or gameboy, or watching a movie. So, all-in-all I'm be just as un-productive...just doing it in a change of scenery.

The best way I've found to control myself a bit is to play RS as a reward. For example, don't let myself play on Saturday until I do 2 hours of chores.

Congratz on relizeing that hard fact to relize. I hope that you can over come this painful addiction. Once you relize the fact you can work on solving it.

I will shoot down any one with my bitting wit, and sarcasm!

What POSSIBLE reason would someone have to make a fake like that?Does he profit from faking a picture like that? Does it help him at all?Jesus Christ, stop being so suspicious. This is Tip.it for God's sake, not RuneHQ. -_-

i like the game alot, but i can swear i've never played more than 5 hours straight, or more than 6 during a day. I just don't have the time for it, there's a lot of other things i want to do, and during the weekdays i just don't play because it would mess up my entire school work and stuff like that. I also don't play on sundays till i have all my work done, so i'm conservative about playing but i wish i was when i'm doing work of course.

If you are addicted, set an easy goal each day. Say 40 pest points. Get about 10, do your homework, then get the rest. If it is still early, go out and do something with your friends. When you get home, if it is late, go to bed. If it is early, play for about as long as you might watch TV. Sleep in the next morning, and go right to school. That way you wont "be in the middle of something" when it is time for class.

This is pretty much what i try to do. Get on tip.it for 20 mins after school. Do homework. Play rs a little, go hang out with friends, play rs instead of TV.

Wanna hear my philosophy?

I go to school, do as well as I can there, and all that good jazz. During track or cross country season I'll run after school with the team before coming home, or if it's not season I'll just come straight home.

I immediately plop down at my kitchen table and finish all of my homework right there and then.

I take anything I need to study with me to a quiet part of my house and take my time studying with my materials.

THEN....and ONLY then....do I allow myself free time. Furthermore, if I have the opportunity to do something with my friends, I'll do that before anything on the computer. If we can't, then I'll sit down here and check the news, see what's going on in the technology world, visit tip.it...and finally log onto runescape.

That's always worked well for me. I treat runescape as what it should be, a game that is played in one's free time.

HOW you get off your runescape addiction is very important, so I hope that helped. :)

Meh, I get home, I do a little bit over a light snack, but until like 8PM I don't do anything after that :XD: . With 3 siblings the house is extremely noisy throughout the day, so the only time I can really focus and work productively is at night.

Speaking of which, gota get back to my god d**n 2 hours of AP Bio homework. I swear, my teacher's a sadist...

I still do not understand how you can get addicted to a game. Your real life is more important, what are you going to do when you get out of college (University would have been better through). Play the game? I don't think so. What would you do with no education? As who would you work? As a plumber? No? As a driver? You need a drivers license buddy. If you don't want to walk around with a shovel, digging ground for miserable 7-9$ per hour, you need to study (No offence to people that actually do it.) You definately are not going to live for your parents money in your parents house until you get to 60-70 years old of course, so what will you do when you will get out of college? Think about what I said, time is a very valuable thing, so is knowledge.

Wow. I had not idea that this was going to get so many people talking.

As for what I am going to do with the empty time not that I am going to be playing the game a lot less, I am planning on studying and working for my classes a lot more. I am taking 5 different classes so I am supposed to be studying a lot anyways. I'll just be actually doing what I am supposed to be doing.

I do have some good friends that I can study with and that can help lend a hand with keeping me off of the game. The problem with that is that I spend so much time on the game that I don't really have a lot of friends at the college. Most of the friends that I have are on the game. Sad huh.... <.<

Good job on taking this huge step, are you keeping up with your one hour or less promiss?

Personally I've not been affected by this game as much as you have, since I have parents who limit my time. But I have to admit that I have been addicted to this game, before I quit and left.

I do believe that I am addicted, im not afraid to admit that I'm addicted, but I dont really feel like doing much about it. It does cause my grades to slip a little bit but I'm able to control myself and have never come close to failing a class. My real life isnt all that interesting, my rs like is alot of interesting then my real life. As sad as this might sound to you it is true and I love to play this game. I don't find something that you enjoy to be a waste of time or anything like that so I tell people this when they say I am wasting my time.

Sorry if I got a little repetative there, that usually happens when I talk about stuff like this

so yea, my point is that My rs life and real life are about on the same level. I spend about as much time on one as I do the other. I still get all my homework done and go to the gym alot. But if I'm not with my friends im on here with my other friends :)

Same here, i'm addicted (well actualy, I WAS addicted). I told myself, it's the beggining of the school term, my membership runs out 3 days before term starts, i'm not going to renew it. I now play about 10mins of runescape a day, and that's just talking to people. But mostly I look at these forums and talk to friends. It's woroked, I have not been playing more than an hour of runescape a day for the past 6-8 weeks or so. Wow I don't know how long I havn't been playing for lol

I don't see how watching videos on Youtube all day is any better then playing RS all day.. I play 2-3 hours a day averagely on weekday, that's after working a 9 to 5 job, and squeezing in band practice every 2 or 3 days. My social life isn't that bad either, my friends usually still come to my place uninvitedly, that's a good sign, right? :-k

I don't really see any reason to quit playing, maybe cut down a little if it's as worse as you say.

well it's true i believe i am addicted but i wouldn't go so far to skip school or fail a test (well maybe science  , nao mrs mulley..bia bf will understand).

i can't even play at school (can get past websense but not that sad) and find it much more enjoyable to go play football or just mess around scrambling food.

Mrs Mulley cries lol. 1 class made her run out crying 3 times lol.

Well I got to the same school as mrmyk so it's the same for me, it's websenced. Tbh, doesn't effect me at all, some losers from the first eyar hacked websence and disabled it, still didn't play, not the only reason I play I get idiots from school annoying me 24/7 and I hate to talk about rs irl, dunno why. Rs in Rs, Rl in either.

I might quit after I get a phat and achieve my goals, maybe not...

The daily goals are just annoying.

I always say to myself something like "Imma make 10k nats today!" on the morning. At 9 PM I find myself just standing at the bank booth with 3k nats.... Then I feel I have to get it done tonight... And that's where it's just baaaad

But I've also had problems with school because of rs... It's mostly because I set these ridiculous goals like 99 cooking in a 1̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâý weeks - which I achieved, after playing like 6 hours a day. Of course I was happy for the level, but I almost literally hadn't been outside, except for school and tennis... And to buy more coke ::'

Good luck with cutting down, I'll try doing that after 99 fm... ^^ oh the irony
