what kind of grades do you get?

Featured Replies

Not sure on how old you need to be for best buy.

On the homework thing, that was my downfall as well. Just find a time to do it, anytime. Doesn't matter if it's at midnight or whatever, or while your watching TV or playing CS. Just do it.

Sam, not having good grades isn't a problem, I know lots of people who've gotten through and done very well in life even though they struggled at school. But it seems like you're attitude is just lazy, which is fine if you've got a family business that you can go into and paid to sit around and not do much, but in the real world, that's the wrong attitude mate. Have a good time, enjoy life, but work as well.

I'm in the UK so we don't really get grade averages, but i'm predicted 10 A*'s for GCSE and got an A* in French a year early. Just got to live up to those grades now

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

I'ma go with my natural instinct and think that skating career thing was sarcasm, but ty. It probally wont happen, something I'd love to shoot for though.

Anyway I'm not dumb, I just don't do homework. I'd rather do other things.

i respect your decision and everything, but think of it this way: work hard four years and enjoy the rest of your life, or, enjoy four years and work hard the rest of your life

of course, i don't know what you plan on doing, so i'm not going to make any judgments, but its something to keep in mind

Pft... Comon, you know that's untrue.

So after you get your (let's say) doctor's degree, you can enjoy life. Wow... What a popular myth. Get rid of it...now.

How easy life is depends on many factors, if you're a doctor or (let's say) an average 8-hour employee is very different. If you think the 8-hour is hard, try working in the ER for 3 days straight?

Wow really something to enjoy huh?

What I'm saying is, don't believe myths. They're just a bunch of bs (although some might be partially or fully true) designed to motivate youngsters.

"I Didn't Promise You a Rose Garden" A book, whose title really describes life in my opinon.

I'm quite aware of the stresses of being a doctor (or prettymuch anything medical related) and whats why i don't want to be a doctor.

My quote has nothing to do with your idea of a doctor in that it has nothing to do with making money. its about enjoying life. many, many people have already stated that you need money in life. And you have to agree (no "be a monk" or silly responses like that, please). How do you make money? with a job. Sure, jobs make money, but what good is it if you do not enjoy your job?

recieving an education gives the opportunity to... have more options in life, more opportunities to find something you'll really like to do, for the rest of your life

also, i've volunteered at hospitals and i know that many of the doctors chose their jobs because they enjoy helping people. you're the one who should get rid of the myth

The 'System of Grades' is very different in The Netherlands.

(so no A's, or --% either)

But Its not very good at the moment... #-o

Wow. That's what I'm saying you moron. I AM ONLY 14 I turn 15 in a month, I'm saying I don't need other people my age to tell me what to do. I didn't say "an F" I have a few actually. I'm getting mad because you people are assuming that I'm an idiot. No, I'm not. I don't try, because I don't care. How am I related to nad?

Hah. I laughed at that..I'm nothing like my parents idiot, I'm a little bit like my brother...but then again we are totally different to. I guess you are the dumb one if you think I have to be the same as my brother just to make him my brother.

If you don't value the opinions of those your age, then you have no hope whatsoever. They're at the same point in life as you, so they know exactly what you're going through which people older (which include many of the so called 'at most 15 year olds' that posted things for you) aren't, however they still have been there and done that, so their input is just as important.

In regards to the relation comment, you're just making a bigger fool of yourself. Two people who are related by blood, same parents, inheriting different variations of genes from the same source, only a few years apart in age (which means you guys must interact pretty often) and being in the same living environment, and you expect to be completely different. Wow, that makes sense.

Whatever, I'm done arguing, nothing seems to get through that thick skull of yours. You say you're not dumb, just a lazy person with a terrible work ethic, well do us a favor and prove it.

In my eyes, you (Sam) are an idiot. I don't care what you think of my judgment or how that I judge you too quickly. You are just so lazy. I will laugh one day when you wake up in Nad's attic. You wake up and your brother is yelling at you to get a job because you just got fired from some retail store. You put on your one dollar clothing and walk downstairs. I can picture you just watching TV until someone forces you to get a job. Then a revelation comes. You then realize that you should have done better in school, and this is not how you wanted to lead your life because teenage years last 7 years while adulthood lasts decades. I only hope the last line is true.

God this is pathetic. I get a couple F"s, and you people say I'm going to be a failure for life basically. Say what you want. I guarentee you I wont be living in my brothers attic\basement. Why do you keep saying his? How do you know what will happen? Sure I'm thick headed, but you guys know nothing about me so I don't see why you keep saying these foolish things.

Ah, yes, just like Einstein and countless other mathemathicians/scientists/physicists who failed their classes at school simply because they thought it was a waste of time or they hated their teachers.I must say it's very ignorant to say "if your grades are low, chances are you are lazy in every other way as well". If you have a brain, you realize grades are nothing more but print marks on a paper.

There are countless people that didn't even fully graduate and they earn quite nicely. Want a corny example? Bill Gates. He's a dropout. I still fail to see how he's lazy or a failure, he has earned more in his life than probably all the people on off topic forum will ever earn in their lifetimes.

You can predict things only to a certain extent, and IMO that does not cater to life as a whole. I know this because my father came from relatively poor conditions.

Last summer we went to visit his best childhood friend in California, he has no education whatsoever, and he has become a millionaire because he worked up his way in a shoe franchise and now owns five stores. He started simply as a storage operator.

Education doesn't make you smart, that's something that comes from your personal observations, reading the news, developing yourself mentally. Smartness is entirely different than book knowledge. If you don't know how to apply knowledge you can have ALL the PhD's in the world and you'll earn less than a guy who's a dropout.

Now, again, I don't discourage people from educating themselves, just don't try to feel superior to people who may have less motivation to do so if they can justify it. Believe it or not, despite the supposed odds, they may be earning more one day.

Just to point out something.

Remember, Bill Gates did not make the original windows program, he bought it. So without running into two certain people, he would not be the 4th richest person who ever lived.

I hate to say it, but that was back then. Nowadays you couldn't become a garbage collector without a highschool diploma where I live.

Then take Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniack. They did make their fortune and Jobs, much more "successful' than Wozniack, did drop out.

But as insane said, that was back then. During that time, there wasn't a well established market for what they did so going to school wouldn't have helped much anyway. They invented an entirely new market with what they did... You'd be hard pressed to find something now that you can't go to school for.

you are simply taking rare cases and using them to your advantage. i will admit, i have learned more when i was working 3 jobs at one time then i have ever learned in school. you learn much more when you are actually performing a job than sitting in a classroom memorizing useless drivle. but employers DO NOT CARE. my dad knows a lot more than any programmer with a college education where he works (he was in the military for 10 years and did not go to college) but b/c a little piece of paper says so, he knows "less" then them, deeming him a lower salary. the only thing that keeps his salary in competative range with these "useless college kids" as he calls them is his superior resume.

of course you do not need an education to work: construction, labor, your own business, etc...but an eductation hones your skills and allows you to have more options.

my grades are suffering in calculus b/c me and my teacher have a "hate/hate" relationship. i cannot stand her, and she cannot stand me...I know i won't get a B in there for the semester so I make her job a living hell for being a B to me in the first place. i tried getting help from her and she just tells me to go look at my notes or talk to another student...so i understand where youre coming from with "hating" ones teachers.

3/4 of the year didn't even reach that by the end of year 11 (leaving year)

We're not assuming anything. You have bad results, a bad attitude, you're bum lazy and have total resilience to take any advice whatsoever even from your peers. So yeah, in conclusion, you are an idiot, wake up and smell the real world. Because your bohemian attitude won't get you anywhere.

Oh right like that means every person is as likely to get rich as the next no matter what education they have. FYI, that's like 3 people. There are countless others out there who drop out and only earn slightly over minimum wage. You're pointing out the improbable. You can do that to basically everything. Our predictions and assumptions are not facts.
