It's the most (terrible) time.... of the year...

Well now, we have just passed thanksgiving and now are moving towards a new time, the Christmas period, filled with high prices and a massive "buy! Buy! Buy!" need by all people, well except a couple. I, for one, HATE this time more than anything else. You may call it jealousy, as I get to hear about all sorts of kids getting $3,000+ presents, while all I get is a day off from school.

It could be the "in your face" ness of the holiday, along with (American president) bush claiming "if you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t celebrate Christmas, you are not American" well, I guess now i'm a terrorist. But I think its one thing that annoys me more than anything... is the seemingly no meaning behind it. Yeah, I know all about the "Jesus died for our sins" part of it, but tell the truth, who really observes that part? Go around and poll most kids about Christmas and you will learn that most of them don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t even know that is the truth about Christmas, (in a poll by my school, 80% said gifts, 15% said family 4% said Jesus, and 1% said "don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t celebrate")

Besides, with all of the political correctness going on, who would really follow, as now people just say "happy holidays" once again denouncing the "Christ" is CHRISTmas. Another thing that bugs me about it is all the TV/movie specials. Yes, I get that (generic villain) wants to stop Christmas and (generic hero) has to save it and ends up learning about family. Or, in the kid̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s movies, it ends with a "family, yeah right, it's about PRESENTS!!!̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

My grandmother always makes me get up at six for Christmas morning mass. Some family's go to mass on Christmas, but most don't. Also this holiday isn't about Christ death(thats easter) its about his birth. IT has gotten alot more in you face and gernic over the years, but that is just human nature to forget what the real thing is about and indulge them selves in it.

All I hate is the music. I hate Christmas music more then almost everything, except Disney and High School Musical, that is.

I hate chrismas music too.The only time that i did like it was last year when 2 people beat the crap of each over a Xbox360 when the backround music started singing oh it's the most wonderful time of the year.

I hate the modern carols, but I love the very old ones.

I hate the commercial nature of christmas, I hate the 'christmas #1' rubbish, I hate the cards and all the plastic-y singing.

I like the family aspect and I like the gift-giving.

I have final exams in December... yeah its horrible alright... <_

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

welcome at the club i dont get presents at christmas either :(

mine parents said it distracted us of the real meaning so we dont get a single presetn at christmas

If you think that's bad, I have mine in January - once I have got my new toys and am busy playing with them - too busy to bother revising.

I agree. Presents have killed the meaning of Christmas. Same with Easter. I live in a Jewish city, but if you go around, you'll find that a lot of people "celebrate" Christmas. Ask them the meaning of Christmas, and they'll blubber some crazy nonsense. To real Christians, Christmas still has a meaning. Hopefully we can keep it alive. And my family rarely gives presents, usually just one per person in our family.

And the music...If it's a hymn, saying you hate is kind of offensive. You're entitled to your opinion, so if they are hymns you hate, I won't go berserk over it. But songs like Jingle Bells, and crazy little kid songs/carols, I hate them too.

And this just adds to my hate of media people, department stores crazy about clothes/money, and "popular" idiots.

I am allowed to hate any music I like. To find someone else's music tastes offensive is over the top, I'd grow a thicker skin if I were you.

Agreed.. everything is getting too commercial, and Christmas is the perfect example of it. :|

At least, I think that.

Actually, I don't think it's the whole lyrics and music..(except for some of them...)..it's the fact that you hear it. Non stop. For. 2 months. Which, is my version of a nightmare.

In fact christmas is actually partly about giving gifts. think about. Jesus gave us the GIFT of life. so we give others gifts to show how much we care about them. Caring is the meaning of Christmas. and when you think about it, 99% of the answers resulted in people caring about each other.

What is wrong with a few songs etc? You want christmas to be a miserable time of year. The amount of depressing people in the world is growing and that right there is proof of it. they are trying to get you happy etc. That is more caring. it seems to me you are against people caring about each other.

Bush actually said that? i dont celeberate christmas... that racist peice of crap

Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....

I'm an atheist and more me the meaning of Christmas for me is: spend money on gifts, food, and wine. And a little break from school and work. Because that what it seems like today. Buy Chirstmas tree, buy a lot of food, buy hundred-dollar gifts and feast. Nothing of this Family stuff, thankful, etc. :?

good thing for me im a complete atheist, so i dont get all tied up about the commercial nature of xmas these days. what DOES annoy me is the 'political correctness' in the UK these days.

eg, theyre not called christmas lights anymore, they have be called 'holiday lights' so as not to 'offend muslims or Jews'

also, theres some campaigning by some dreg who wants christmas changed to 'wintertide' because it doesn't incorporate our 'muslim and Jewish communities into the true spirit of Christmas'

Next name change: The holiday holiday.

The thing I like least about Christmas is all the people complaining and saying how it isn't about presents. Christmas is only about one thing: celebrating Jesus' birth. If you celebrate it by spending time with your family, great. If you celebrate it by giving presents, great. Neither one is more important than the other.

As an atheist I don't believe in any of it. As a consumer I celebrate Christmas as a day for giving and receiving gifts.

reading some of the responses made me increase into my disliking of the season. If you are an athiest, why do you celebrate Christ's birth? sure its "tradition". but your continuing the tradition of a religion you dont believe in.

Atheists don't celebrate Jesus' birth. We celebrate an arbitrary day, we have fun, give gifts and do things with our families.

Why shouldn't we be allowed to have fun and give gifts when other people are?

Exactly. Nothing that says everyone else can't have one fun day during the year.

Yep, that's the best part.

All around, ignoring the negatives, I like this time of year more than any other. :P
