Atheists don't celebrate Jesus' birth. We celebrate an arbitrary day, we have fun, give gifts and do things with our families.

You should be allowed to... but my only proboly is when people celebrate it and call it christmas. Call it "day off for gifts or something"... but my only problem is that christmas is really just there. there is a deep religious signifigance behind it, yet few people pay attention. I actually know a guy who dreams of commiting a genocide against christians (note: NOT A JOKE), but guess what his favorite day is? christmas. I mean honestly, am I the only one who finds that sickening?

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Why would they change the name of it just because they don't believe in what it was based after? The whole concept of Christmas has completely canged since it was first created, there's no reason to try and fix it.

reading some of the responses made me increase into my disliking of the season. If you are an athiest, why do you celebrate Christ's birth? sure its "tradition". but your continuing the tradition of a religion you dont believe in.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I don't celebrate Christ's birth. I give and receive gifts from family and friends for my own pleasure. I call it Christmas because my family, who are Catholic, celebrate it.

Anesthesia (Again): If the Atheists are the ones giving gifts. They're the ones that have made Christmas almost all about giving gifts. So if there's a SEPARATE holiday, on December 25th if you want, called Gift-giving Day, that would be good. I think its just a time to be happy, and by arguing about correctness (i.e. what you all are doing) you are killing the holiday. So no matter your religion, take a moment and think, does Christmas have to be a Christian holiday? Or can it just be a holiday where everyone gets together, and forgets differences, and actually unify as one world for once.

Christmas is a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Most religions have accepted the fact that He was real, but not all think he was any difference. So I guess yes, Christmas can be celebrated by everyone, since Jesus was real. But it has a different meaning to Christians.
