Thrilled about hunter rewards - Are you? - My thoughts.

Featured Replies

When this skill came out, I was like... bleah. Lame.

And then I got to the rewards. And I'm very impressed. Here's what I think.

How about you, are you as impressed as I am?

1) The bow with long [bleep]ed bolts rocks. Its nearly as good as Karils in damage, and has much better features. You can use it one handed, so you get to use a shield. And you can pick up the bolts. Its very fast, also.

2) The chinchompies rock. They throw almost as fast as knives, and hit serious damage. I haven't tried it on everything, so there might even be more benefits (Do they work well against high levels, like metal dragons?) But even from what limited I know now, they are fantastic.

3) The black salamander is simply the best weapon in the game. Wow. With its versatility and power, you can hardly argue this. It uses all three attacks, and hits hard on all of them, and has a fast speed.

The only drawbacks to these weapons is that the ammo is hard to get. Takes a long time to collect them yourselves. You have to track razorbacks for the bow bolts, and you only get 6 bolts per [bleep]e. You have to catch the chompies, and it takes hours to get enough for miinutes of fun. And harlander and swamp tar is needed for the salamander.

The good thing is that you get the ammo while leveling the skill.

4) The butterflies are as good as a super potion. Drawback is you have to use it on a friend, not yourself. I have a feeling the quest will give you a way to use it on yourself. Just a hunch.

5) Thieving gloves seem to be effective. I tested them on heros and saw a significant difference, but not overwhemling. I'd like them to be more effective.

6) Capes. Well, okay, for me, this is in the "big deal" category. But I haven't gotten the level needed for the best cape yet, so maybe I'm just naive.

And more importantly, when you figure out how do to the training efficiently, its really a fun, easy-to-level skill! Go figure. :P

If you've tried it and got frustrated, read on.

Tips on training efficiently - It can be a frustrating skill with the crowds, but heres some ways to make it fun no matter how many people are training.

1) Butterflies - You can really powertrain with these guys. The trick is finding a spawn on ONE spot. Just stand where it spawns and catch the same one over and over. You barely have enough time to catch and release before the next one comes. Its like a 3 second respawn. Its quite fun, and the time goes by fast, and the experience racks up fast.

2) Chompies - Chinchomps are great exp, and more than one person can effectively train in an area. Again, the trick is to set up your boxes right where the dudes respawn. Use as many traps as your level allows, and you will barely be able to keep up. And save them! They are stackable.

3) Falcon training - This is really cool. Finding an empty spawn is a challenge, but once you find one, stand one square away from the spawn, attack him as soon as he spawns, drop the fur, bury the bone, and put your mouse on the respawn spot. Its only about a 4 second respawn. You can really crank up the xp. When you stand right next to them, you rarely miss.

4) Lizard training - Only bother this before you can do chompies. They are super hard to find a respawn thats not being used, and its very frustrating. But for low levels, swamp lizards are great experience if you can find as many trees to use as your level allows. But just skip these.

5) Forget the bait - Don't waste your time. You don't need them. You'll be so busy setting up traps and collecting critters without bait, it won't take you long to realize its a waste of time baiting, and smoking too.

Things not to train -

Birds, Deadfalls, Pitfalls, and Tracking are things you can try to have fun, but not good for power levelling. Although tracking the razorbacks gives you the ammo you need for the bow, and the exp is not horrible.

One tip on tracking... just use the same burrow over and over again, so you can predict the different paths that come up after some practice. Makes it much faster when you know which bush to search.

I don't believe I like this skill as much as I do. You?

any tips to get me from 10-15 without being bored senseless, as i get very frustrated trying to find the right places to search on hunting kebbits?

Another note about the chinchompas is that they are multi-target. Great for castle wars.

The capes are awesome if you need to do any kind of long-distance running, like mining for essence. Spottier cape is -5 weight.

Haven't got round to trying the gloves yet, but yes, the black salamander is an awesome weapon.

EDIT: forgot to add that the black salamander is brilliant against prayer beasts.

Those blue birds where you track the snow kebbits.

Runescape ingame name: Rmond (on the forum this name was already taken)

I've heard chinchompas have splash damage to. I don't know for sure, but someone tried it out at dagannoths.

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

From what I've seen, the rewards themselves are all quite good, but its the time that it takes to get the ammo and such that is where the problem lies. I have yet to try out the black salamander, however i'm hoping it could be an effective barrowing weapon. Or at least be helpful for quest bosses so you can use the best style on them.

I never realized the hunter crossbow could do that kind of damage. I'll have to try it out.

Just train on birds until you get to 15. You don't have to fight for a training spot, and you can get the "bird hunting" phase out of the way. hehe. 15 will come soon enough.

Thanks for the info. Personally I really loved Hunter since it came out. It has very obvious benefits tough there's still people who find a way to complain about them

All potted up, I was hitting 20's. Didn't use the prayer, but thats just a hair under Karils. Ammo is hard to get, though.

well i think the stuff is actually nice but know im thinking that jagex is doing alot better because people say that farming, con, and hunting stink but i think there the most fun skills which counts the most doesnt it \' :-k

Wow, didn't realize the weapons were so good. I'd dare to say that people might be using hunter crossbows in the caves instead of the karil one, as from what I've seen, the hunter one is MUCH faster (although I will still use my crystal bows for future attempts). And I think the bolts for the hunter bow are just about as hard as the karil bolt racks, especially if you get the tracking thing down to a science.

As for the black salamander, i like the damage, I did like 23+, but the fact is that it most likely won't have much practical application because of how hard swamp tar is to collect. Harralanders are no problem, I have pleanty of them, but I doubt anyone could stand to run around the swamp and collect 300+ units of swamp tar (which = only 20 harras worth of ammo).

Same story for chinchompas. They MAY be a good multi-target weapon, but they are difficult to collect, and monsters and players don't often clump together so that many are effected. It might be good for a P2P war in the wilderness in multicombat, but then again it would be much more effective just to use multi-target ice spells. Now if these can hit unlimited targets in its radius we might have a bit of a problem, tons of players + chinchompas = a helluva lot of quick ranged xp  (which is the same idea people keep having about ice spells when they only hit 9 targets  ).

I forgot about that. I gotta get me a couple of those. Don't know, haven't tried it. But I would bet against it. Jagex only mentioned the benefit of one extra inventory spot.

Actually, salamanders is the easiest one of the bunch. You can kill a slayer monster found in lumbridge caves ( I think its cave slime) that drops 1-9 tar everytime. Let me check another thread real quick.

EDIT: Yep, cave slime is the key. Easy to kill, just need 17 slayer level, a lantern, and antipoison.

Getting 1-9 on every drop will add up very fast, and beats running around picking them up from spawns.

I had to kill some Cave Slimes for Slayer last night and they only dropped one tar each.

Yes, the new bow is very good. 10 Trips bringing 24 [bleep]es back per trip is...1140 Bolts. That's about 2-4 hours depending on how well you know the burrow locations. The bolts range from I think Addy to Rune arrow damage. :) Could be an effective combo in use with the MSB special.

I confirm, but they're not noted. They've actually always been stackable.

You've got it all down. But keep in mind for your complaints about training areas that the skill is brand new and of course people will be wanting to train there as fast as possible.

I had a task to kill 13 Cave slimes for slayer and walked away with 37 Swamp tar and as someone above me said as well, they've always been stackable.

i agree, chinchompa's are great exp, i reckon the best, i tried red chinchompa's at 63 and they failed my box traps so often i just ended up giving up on them, normals ones r the best, also once u get 1k chinchompa's u can sell em for 500k to level 45 + rangers (500gp each) which isn't bad =)

2vuhgcn.png

Do you say chinchompas are faster xp than salamanders because of your hatred for crowded spots or are they realy faster? (4 traps at red salamanders compared to red chinchompas)

I enjoyed what I did with the skill so far, im only level 23 however. I've been too busy working on 91 rcing to train it much. Hopefully when I'm done the training spots would have died down and I can get to level 73 for those imps :D
