private schools: for or against?

well while i was farming today i got onto the conversation of private schools. Going to one myself i fought for them while my friend fought against them. I will list the arguments used and you can decide who wins + your views on the subject.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

for:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

- people can choose to pay if it means better equipment

 

 

 

- everyone can try for the exam but only a few can get in (like in jobs)

 

 

 

- parents choice whether they want children in private or public sector

 

 

 

- in this age getting the best headstart on life is very valuable

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

(might have more points but cant remember at the moment)

I dont agree with any of the againsts. Good grades in public school dont mean as much as good grades in private school. Also public schools are all diferent just like the private ones, so an equal education is hard to provide. I myself go to private school btw. I live in the province with the second worst public schools in the country, in the city with possibly the second highest crime rate per capita in the country. I pay for a decent education, and a better social atmosphere where I dont fear for my safty, and dont get ridiculed because im good at science and math. Also my class is smaller than 33 people. They public schools have to teach to the dumbest student. maby more later

Currently, people at my school go just because they have to. This place, people go because they want to succeed. I like that in a person. That's me for ya. I think I'll do great at this new school and enjoy it very much!

I'de just like to point out, that the majority of people don't have the money to pay for university fees. That's what student loans are for.. which a lot of people are still paying off in their late 30's, early 40's.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also, college, and training, if you go to it when you first leave school, is free in the UK.. don't know where you're from though.

If anything, the technology makes teachers lazier, the smartboards at my school let teachers write the whole class noted for the year over the summer or something, then they use them for the whole teaching career at the school.

Good grades have nothing to do with what type of school you go to, as long as you have good work ethic, you can get good grades at both public and private schools, equally as easily or hard.

You aren't 'too rich', some people get scholarships to the schools, and education is a way better thing to spend money on than other possibilities, depending on the school, it can help the kid.

For the most part the education in both public and private schools is equal, plenty of the teachers here have come from public schools and a few have moved to public, the main difference if for the teachers. At a catholic school like this, you get mroe holidays, but for the most part, public schools pay more.

The main attraction of private schools is, I guess, better teachers, since the good ones tend to get snapped up by the higher pay. Still, I wouldn't want to teach at a private school here, mainly because of the high proportion of snobby kids and parents who think their children deserve leniency and privileges beyond education for the simple fact that they pay more money.

I would personally say that having religious education is unequal in and of itself. There are simply far too many active religions and denominations thereof for anything short of a university to cover in a fair manner. You are also being inconsiderate to those whose beliefs preclude religious instruction.

It depends on where you live really. For countries that aren't really developed, private schools are a must. But like right now, I don't go to a private school, but won't have a hard time getting into decent universities.

This is a dumb thread, I mean really we're suppose to debate whether there should be private schools? It's up to the child and parents to decide if they want to go to a private school and really doesnt affect anyone else. The arguement equal education is dumb too. I mean if you could get better education than in public schools than get it. No reason you should have to suffer because others aren't as wealthy as you. Tough that education isn't equal if they're private schools but like it's been said you can earn success where ever you go to school at.
