Do any of you favor the villanous character in movies or games? I can remember as a child wanting to be the Big Boss when wed play James Bond. I dont know why but I eventually got sick of all these hero typ characters and began to favor themore villanous types. Like Darth Vader and the Dark Side! Does anyone else prefer being the villan than the good modest hero?

There are a lot of movies where the main characters are actually bad guys, but you are made to feel for them. Such as Reservoir Dogs, the main characters are murders and crooks. Yet you still are supposed to feel for them.

These are called tragic heroes. I.E. Anikan in Star wars, House, ect. They are good, but do bad things. And before their demise (ok maybe not house), they realize their actions and weaknesses, making you feel for them.

Personally i like the characters who aren't quiet tragic heroes because they start with bad qualities (not quite bad, but just bad problems like anger, loneliness) and then realize these qualities and then changes them.

It reminds me, and has taught me that anyone can change. You just have to see the problem.

Yes, I adored Silas from the Da Vinci Code.

He was one of the most interesting character i have read about in a book. Period. Hero or viallian he was an interesting character.

I side with the bad guys in most games, because their powers are a whole lot better. To swing at them with a light saber, or one hit kill with lighting. It is pretty easy to see what is the better offense chacter.

The good guys always seem so weak, and the bad guys so strong.

Which brings up a question of why the bad guys are so freaken dumb and lose.

Huh why? They have the power, the intel, but they get their butts kicked. Well the sterotipical villiane does anyways.

The only villans I really like are:

- Francisco Scaramanga (The Man With The Golden Gun)

- Franz Sanchez (Licence To Kill)

- Gabriel Shear (Swordfish)

- John Doe (Se7en)

The first two, purely on the grounds that they aren't superficial Bond villians with their high-tech and extravogant plans to "take over the world", but more so the average criminal.

Gabriel, associates strongly with the first two. That and he's a government pawn - to a point. And he also kills a lot of terrorists as you learn in the end, can't hate a guy like that can you?

And who doesn't agree with Spacey in Se7en? Cold, sheer cold.

I vouch for them in the movies, Although I will always be let down since the bad guys hardly ever win.

So true. How original would be a movie which in bad guys would actually win? For example, they would manage to get those nuclear missles and dominate the whole world and kill the hero of the movie.

Gush, I guess I have to direct a movie which in the hero gets hit by bullets, servants of evil don't pass out after one punch and eternal evilness wins. I guess movie makers don't want the audience feel sad/shocked when they leave the theater.

At least it wouldn't be boring. Heros - Something happens and they defend world for no reason.

Villian - World or hero has done something to them and they want revenge

Now which has a better story behind it?

Sometimes, like in Leon, you couldn't help but feel sympathy for Jean Reno's character, even though he was a heartless assassin. Probably because he was in the presence of a pure evil character.

To answer your question, sometimes, but only if they have something a bit more about them than your simply evil villain.

Kevin Spacey as Verbal Kint/Keyser S̮̦̉̉ze in the Usual Suspects. Gotta love him.

Kevin Spacey as any villian is good.

Just like Rick said, him as John Doe in Se7en was awesome.

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

Requiem for a Dream - Everybody's lives are screwed up.

Paths of Glory - They die.

Ying xiong (aka Hero) - He dies, they suicide

I saw those coming :P

But think if someone would be brave enough to produce a total anti-hero movie, like which in the followed person would be a bad guy and we would watch his plans to take over the world, kill hero, sunk the world ect.
