oh me!

but last time i was not smart enuff to know wad is holiday event

And your still not smart enough to SPELL CORRECTLY!

Was that really needed? If you want to go that route then I could say that you're not smart enough to use correct grammar.

It should be "And YOU'RE (a conjunction of 'you' and 'are') still not smart enough to spell correctly".

Whatever it is, bringing nostalgia to classic players won't really get you brownie points. Other than "Wow, you've been playing for way too long." replies it didn't get me much else. :P

other than having problems with still "fear"ing gated areas. i don't care too much about being old school or not. early 2001, and they never found my knives 8-) :-k :-$

in 10 days rs will pass the 6th year mark of being public version, so soon 6 yrs for me and many others here *pushes hohto on stage*

O:)

Hey FooK, long time no see! I havn't seen anyone from the RST crew in ages. You still in contact with any of them?

Anyway, I've been on and off since March 2001. The only thing I have to say I miss is PKing being allowed all over RS. It definitely wouldn't work now, but it was fun then, when everyone was much closer in levels. Hmm... let's see if I can remember anything special:

I remember the RS news saying that the 2nd ever server opened around the time I joined. I don't remember if it was there before or after I joined, but I remember that news post.

I also remember being a part of RST (RuneScape Trivia) for awhile, though I didn't really do anything of great importance.

Addy plate was 40k, and at the time 40k was the stuff of dreams.

A huge zone of Varrock and a smaller one in Fally was set aside for Player Owned Houses, which have finally come to be <.<

I specifically remember Bluerose13x making addy kites for people in exchange for 300 or 350 coal (can't remember). Only there were no item banks... people had to use mules.

Heh, well, I'm done for now. I sound like an old man rambling off old tales... and I'm only 18. Wow... to think I've been playing this game since I was 12! My stats definitely don't show it, lol... only ~950 total skills ::'

I'm a Sabre from Feb. 2001 who started because his bro played Cyberwars.

There aren't a whole lot of people who even remember what Cyberwars was, so I'd go with yes.

I remember being deathly afraid of you guys... until I started making armor for Sabres. Business was good :P I very vaguely remember Cyberwars. I remember seeing Sabres making the move over and thinking "Aww crap. Not again..." lol. As a group, you guys were definitely slow to make friends, that's for sure.

I'm old school.

I had an Atari 2600.

I remember when the Nintendo came out.

My first online game was a turn-based multiplayer BBS door game.

I was playing video games before most of you were born.

I was playing LORD when I was 4 years old, and I still own a working Atari 2600 (was actually thinking of hooking it up again today, heh). I was born in 88 so you've probably got me beat, but I wasn't raised by video games, I was raised with them

good way to prove if ur old is get a screenshot of ur details when ur log in and check when it says ur recovs were set. earliest might of been feb 20 something in 2002 i tihnk. also you probably are old school if you know what battle thingz and cyber wars are. and there was that time where i dont remember who used the spell fear to bring moss giants (highest level monster at time) to the ladder of varrock dungeon and it kilkled people as soon as they came down, hahaha funny stuff.

I've been playing since Nov. 2001, on the same char, always F2P. I was level 93 or 94 in classic, with about a 1153 skill total. Now I'm up to level 107 in RS2 with a 1240 skill total. I tend to take breaks of many months, and I'm steadily playing less as time goes on. I tend to play in binge spurts of activity, when something new or interesting catches my attention. I've never been hacked, never shared my account (Gee, I wonder if there is a connection, there).

The only holiday events I missed were party hats (although I bought a couple later, while they were still cheap), and scythes. I was playing during that period, but had other real life priorities during those holiday times.

I remember xcavalierx being one of the first to hit skill total 1000, and everyone congratulating him. Then he got banned; I forget for what reason, exactly.

I remember BlueRose13x, although by that time, she was up to rune kites and 2H, and prices were outrageous. I remember writing on Scapeboard a whole rant that rune was only expensive then as a temporary thing, and one day, with enough rune smithers, I predicted that finished rune items would be selling not far above high-alch, and tradable rares would be worth untold millions. I was either laughed at or ignored at the time.

Fally had only the one western bank. By the time I joined, the wilderness existed, no more pk everywhere, no sabres clan that I can recall, the beer bug had been fixed (and the knife bug was still far in the future), P2P didn't exist (it came out around Feb 2002), and Dragon Slayer was out. Cape dying wasn't out yet, there was lots of excitement when that was introduced. The trade screen had only one window and scamming by pulling items out in the last second was rampant. I was scammed out of a mithril plate that way; it was a big deal at the time.

This was still the time of: click on pick, click on rock, hope rock has something in it, repeat. More skill, as you actually had to time the rocks in your head, to be efficient and competitive. Hard & soft rocks, rock colours, sleeping bags, zzzzz, were all still in the future.

Monsters that were aggressive, always attacked, and they held you for 3 rounds, too. None of this leaving you alone if you're 2x+1 their level, or if you stay in the area long enough. That meant that if you let your hp fall too low while mining or fighting mossies or icies ... the scorps, red spiders, hobgoblins (respectively) could finish you off as you tried to make your escape. That was cool.

The black knight altar was a favourite training place back then, with two knights in a nice spacious altar room, and two more nearby, with no aggravating auto-closing doors. That area is practically deserted, these days.

Certs ... oooo .. how I hated certs (except for cooking). One of the few things I really like about RS2 are notes, and how easy it is to organize your bank in any order you like. That was really hellish to do in classic. Used to take 10 minutes to remove 11 million gp from the bank back then, 2500 gp at a time. Ouch.

Range was more fun back then too. You could use it to efficiently kill steal if you were good enough, allowing you to hold a (regular) giant spawn against faster-clicking intruders. Oh .. the things my mother got called, when I did that.

===

Oh, and I have a working Atari 2600 and a Mattel Intellivision. Or at least I did. I gave them to my children to play with. I hope they're still relatively intact.

===

EDIT: I had to add a couple memories (this is just so fun to reminisce)

The white knights back then looked exactly like players in full iron + 2H. Some players used to dress up like that, just to mess with other player's heads.

You could close bank doors on people, and only one person could interact with an NPC at a time. That meant, that during busy times .. it would be nearly impossible to grab a banker's attention or the str. potion npc, too. A lot more realistic, albeit frustrating (Hey, I'm busy; wait your turn!). And the banker NPCs used to roam the entire bank area, not stand obediently behind counters all day long. I guess they had better unions back then ;P

I remember Bluerose13x practically inventing the "modern" merchanting that we take for granted in today's RS. She leveraged her smithing levels to buy vast quantities of bars, often in direct trades for her rune items, allowing her to level smithing faster than the Gowers ever expected one person to do. I remember the rumour mill of the time saying that the Gowers were really pissed; because of her smithing, free players had access to rune Battles and 2H, before the pay version was ready to be rolled out in Feb 2002. Originally, the Gowers had intended the rune Battle and 2H to be the quest rewards for the first pay quests, and that Battles and 2H would be switched to member's only objects. But since they were already in player's hands, in the free game, thanks to Bluerose13x, the Gowers had to come up with something new, and Dragon weapons were born. Actually, rune Battle and 2H were member's only for a short while when P2P was first introduced, but then were switched back, after a short while (weeks?). Now that's a good example of emergent gameplay ;D

Battle and 2H were amazing back then, because there were no weapon speeds. So imagine having a Battle (with Kite), or 2H (no Kite), hitting as fast as a scimmy. Fun times.

Similarly, there were only one type of arrow and one type of bolt. Xbow bolts tended to do a bit more damage, so people tended to train range with bows (and the cheaper arrows), and to pk and spawn-hold with xbow & bolts.

Again, I missed out on a lot of stuff, like good and bad prayer, and/or magic, and hiding. I missed getting a chance to play with the fear spell.
