farming

I have no idea how to train it effectively and don't feel like learning right now.

I mean, I got to 40 farming entirely from doing quests. :-X

ditto.

it takes time, and ALOT of money if you want to level it fast. It also requires ALOT of laws so there you go 300gp per patch, and one good trip would cost you not exactly sure but close to 2.1k i guess, even more if you want to go to patches far from tele spot. Many factors :o

Farming is easy from 40-80. Other levels are hard.
Actually, it's just as easy; it just takes longer.

Hmm... maybe I meant "Farming is exciting from levels 40-80, then it just becomes time-consuming"

I can smell the arguement now... I'd have to agree with you though. :\

*psst* You're ugly :XD: (Inside joke to all those wondering)

One of the reasons I like farming is the quality of player you find Farming.

Not to be a Farm Supremacist or anything, but Farmers are just better than everybody else :P

I think people who Farm are generally more mature. Granted, there's an awful lot of "plant and run" (if you're trying to maintain all four major farming spots as well as hops and bush patches), but when you're in a patch with downtime, Farmers are more friendly and mature.

Walk from the Catherby fishing area spam-fest, then walk to the Catherby farming patch. It's like walking from mayhem of Times Square into the calm of Central Park.

I prefer the park.

Agree, as earlier mentioned.. it has all to do with not getting instant reward(exp) for your actions..And, as I feel, mainly the younger players have serious problems with the lack of immediate reward...

Pretty much every tree, fruit tree and allotment plant can be protected, either by paying the farmer to watch them, or planting a particular flower that will protect those crops against disease.

If you use tip.it's guide, you won't ever lose another crop again.

you have some valid points, but once you get to a high farming lvl

-you realize that the only good xp comes from trees, which cost a lot of money

-you realize that master farmers not only give out bad seeds (hops and bushes are next to worthless) but also rarely have good allotment or herb seeds AND are horrible xp compared to pyramid plunder

BUT

-you wonder why your herblore level is so low and realize that its only because you need to get the supplies yourself to break even

-you remember that you can get lots of seeds from your kingdom

-you realize that you can make money by ranarr farming

-you realize that herblore and farming are two wonderful skills to combo train

SO

-you head over to the official forums

-you spend several hundred thousand coins on ranarr seeds, snape grass, and vials

-you farm ranarrs and make p pots

-you sell the p pots in bulk at low prices to merchants and still make profit

AND

-you put half the cash you have in your bank into the coffers

-you keep your approval rating up and get rewards every once in a while

-you get hundreds of tree seeds a month

SO

-you get two levels up much higher than you thought you could

-you get a decent amount of cash

-you get two skills ranked higher than you could ever get with a week's work

I will agree that farming isn't the best skill in the game, but its not near as bad as people think it is.

word 8-)

Knitting. At level 1, you can make fuzzy mittens. At level 50, fuzzy rainbow sweaters. At level 99? Fuzzy pink toe socks.

Oh yeah.

I love Farming. Not my best skill, but I love it. To whoever said farmers are more mature, I totally agree. I often chat to people when I'm harvesting, asking what they're planting etc. I made a great friend while at the Port Phasmatys patch.

I recommend always using supercompost. Only pay farmers if need be. Don't pay farmers for every allotment, MOST patches will live with supercompost. It also increases your harvest. You get a MINIMUM of 5 items from herb and allotment patches by using supercompost.

I got 27 watermelons off ONE PATCH. I was stoked. :D.

I like it.

Lol, Hence the 70.

Ok, ok, Completey money drain, But it's nice having that level that not many others don't.

I would go to 99 if I had the money, I don't find it boring either.

A complete money drain?? Not really. You only lose large amounts of cash if you want to quickly level with trees and fruit trees.

I love farming, its one of my favourite skills atm, and a few months back it was the only reason I kept members.

Especially with the disease-free herb patch, i got more herbs in less time and my kingdom gives me at least one spirit seed a month which I pie up and plant

I think it's a little boring. Also, waiting for your plants to grow isn't my idea of fun :-\
Who in their right mind would stand by the patch to wait for their crops to grow? I'm gonna be a bit mean but people who do that are stupid... You plant your seeds and go off to do something else.... Its as simple as that.. why don't people understand this concept?! Most of the people that dislike farming say the same crap... Why should i sit there and wait for my plants to grow? You don't dummy you plant go train melee or some other skill.... Its not that hard to understand.

I don't understand the folks that wait at patches, either. I find that if I work 4 patches at once, and work the bush patches in Rimmy (near the ol' homestead) and Ardougne, I stay plenty busy.

I don't farm often, and I do it in a relatively noobish fashion (I so many low level seeds I can't bring myself to just drop), but when the mood strikes me to farm, I really enjoy.

I also like the fact that it gives me an excuse to hit 3-4 banks and 3-4 different stores pretty regularly on every lap. Quite surprising the useful stuff you can pick up in the store on the cheap. \'

Farming was at first very unpopular because it wasn't possible to grind it, like you would any of the other skills. But nowadays people are starting to show some patience.

Then can i suggest doing royal trouble and Managing Your Kingdom, lots of tree and fruit seeds for nothing. Just started farming thanks to MYK and leveling nice and steady.

I don't especially like farming. It's a hassle.

Try reading one of those farming guides out there, they are awful!

1. Take these items from bank

2. Go here, do that. If you don't have enough inv space, go back to bank.

3. Go there, do that again.

4. Get more items from bank

5. Get some pineapples for compost

6. remember to pay your farmer to look after your crops

7. buy more sacks and baskets for your crops

8. Go kill some dagannoths so you get more herb seeds.

9. Come back after an hour to do the same again.

It's not the same 'take your pickaxe and swing it' method as other skills have. It's a hassle, awful mess and you really don't get anything out of it! Sheesh, if you want some cash from the herbs, why don't you just sell those seeds! You get nearly the same amount of gp and no running around involved!

66 farming here, I used to enjoy farming potatoes until I saw how slow xp it was. Then came construction and nowadays I don't even use the port phasmatys farming spot as I use the kharyll portal in my house. It's much faster than walking and farming from the Port. :-$

Exactly.

Which is what I did -.-

3M+ i spent in total from 54 to 70.

But it was worth it.

I meant 'Money drain' because I didn't gain any profit, I didn't mean it was money wasted.
